  • The International Space Station (ISS) offers research opportunities to researchers through crew's space mission in the field of remote sensing. ISS provides the facilities to place and operate experiment equipments in a variety of fields, especially, microgravity experiments and Earth observations. This paper is intended to give readers a brief introduction to the ISS utilization and the capabilities for remote sensing researches. We investigate what kind of crew missions and payloads should be developed for remote sensing researches on the ISS.

  • Future sub-meter resolution LEO missions require simultaneous dual-polarization downlink and/or multiple channel downlinks in single polarization. Especially, dual-polarization is needed to cope with bandwidth limitation due to high speed data transmission. Current KARI 13m X-Band antenna system needs to be upgraded to cope with such downlink schemes. This paper describes brief discussions on engineering work regarding how to meet the new requirements with minimum impact on current system as well as C&M (Control and Monitoring) software.

A Novel Axial Foldable Mechanism for a Segmented Primary Mirror of Space Telescope

  • Future space missions will have larger telescopes in order to look deeper into space while improvising on spatial resolution. The primary mirrors for these telescopes will be so large that using a monolithic mirror will be nearly impossible because of the difficulties associated with its fabrication, transportation, and installation on a launch vehicle. The feasibility of launching these huge mirrors is limited because of their small launch fairing diameter. The aerodynamic shape of the fairing requires a small diameter, but the height of the launch vehicle, which is available for designers to utilize, is larger than the fairing diameter. This paper presents the development of an axial deployment mechanism based on the screw jack principle. The mechanism was designed and developed, and a prototype was constructed in order to demonstrate a lab model.

  • Recent advanced interlace technologies allow the user to interact with different spaces such as Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR) and Ubiquitous Computing (UC) spaces. Here, we present a LEGO House application, a collaborative application which involves multi interaction spaces -VR, AR and UC spaces. The LEGO House application is built based on the VARU framework which is designed for enabling the prototyping of a tangible space application. The application is about an interior design. One user is located in the combined AR and UC space and interacts with the AR LEGO house and the physical smart devices. The other users interact with the virtual LEGO house but they share the same environment, the LEGO house. Therefore, they can collaborate together as they are co-located.

  • Korean cities need sustainable urban regeneration based on the effective application of space and resource. Especially a sustainable urban regeneration needs the activation of community in the urban underground space as urban development center. The purpose of this study is to propose elements and factors of spatial planning of community in urban underground space for sustainable urban regeneration and to propose the characteristics of spatial planning of community in urban underground space according to strategies of sustainable urban regeneration. The research methods of this study used to conduct research include precedent study reviews and survey. The conclusions of this study are as following; The application of various factors related to spatial planning aspect of communication, supportive cultural facilities, accessibility and nature is needed for creating a sustainable urban regeneration. Especially, in urban underground space, the application of spatial planning for community activation considered strategies of sustainable urban regeneration should be necessary. And introduction of cultural facilities, multi-dimensional pedestrian network for accessibility and natural elements for activating community in urban underground space are needed for making sustainable urban regeneration.

  • 멀티미디어 인터랙티브 광고는 컴퓨터 멀티미디어 기술의 탄생과 광범위한 연구에 더불어 활용폭이 넓은 새로운 하나의 영역을 형성하게 되었다. 본 논문은 우선 기존의 인터랙티브 미디어 광고에 관한 분석을 연구하였고, 그 다음 인터랙티브 미디어와 공공 공간에서 공익광고의 디자인에 대한 분석을 진행하였다. 공공 공간에서 인터랙티브 미디어를 응용한 공익 광고에 대한 디자인과 분석을 통해, 인터랙티브 미디어가 가진 특징을 발견하고 차후 이 특성의 장점을 활용한 작품제작을 위한 기초 연구를 진행하였다.

  • The application of software engineering is not common in the development of astronomical observation system. While there were component-wise developments in the past, large-scale comprehensive system developments are more common in these days. In this study, current methodologies of development are reviewed to select a proper one for the development of astronomical observation system and the result of the application is presented. As the subject of this study, a project of operation software development for an astronomical observation system which runs on the ground is selected. And the output management technique based on Component Based Development which is one of the relatively recent methodologies has been applied. Since the nature of the system requires lots of arithmetic algorithms and it has great impact on the overall performance of the entire system, a prototype model is developed to verify major functions and performance. Consequently, it was possible to verify the compliance with the product requirements through the requirement tracing table and also it was possible to keep to the schedule. Besides, it was suggested that a few improvements could be possible based on the experience of the application of conventional output management technique. This study is the first application of the software development methodology in the domestic astronomical observation system area. The process and results of this study would contribute to the investigation for a more appropriate methodology in the area of similar system development.

  • It is important factor; understand definition and concept, grasp application method and property about transparency for expression of skin in design of retail space.   • Laminate Design of a composite tube for a space telescope(Fig. 1) under hygrothermal load is studied. Carpet plots for laminate effective engineering constants are generated and used for selecting the best tube lay-ups satisfying the optomechanical requirements for a space telescope being dimensional1y stable under orbital thermal loading. Despace of the tubes constructed with the selected lay-ups are calculated with a Zig-Zag Triangular Element which accurately represents through thickness stress variations for laminated structures. The effects of moisture absorption when exposed to humidity environment and moisture desorption through outgassing on the dimensional stability are also investigated.

The Integration of Mobile GIS and Spatio-temporal Database for Evaluating Space-time Accessibility of an Individual: An Approach Based on Time Geography Model

  • This study attempts at building an integrated GIS computing framework for evaluating space-time accessibility of an individual with the approach of time geography model. The proposed method is based on the integration of mobile GIS and object-relational spatio-temporal database. Three components are central to our system: ( i ) mobile GIS application that transmits spatio-temporal trajectory data of an individual; ( ii ) spatio-temporal database server that incorporates the time geography model; and (iii) geovisualization client that provides time geographic queries to the spatio-temporal database. As for the mobile GIS application, spatio-temporal trajectory data collected by GPS-PDA client is automatically transmitted to the database server through mobile data management middleware. The spatio-temporal database server implemented by extending a generic DBMS provides spatio-temporal objects, functions and query languages. The geovisualization client illustrates 3D visual results of the queries about space-time path. space-time prism and space-time accessibility. This study shows a method of integrating mobile GIS and DBMS for time geography application, and presents an appropriate spatio-temporal data model for evaluating space-time accessibility of an individual.
