  • The physico-chemical factors, the distribution of chlorophyll and the primary production of the lakes Hwajinpo, Yongrangho, Chunchonho, Uiamho, Soyangho and Changjamot have been studied in order to make ecological comparison among these lakes during summer stagnation period of August to September of 1973. On the basis of the characteristics of these lakes, the lake types have been discussed. Thermocline is observed at 3-4m zone in the lake Changjamot and 4-5m zone in the lake Yongrangho. In the case of lake Hwajinpo and impoundments, the distinct thermal stratification is not observed at the summer stagnation period. As to vertical distribution of dissolved oxygen, a positive heterograde curve is obtained in the lakes Hwajinpo and Yongrangho. In the lake Changjamot the typical clinograde curve and the oxygen depletion in hypolimnion are observed. In the case of impoundments, however, the orthograde curve is observed in the lakes Chunchonho and Uiamho. While in the lake Soyangho, any stratification of the disssolved oxygen is not found. In the brackish lakes, such as lakes Hwajinpo and Yongragho, the salinity of hypolimnion is found to be much higher than that of epilimnion. In the lake Hwajinpo, the salinity of hypolimnion is exhibited 32.7$\textperthousand$, which is nearly the same as sea water. The distribution of nitrogenous compounds and phosphates is found to be high in the lake Changjmot. The silicate is also found in high concentration in the lake Chunchonho, and the distribution of nutrients in the brackish lakes is generally low. As to the vertical distribution of chlorophyll level, the lake Changjamot shows a stratum type and the brackish lakes L-type stratification. In the impoundments, lakes Chunchonho and Uiamho appear to be homogeneous type. Seasonal variation of chlorophyll level in the lake Changjamot is examined from January to September 1973. The vertical distribution of chlorophyll during the period of circulation from January to April is homogeneous type and is stratum type thereafter. The maximum chlorophyll level is 277.4mg/$m^2$ on June 23 and the pattern of seasonal variation of chlorophyll level is comparable to the type of eutrophy. The horizontal distribution of chlorophyll level is studied in the brackish lakes, Hwajinpo and Yongrangho. The pattern of distribution is found to be an irregular type. On the basis of measurements of primary production by means of the carbon-14 method and the distribution of chlorophyll level, it is concluded that the interior part of the lake Hwajinpo and Changjamot are eutrophic and the exterior part of the lake Hwajinpo, lake Yongrangho and the impoundments, lake Uiambo and Soyangho are mesotrophic.

  • Many Koreans usually eat raw pond smelts, Hypomesus olidus, in the winter. This study was performed to evaluate the infection status with trematode metacercariae in pond smelts from January 1998 through February 1999. Among 1,305 fish collected, 459 were purchased from wholesale dealers in Chinchon-gun, Chungchongbuk-do, and the rest of them were caught with a casting net in Soyangho (Lake), Taehoman (Bay) and Paekkokchosuchi(Pond). Seven species of trematode metacercariae including two unidentified ones were detected from 1,305 pond smelts. The number of detected trematode metacercariae according to the species are as follow: Clonorchis sinensis 8, Holostephanus nipponicus 7, Cyathocotvle orientalis 24, DipLostomum sp. 14, and Metorchis orientalis 7. From the above results, it was confirmed that H. olidus plays a role as the second intermediate host of some kinds of trematode including C. sinensis in Korea. Our report shows possible clonorchiasis caused by eating raw pond smelts.

  • This study inquired into changes of turbidity of a river depending on the rainfall characteristics of each month through investigating the water quantity and turbidity of Jawoonchun drainage basin in the upper reaches of Soyangho (lake) for the year of 2005. It could be seen from the study that high turbidity occurred during the period from May to August due to rainfall intensity and rainfall duration. On the other hand, it could be confirmed that turbidity was constantly low after September because of early cleansing effect of rainfall. Next, the influence of controlling factors of turbidity was looked into. For May and June, it was 89% rainfall intensity among the controlling factors, for July and August, it was 67% rainfall intensity and 32% rainfall duration that was confirmed to have influence over the occurrence of turbidity. In addition, regression analysis was carried out about the controlling factors that had influence over the occurrence of turbidity and regression equation was suggested.

  • This study is to estimate the circuity factors which can be used to assess for public facilities accessibility and analyze traffic in the area. We set the range of the administrative districts by Si Gun Gu unit and Eup Myeon Dong unit (more subdivided unit than Si Gun Gu unit). The average circuity factor in Si Gun Gu unit is 1.364 (maximum 2.953 and minimum 1.711). The region indicated the highest value of circuity factor is wando-gun in jeollanam-do, which area consists of 4 island and is connected to the bridges. Having to use the bridges for using public facilities hinders its accessibility. In the case of Eup Myeon Dong unit, the average circuity factor is 1.353 (maximum 2.950 and minimum 1.154). The region indicated the highest value of circuity factor is buksan-myeon in chuncheon-si, Gangwon-do. This region also has to use bridges for using public facilities because there is the largest lake, called Soyangho. This circuity factor is used to analyze the location of public facilities and assess vulnerability of accessibility. And also the factor can be applied to some policies, such as rural public service planning based on spatial big data.

  • Seasonal variation in the composition and fatty acid, amino acid, cholesterol, and vitamin contents in the muscles of the mandarin fish Siniperca scherzeri, caught in Soyangho Lake, Korea, was studied. The moisture content was 74.5-78.7 g/100 g, lipids ranged between 1.06 and 4.23 g/100 g, protein between 18.5-20.7 g/100 g, and ash between 0.74 and 2.04 g/100 g. The moisture content was lowest in May and tended to increase from June to October. The highest protein levels occurred in May, which coincided with the timing of oocyte maturation, and then decreased at the beginning of spawning. The highest lipid levels occurred in May and November coinciding with the periods before spawning and hibernation. The ratio of EAA/NEAA was higher than the value recommended by FAO for an 'ideal' food protein. There were significant differences in Mg and Fe contents with spawning; they were highest in May. Contents of vitamin A and E were from not detected (ND) to $17.1{\mu}g/100g$ and ND to 0.69 mg/100 g, respectively and were highest in November. The content of niacin tended to decrease in June and increased until November and hibernation. The cholesterol content was 14.9-78.9 mg/100 g; it decreased from March to July and then increased until November. In conclusion, there is potential for expanding the commercial utilization of the mandarin fish as a food resource.

  • Due to muddy water from the highland fields upstream of Soyangho Lake, the Mandae, Gaa, and Jawoon have been redesignated as NPS management areas. This study aims to evaluate the adequacy and supplementation points of the implementation plan by analyzing the operation status of muddy water generation and reduction facilities through on-site investigations by NPS management area to achieve the effective nonpoint pollution reduction goal in the implementation of the implementation plan established in 2020. The SS load calculated based on the survey results from July to October 2019 from 2017 showed a decreasen in 2019 compared to 2017. Both and the Jawoon were analyzed to have decreased. However, the amount of precipitation also decreased by about 27%, so it was judged that the effect of the reduction project was not significant. As a result of the detailed investigation of abatement facilities, about 86% of the 793 facilities installed in the management area were evaluated as 'good'. As a result of a detailed investigation by subwatersheds, subwatersheds 105 and 106 in the Mandae were analyzed as apprehensive subwatersheds. appeared to fall. In addition, it was analyzed that the effect of reducing muddy water in the Mandae district was insufficient due to the high ratio of leased farmers, lack of efforts to reduce turbid water in leased farmland, conversion to annual crops, and neglect of bare land. In the case of Gaa district, although the abatement facilities are concentrated in the upstream, muddy water was also found to be severe.
