A bothid specimen (65.8 mm SL) collected from southern coastal waters of Tongyeong, Gyeongsangnam-do, is identified as Engyprosopon grandisquama. The specimen represents a new Korean record for the species. It is characterized by the presence of 6 gill rakers on the lower limb of the first arch, caudal fin with a pair of large jet-black blotches between the 3rd and 4th rays counted from the upper and lower margins, and body depth more than 50% of body length. A new Korean name "keun-bi-neul-neop-chi-sok" and "keun-bi-neul-neop-chi" is proposed for the genus and species, respectively.
Two specimens of Chelon macrolepis were collected from southern coastal waters of Jeju Island and Busan in February 2007 and October 2010, and it, herein, described as an unrecorded species from Korea. Chelon macrolepis is characterized by posterior tip of maxilla exposed when mouth closed, having 31~32 lateral line scales, and 23~24 vertebrae. The new Korean name is proposed as "Keun-bi-neul-sung-eo" for Chelon macrolepis.
The pearl-spot damsel, Chromis notata, is one of the important fishery species in Korea. While C. notata has been commonly harvested in southern Korea, the increasing number of C. notata in higher latitudes has crucial ecological, economic and evolutionary implications under conditions where the climate is rapidly changing. Here we examined the morphological and genetic characteristics of C. notata to assess patterns of geographical variations among the groups from three different sites. The groups were clearly distinguishable in the analysis of morphological characteristics. On the other hand, the groups were genetically indistinguishable. All individuals fell within a single clade in the neighbor-joining tree but appeared scattered in the haplotype network. Several haplotypes are shared among the sampling sites (Jejudo-Ulleungdo; Hap 9, Wangdolcho-Ulleungdo; Hap 28, Hap 33, Hap 34). Although control region markers did not elucidate the spatial patterns in genetic characteristics, Wangdolcho and Ulleungdo groups appear to exhibit a more robust gene flow between the two groups than with Jejudo group. Integrative approaches such as those combining morphological and genetic analyses minimize potential errors caused by limited perspectives of each analysis and can provide useful information for discovering functional DNA regions attributable to morphological characteristics expressions.
Ciliate plankton samples were collected biweekly from July 2006 to June 2008 in Jangmok Bay of Geoje Island. Species composition and abundances were analyzed by quantitative protargol stain and environmental parameters were also examined. A total of 88 ciliate species occurred during the study period, consisting of 22 tintinnids, 51 oligotrichs, and 15 other species. Higher ciliate abundances appeared from June to October during the warm season ($<20^{\circ}C$) and the maximum ($4.0{\times}10^4\;cells\;L^1$) in August, while the lower abundances were found during the cold season. The minimun ciliate abundance was found in November when water temperature rapidly decreased. The temporal succession of dominant species was very clear and opportunistic. Pelagostrombidium sp., Tontonia simplicidens, Helicostomella subulata, and Myrionecta rubra were co-dominant in summer while Rimostrombidium orientale occurred abundantly in winter. Strombidium tressum and S. compressum, eurythermal species, were observed during all seasons. Based on the species-specific ecology of ciliate plankton, it is suggested that the indicative ciliate species can be applied as a biological tool to detect environmental change in the southern coastal waters of korea.
Based on a single specimen (207.0 mm SL) collected from the southern coastal waters of Jejudo Island, morphological characteristics of Antennarius commerson were described as the first reliable record from Korea. The species is characterized by having a globose body covered with small bifurcated spinules, three dorsal spines including a naked illicium and attached pectoral lobe, 13 dorsal fin soft rays, 8 anal fin rays, and 11 pectoral fin rays. We adopted a tentative Korean name previously suggested, "Keun-ssin-being-i", for the species.

The distribution and abundance of fish in the Cheju southeastern area was studied by the combined hydroacoustic and bottom trawl surveys in April 1994 and in July 1995, respectively. The main purpose of these investigations was to provide the basic data for this management and the biomass estimation of commercially important demersal fish stocks in this area. The hydroacoustic surveys were performed by using a 50 kHz scientific echo sounder system with a microcomputer-based echo integrator. Acoustical measurements of fish abundance and distribution were conducted along the cruise tracks of research vessel and during all trawl hauls by continuous echo sounding. The average weight-normalized target strength for demersal fish aggregations was derived from the relationship between the mean volume backscattering strength for the depth strata of trawl hauls and the weight per cubic meter of trawl catches. The geographical distribution of fish stocks in the 1994 survey area was investigated in relation to oceanographic conditions. The results obtained can be summarized as follows: 1. From the 1994 and 1995 survey data, the relationship between the mean volume backscattering strength (, dB) for the depth strata of trawl hauls and the weight (W, kg/$m^3$) per cubic meter of trawl catches was expressed by the following equation = - 32.8+ lOlog(W) The average weighted-target strength value at 50 kHz derived from this equation was .. 32.8 dB/kg. 2. In 1994 and 1995, both surveys showed a trend of decreasing fish abundance toward the southern area of the Cheju Island with high densities offish along the west coast ofth.e Tsushima Island. The highest demersal concentrations in the southern area of the CheJu Island appeared in bottom waters colder than $12^{\circ}C.$. . 3. From the results of combined bottom trawl and hydroacoustic surveys, the estunated fish densities in the southeastern area of the Cheju Island were 1.5488 x $10^-4$kg/$m^3$ in the 1994 surveyand 1.9498 x $10^-4$kg/$m^3$ in the 1995 survey, respectively.
To understand the geochemical characteristics of intertidal sediment in a semi-enclosed bay, we measured various geochemical parameters, including grain size, ignition loss (IL), chemical oxygen demand (COD), acid volatile sulfide (AVS), and trace metals (Al, Fe, Cu, Pb, Zn, Cd, Hg, and As), in intertidal sediment from three bays (Deukryang Bay, Yeoja Bay, and Gamak Bay) in the southern region of Jeollanam Province. The intertidal sediment in Deukryang Bay consisted of various sedimentary types, such as sand, gravelly muddy sand, mud, and silt, whereas the intertidal sediments in Yeoja and Gamak Bays were composed mainly of mud. The concentrations of IL, COD, AVS and trace metals in the intertidal sediments of the three study regions were relatively high near areas affected by input of stream waters and/or shellfish farming waste. The concentrations of organic matter and trace metals in Gamak Bay were much higher than those in Deukryang and Yeoja Bays, which appears to be due to the influence of anthropogenic pollutants, originating from the city and the industrial complex near Gamak Bay. The evaluation results of organic matter and metal pollution using the sediment quality guidelines showed that the intertidal sediments in the three study regions were not polluted in terms of organic matter and trace metals. In future, sustainable management for sources of organic matter and trace metal is necessary to conserve a healthy benthic ecosystem in intertidal sediments.

Eighteen specimens of juvenile Mugilidae were collected in October 2012 from the southern coastal waters of Jeju Island, and identified based on analysis of their mitochondrial DNA16S rRNA sequences. Seventeen specimens of Oedalechilus labiosus and a single specimen of Ellochelon vaigiensis were found, constituting a new record for these species among Korean ichthyofauna. O. labiosus is identified by the angle at the posterior end of its mouth, which contains a round notch, a darkish dorsal margin of the pectoral fin, the presence of 33-36 lateral line scales, and 23-24 vertebrae. E. vaigiensis is identified by dark dorsal and pectoral fins, the presence of 26 lateral line scales, and 25 vertebrae. The proposed Korean name for Oedalechilus is 'Sol-ip-sung-eo-sok' and that for Ellochelon is 'Nup-jeok-ggo-ri-sung-eo-sok'. The proposed Korean names for the species are 'Sol-ip-sung-eo' and 'Nup-jeok-ggo-ri-sung-eo' for O. labiosus and E. vaigiensis, respectively. We present a key for identification of the Mugilidae family of species from Korea, and include these two newly recorded species.
A single leptocephalus specimen of Albula glossodonta belonging to the family Albulidae under the order Albuliformes, was collected from the southern sea of Korea in May 21, 2019. This species is distinguished from A. vulpes in the number of melanophores at the base of the caudal fin. In addition, our specimen was readily distinguished from A. argentea in having no melanophores on the operculum, at the base of the dorsal fin and in front of the pectoral fin. Also it was well distinguished from A. gilberti in having no melanophores on the operculum, in front of the pectoral fin and on the lateral body. A molecular analysis based on 467 bp sequences of the mitochondrial DNA 16S rRNA shows that the leptocephalus is well matched to A. glossodonta adult (K2P distance=0.002). We report the first occurrence of A. glossodonta leptocephalus in the Korean waters, and propose it's new Korean name, "Nam-bang-yeoeul-myeol".

The main ports of Korean south sea are exposed to intensive danger as 58.1% of total vessel in Korea waters and 62.9% of total dangerous cargo ships. Therefore, it is required to establish fundamental database to solve numerous issues at the main ports cf the south sea as studying amount of the vessel traffic and their flows into the main ports, and evaluating degree of danger by traffics environmental stress model as analyzing relationships among degree of danger, maritime accident, and number of vessel arriving or departing in the main ports.
