  • This paper presents a fault location algorithm based on the adaptively estimated value of the local sequence source impedance for faults on a parallel transmission line. This algorithm uses only the local voltage and current signals of a faulted circuit. The remote current signals and the zero-sequence current of the healthy adjacent circuit are calculated by using the current distribution factors together with the local terminal currents of the faulted circuit. The current distribution factors consist of local equivalent source impedance and the others such as fault distance, line impedance and remote equivalent source impedance. It means that the values of the current distribution factors can change according to the operation condition of a power system. Consequently, the accuracy of the fault location algorithm is affected by the two values of equivalent source impedances, one is local source impedance and the other is remote source impedance. Nevertheless, only the local equivalent impedance can be estimated in this paper. A series of test results using EMTP simulation data show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm. The proposed algorithm is valid for a double-circuit transmission line system where the equivalent source impedance changes continuously.

  • The realization and the performance of ICP source are strongly affected by its electrical impedance and the electric/magnetic field distribution. The ICP source impedance is determined by the antenna impedance and the plasma one. It is preferred to keep the imaginary impedance between -100 ohm to 100 ohm, since it should be avoided the high voltage formation on the antenna and abrupt impedance variation during the thin film process. The plasma uniformity is affected by the electric and magnetic field which is formed by the antenna current and voltage. The influence of azimuthal symmetry are shown by the electromagnetic simulation and the measurement result of plasma density. The radial uniformity can be controlled by locating the concentric antennas which have different diameters. The power distribution ratio and its control method are presented in the case of parallel antenna connections.

  • In this work we develop an equivalent circuit model of TCP(transformer coupled plasma) source and investigate matching characteristic. The developed circuit model includes transmission line, standard-type impedance matching network and displacement current in the plasma source. The impedance of TCP is calculated by previously developed program for various source parameters and dependance of components of matching impedance on the value of source impedance is investigated.

  • An Electrical equipment is the noise source which makes a noise. So the optimally designed filter should be inserted in the equipment in order to reduce the noise. The noise source impedance is varied according to the frequency It effects on the CE noise. Knowing the magnitude of its impedance and inserting an EMI filter in the equipment we can estimate the insertion loss of the filter. SO it helpful in designing the EMI filter. The measurement method of a noise source impedance is proposed and verified by experiment.

  • In RF plasma processing, when the plasma is generated, there is the difference of impedance between RF generator and plasma source. Its difference is normally reduced by using the matcher and the RF power is transferred efficiently from the power generator to the plasma source. The generated plasma has source impedance that it can be changed during processing by pressure, frequency, density and so on. If the range of source impedance excesses the matching range of the matcher, it cannot match all value of the impedance. In this research, we studied the elevation mechanism of the RF power delivery efficiency between RF generator to the plasma source by using the transmission line and impedance tuning of the plasma source. We focus on two plasma sources (capacitive coupled plasma (CCP), inductive coupled plasma (ICP)) which is most widely used in industry recently.

  • This paper describes extended fault location algorithm using estimated remote source impedance. The method uses data only at the local end and the sequence current distribution factors for more accurate estimation. The proposed algorithm can respond to variation of the local and remote source impedance. Therefore, this method is especially useful for transmission lines interconnected to a wind farm that the source impedance varies continuously. The proposed algorithm is very insensitive to the variation in fault distance and fault resistance. The simulation results have shown the accuracy and effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • A fault location algorithm using estimated local source impedance after a fault is proposed in this paper. The method uses after fault data only at the local end. It uses the negative sequence current distribution factor for more accurate estimation. The proposed algorithm can keep up with the variation of the local source impedance. Therefore, the proposed algorithm especially is valid for a transmission line interconnected to a wind farm that the equivalent source impedance changes continuously. The performance of the proposed algorithm was verified under various fault conditions using the Simpowersystem of MATLAB Simulink. The proposed algorithm is largely insensitive to the variation in fault distance and fault resistance. The test results show a very high accurate performance.

  • The linearity of the GaAs FET power amplifier(PA) is greatly influenced by source and load impedance for the FETs. The third order intermodulation products, IM3, from the GaAs FET PA are investigated in relation with source and load impedance. From heuristic as well as analytic point of view, e.g., Volterra series analysis, is employed to analyze the effects of nonlinear circuit elements, gate-source capacitance, $C_{gs}$, and drain-source current, $I_{ds}$. The sweet spots where soure and load impedance produce the least intermodulation products are calculated and compared with the load and source pull data with good agreements. It also shows that source impedance has a greater effect on the intermodulation products than the load impedcnce.

  • This paper studies the instability between homopolar generator and constant power load with negative impedance characteristics, provides the design method of homopolar generator system which overcomes the instability. In case of magnitude and phase of impedance of source and load mismatch, control instability of source can occur. For the safety of phase of load impedance, the gain of P, I controller with sufficient phase margin is applied through analysis on the simulation model of generator system, and the gain limit of load impedance is ensured by limitation of the gain margin of generator system. The stability of power system can be increased by considering and analyzing the impedance of source and load.

  • A wireless power transfer (WPT) system is generally designed with the optimum source and load impedance in order to achieve the maximum power transfer efficiency (PTE) at a specific coupling coefficient. Empirically or intuitively, however, it is well known that a high PTE can be attained by adjusting either the source or load impedance. In this paper, we estimate the maximum achievable PTE of WPT systems with the given load impedance, and propose the condition of source impedance for the maximum PTE. This condition can be reciprocally applied to the load impedance of a WPT system with the given source impedance. First, we review the transducer power gain of a two-port network as the PTE of the WPT system. Next, we derive two candidate conditions, the critical coupling and the optimum conditions, from the transducer power gain. Finally, we compare the two conditions carefully, and the results therefore indicate that the optimum condition is more suitable for a highly efficient WPT system with a given load impedance.
