Estimation of primary production of the waters around rack oyster farm at Wando, Korea

  • To establish a comprehensive management strategy, as part of the optimization of cultural practice for an oyster rack culture system, we used a numerical model to estimate the primary production in the waters on the eastern coast of Wando island, South Korea. The estimated primary production ranged from 17.12 to $1052.55mgC\;m^{-2}day^{-1}$ ($204.22{\pm}224.75mgC\;m^{-2}day^{-1}$ in average). Except for the times of peak phytoplankton blooms, the estimated primary production (PP) was consistently under $200mgC\;m^{-2}day^{-1}$, which is more similar to the value of PP measured off the western coast of South Korea than the southern coast. No clear relationship was observed between nitrogen content and rainfall with the exception of heavy rainfall events, indicating that precipitation might not be the main source of nutrients in these waters. No clear influence was observed from Doam tidal discharge, located 24 km north from these waters due to main tide comes in this area from the channel between Gunwe-myeon in Wando island and Pukpyeong-myeon in Haenam-gun. Because of the shallow water depth and strong tidal current, resuspension of sediments, which causes an input of nitrogen into the system, could be easily caused by even mild wind and the infrequent passing of ships. Microscopic examination of the phytoplankton composition showed additional contribution of benthic species such as Paralia sulcata into the waters, which increase the productivity of oyster farms in the waters. The availability of nitrate and phosphate for primary production was temporarily limited throughout most of the spring and autumn blooming season.

  • Non-point pollutants, which mainly originate from high traffic roads and rural areas, contaminate the environment by flowing into various rivers and lakes and thus are of interest as an environmental issue. Accordingly, efforts have been made to design and maintain efficient filter systems for the control of the non-point pollutants. Meanwhile, clay-type materials are widely used for the absorption of chemicals included in pollutants and the absorption performances of various clays have been reported in the literature. Thus, the present study proposes a non-destructive monitoring method for the performance of a clay-type filter using electrical resistivity measurement. A series of experimental tests is performed on celite-based particulate filters with infiltrating non-point source pollutants having the same characteristics as pollutants on high traffic roads. Each test measures permeability, resistivity of the filter materials and resistivity of the filtrated water. As the particulate filter materials filtrate pollutants and absorb heavy chemicals (e.g., $Cr^{6+}$, lead, nickel, among others), ionic concentration increases resulting as the electrical resistivity decrease. When the filter systems approach the end of their lifetime, the electrical resistivity of the filter material converges to a very low value due to lowered filter absorption efficiency. Hence, the electrical resistivity of the filtrated water also converges to a low value due to high concentrations of heavy metals. The permeability converges to a very low value because of significantly reduced porosity due to clogging and absorption of pollutants on the filter material. The experimental results show that electrical resistivity monitoring of filter materials is a promising approach to estimation of filter performance and its life expectancy.

PRELIMINARY ESTIMATION OF ACTIVATED CORROSION PRODUCTS IN THE COOLANT SYSTEM OF FUSION DEMO REACTOR

  • The second phase of the national program for fusion energy development in Korea starts from 2012 for design and construction of the fusion DEMO reactor. Radiological assessment for the fusion reactor is one of the key tasks to assure its licensability and the starting point of the assessment is determination of the source terms. As the first effort, the activities of the coolant due to activated corrosion product (ACP) were estimated. Data and experiences from fission reactors were used, in part, in the calculations of the ACP concentrations because of lack of operating experience for fusion reactors. The MCNPX code was used to determine neutron spectra and intensities at the coolant locations and the FISPACT code was used to estimate the ACP activities in the coolant of the fusion DEMO reactor. The calculated specific activities of the most nuclides in the fusion DEMO reactor coolant were 2-15 times lower than those in the PWR coolant, but the specific activities of $^{57}Co$ and $^{57}Ni$ were expected to be much higher than in the PWR coolant. The preliminary results of this study can be used to figure out the approximate radiological conditions and to establish a tentative set of radiological design criteria for the systems carrying coolant in the design phase of the fusion DEMO reactor.

빔조향 및 전파도래각 추정을 위한 새로운 다중입력 다중출력 안테나 송수신부 구성방법 (A Novel Equalization Method of Multiple Transceivers of Multiple Input Multiple Output Antenna for Beam-farming and the Estimation of Direction of Arrival)

  • 본 논문에서는 최근 IMT-2000 시스템에서 고속데이타 통신을 수용하기 위해 연구되고 있는 다중입력다중 출력(Multiple Input Multiple Output) 안테나를 이용한 공간분할기법을 현실화하기 위한 새로운 등화된 RF 수신부 구성방법을 제안하였다. 제안된 방법의 핵심은 보정시간 동안 궤환회로 및 기억회로를 통해 보정시간중 등화된 다수의 RF 수신부 구성방법에 있으며, 이를 이용할 경우 중간주파 영역에서 weighting 하는 것이 가능하게된다 이는 기존에 연구된 전파노래 각 알고리듬을 사용 가입자 분포에 따라 안테나 빔 형성하는 것을 가능케 하며, 공간분할에 의한 최적 셀 형성을 가능하게 학 것이다. 또한 제시된 RF 전단부의 동작을 확인하기 위하여 Envelope Simulation을 사용 이의 동작을 검증하였다.

실측 경사장 및 경사도를 고려한 양구 해안면 유역의 유사량 평가 (Evaluation of Sediment Yield using Area-weighted Measured Slope and Slope Length at HeaAn Myeon Watershed)

  • In this study, area-weighted slope and slope length module, considering measured field slope and slope length of the agricultural fields within the subwatershed, was developed using the ArcView Avenue programming to reflect the field topography of the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) HRU in simulating the hydrology and water quality. Flow and sediment yield estimated values of the SWAT were compared with and without applying area-weighted slope and slope length module, developed in this study. There was 103% increases in estimated sediment with area-weighted slope and slope length module for the study watershed. The soil erosion and sediment yield from only agricultural field in Hae-an watershed was also assessed. There are 111% increase in estimated soil erosion and 112% increase in estimated sediment by applying area-weighted slope and slope length module. This study shows that the area-weighted slope and slope length module needs to be utilized in estimating the HRU field slope and slope length for accurate estimation of soil erosion and nonponit source pollutant modeling with the SWAT although it is not feasible to measure topographic information for every agricultural fields within the watershed. The area-weighted slope and slope length module can be used in identifying soil erosion hot spot areas for developing cost effective and efficient soil erosion management practices.

비백색 잡음 환경에서 정합필터 성능개선을 위한 백색화 기법 (Whitening Method for Performance Improvement of the Matched Filter in the Non-white Noise Environment)

  • 비백색잡음(non-white noise)인 잔향(reverberation)이 신호탐지(signal detection)의 주 방해신호인 천해 능동소나(active sonar) 환경에서의 표적탐지는 선백색화기(pre-whitener)를 사용하여 수신신호를 백색화한 후 백색잡음에서 최적 탐지기(optimum detector)인 정합필터를 사용한다. 그러나 이 방법은 잔향이 비정상(non-stationary) 특성을 가지기 때문에 구현이 매우 힘들다. 기존의 연구에 따르면 이러한 잔향은 지역적 정상상태(local stationary).라고 가정할 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 먼저 잔향신호의 지역적 정상상태의 범위를 추정(estimation)하고, 이 추정을 바탕으로 비백색 잔향신호 환경에서 선백색화 블록 정규화 정합필터(pre-whitening block normalized matched filter)의 성능을 개선할 수 있는 선백색화 기법을 제안하였다. 제안된 잔향신호의 백색화 기법은 표적신호 전 후의 잔향신호를 사용하여 처리블록(processing block)을 백색화하기 때문에 기존의 백색화 기법보다 우수한 성능을 보였다. 제안된 백색화 기법을 이용한 탐지기의 성능을 평가하기 위해 우리나라 인근해역에서 실측된 데이터를 이용하여 컴퓨터 모의실험을 수행하였다. 모의실험 결과 제안된 기법을 사용한 탐지기는 기존의 백색화 기법을 사용한 탐지기보다 우수한 탐지선응을 보였다.

처트-백운석 반응에 의한 석면상 투각섬석의 생성과 형태적 특성 (Asbestiform Tremolite Formed by Chert-Dolomite Reaction and Its Morphological Characteristics)

  • 제천시 수산면의 고생대 백운암에는 속성기원 흑색 처트 단괴들이 함유되어 있으며, 흑운모 화강암 관입과 관련된 접촉변성작용으로 백운석과 처트가 반응하여 단괴 주위로 변질대가 형성되었다. 변질 초기에 활석 및 방해석이 처트와 백운암을 교대하며 생성되었지만, 후기에 투각섬석이 활석과 방해석을 교대하였다. 처트 단괴들이 밀집한 백운암 층준에서는 회백색 투각섬석이 다량으로 산출된다. 주사전자현미경 및 광학현미경 관찰결과, 투각섬석은 다양한 종횡비의 신장된 입자 형태를 보이며, 수 mm의 좁은 공간에서 같이 산출된다. 침상-섬유상 입자들이 다발을 이루는 석면상 투각섬석도 있으나, 주상 입자들도 흔히 존재함이 확인되었다. 따라서 자연 유래 석면물질의 경우, 모든 투각섬석이 석면상 투각섬석은 아니므로 석면 정량 시 유의해야 한다. 수산 지역에서 석면상 각섬석의 산출 환경은 함처트 백운암, 열원, 수용성 유체의 존재가 투각섬석 석면의 지질학적 생성 조건이 될 수 있음을 지시한다.

블랙숄즈모형을 적용한 태양광 핵심소재 기술가치평가: 기업사례를 중심으로 (Valuation on the Photovoltaic Core Material Technology Using Black-Scholes Model: a Company's Case Study)

  • 본 논문은 차세대 그린에너지원으로 주목받고 있는 태양광산업의 핵심소재 기술에 대한 가치를 실물 옵션 기법을 이용하여 추정한다. 본 논문의 기여는 두 가지이다. 하나는 방법론적인 기여로서, 실물옵션의 기초자산 불확실성을 대변하는 변수로서 주가를 고려하여 실물옵션 적용에서 가장 복잡한 단계인 기초자산 불확실성의 모형과정을 대폭 단순화시켰다. 다른 하나는 응용장의 기여로서, 최근 수요가 크게 증가하고 있는 태양광산업의 핵심소재인 폴리실리콘의 생산공정 기술의 경제적 가치를 평가하였다. 분석사례인 폴리실리콘 산업의 A기업에 적용한 결과, 동 기업의 폴리실리콘 기술의 기초자산이 기하브라운모션을 따르는 것으로 나타났으며 이러한 결과에 블랙-숄즈 옵션가격결정모형을 적용하여 A기업의 폴리실리콘 기술에 대한 콜옵션의 가치는 약 34,229억원으로 측정되었다.

Auto-detection of Halo CME Parameters as the Initial Condition of Solar Wind Propagation

  • Halo coronal mass ejections (CMEs) originating from solar activities give rise to geomagnetic storms when they reach the Earth. Variations in the geomagnetic field during a geomagnetic storm can damage satellites, communication systems, electrical power grids, and power systems, and induce currents. Therefore, automated techniques for detecting and analyzing halo CMEs have been eliciting increasing attention for the monitoring and prediction of the space weather environment. In this study, we developed an algorithm to sense and detect halo CMEs using large angle and spectrometric coronagraph (LASCO) C3 coronagraph images from the solar and heliospheric observatory (SOHO) satellite. In addition, we developed an image processing technique to derive the morphological and dynamical characteristics of halo CMEs, namely, the source location, width, actual CME speed, and arrival time at a 21.5 solar radius. The proposed halo CME automatic analysis model was validated using a model of the past three halo CME events. As a result, a solar event that occurred at 03:38 UT on Mar. 23, 2014 was predicted to arrive at Earth at 23:00 UT on Mar. 25, whereas the actual arrival time was at 04:30 UT on Mar. 26, which is a difference of 5 hr and 30 min. In addition, a solar event that occurred at 12:55 UT on Apr. 18, 2014 was estimated to arrive at Earth at 16:00 UT on Apr. 20, which is 4 hr ahead of the actual arrival time of 20:00 UT on the same day. However, the estimation error was reduced significantly compared to the ENLIL model. As a further study, the model will be applied to many more events for validation and testing, and after such tests are completed, on-line service will be provided at the Korean Space Weather Center to detect halo CMEs and derive the model parameters.

부산시 어촌·어항개발에 대한 의식 분석 (The Analysis of Understanding of the Uevelopment of Fishing Villages and Fishing Ports in Busan)

  • Ocean resources have a very important role to meet the requirements of the people's leisure activities in a limited country, so fishing villages and fishing ports are getting more and more important as a source of supply to satisfy the demands as time goes on. There are various and far-reaching approaches to the fishing villages and fishing ports. However, studies to present the over-all direction of development policy for fishing villages and fishing ports have been short; especially the studies which have been dealing with Busan were verified to be very short relatively. As a result of survey, both officials in charge and residents in fishing villages have an enough understanding of what problems the development of fishing villages have and it's direction of development and spreading effects. In the part of the policy of developing fishing ports, officials answered that insufficient synthetic estimation was main problem in developing the fishing ports, while residents had a high recognition that local fishing ports and small scale fishing ports have had poor progress relatively. In the analysis of difference between two group about the spreading effects of developing fishing villages and fishing ports, they had affirmative opinions rather than negative ones without exemption. As mentioned above, it is a right direction to develop the existing fishing ports as well as new fishing ones to the multi-functional synthetic fishing ports. The specialized development should be made so that the special quality of coastal resources, which fishing villages have, will be made the best use of.
