KARI is currently developing a geostationary ocean color imager (GOCI) for COMS. We report the progress in integrated optical modeling and analysis for stray light suppression and the end-to-end instrument performance verification including in-orbit calibration. The Sun is modeled as the emitting light source and the selected area around Korean peninsular as the observation target that scatters the sun light towards GOCI in orbit. The optical ray tracing employing active geometric scaling was then used for precise characterization of the spatial and radiometric performance at the instrument focal plane. The analysis results show positive reduction in the simulated stray light level with the design improvement including baffles. It also indicates that the ray traced in-orbit radiometric performances are effective tools for the independent assessment of more traditional linear and quadratic equation based estimation of water leaving radiance. The concept of integrated GOCI optical model and the computational method are presented.
Digital topographic map in Korea contains layers of spatial and attribute data for 8 land features such as railroads, watercourses, roads, buildings and etc. Some of the layers such as building and forest don't include any information about height, which can be just prepared by interpretation of remote sensed data or field survey. LiDAR(Light Detection And Ranging) data using active pulse and digital camera provides data about height and form of land features. LiDAR data can be used not only to extract the outline of land features but also to estimate the height. This study presents technical availability for extraction and estimation of land feature's outline and height using LiDAR data which composes of natural and artificial land features, and digital aerial photograph which was taken simultaneously with the LiDAR. The estimated location, outline and height of land features were compared with the field survey data, and we could find that LiDAR data and digital aerial photograph can be a useful source for estimating the height of land features as well as extracting the outline.

Estimating condition of slope is difficult because of nonlinear time dependency and seasonal effects, which affect the displacements. Displacements and displacement patterns of landslides are highly variable in time and space, and a unique approach cannot be defined to model landslide movements. Characteristics of movements are obtained by using a statistical method called Principal Component Analysis(PCA). The PCA is a non-parametric method to separate unknown, statistically uncorrelated source processes from observed mixed processes. In the non-parametric approaches, no physical assumptions of target systems are required. Instead, since the "best" mathematical relationship is estimated for given data sets of the input and output measured from target systems. As a consequence, non-parametric approaches are advantageous in modeling systems whose geomechanical properties are unknown or difficult to be measured. Non-parametric approaches are consequently more flexible in modeling than parametric approaches. This method is expected to be a useful tool for the slope management of and alarm systems.
The aim of this study were to assess the personal exposure to volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and to estimate the personal exposure using time-weighted average model. Three target VOCs (benzene, toluene, xylene) were analyzed in personal exposure samples and residential indoor, residential outdoor and workplace indoor microenvironments samples in the iron mill 30 workers during working 5 days. Personal exposure to VOCs significantly correlated with workplace concentration p<0.05), suggesting workplace had strong source and major contribution to personal exposure. Personal exposure could be estimated with time activity pattern and time weighted average (TWA) model of residential indoor and workplace concentrations measured. Time weighted mean microenvironments concentrations were close approximately of personal exposure concentrations. Total exposure for participants can be estimated by TWA with microenvironments measurements and time activity pattern.
Flow divider valve, a kind of hydraulic control valve to divide the flow from one input line to two output line uniformly, should be able to keep the constant flow to output lines despite of the change load or supply pressure. Having 5-10% flow diving error in commercial hydraulic products is one of main source of the accumulated error caused hydraulic system problem and demands the development of flow divider valve to control flow more accurately, In this paper, the dynamic characteristics of flow divider valve are investigated by the numerical estimation of the spool motion considered the external supply force. The optimum design of flow divider valve are proposed to reduce the flow diving error. For the dynamic characteristics analysis, the change of sectional area of fixed and variable orifice, and spool are studied when the input signal is accepted to a constant load.
This April 5th dam and Hwanggang dam, which are located in Imjin river, North Korea, become the main causes of water shortages and damages in Imjin river downstream. April 5th dam is assumed a small or medium-sized dam, its total storage volume reaches about 88 million $m^3$. And Hwanggang dam, multi-purposed dam of total storage volume approximately 0.3 billion $m^3$ to 0.4 billion $m^3$ is used as source of residental or industrial water in Gaeseong Industrial Complex. North Korea, which has April 5th dam and Hwanggang dam in Imjin river, manages water of approximately 0.39 billion $m^3$ to 0.49 billion $m^3$ directly. As water is storaged or discharged through dam, it causes a severe damage to areas in Yeoncheon-gun and Paju city, South Korea. Therefore, this study intends to analyze and estimate runoff through dam construction by using hydrological observation data and artificial data such as service water supply and agricultural water in Imjin river, water shortage and damage correctly.
In the communications systems with diversity, we are commonly faced on needing of new source coding technique, error resilient coding. The error resilient coding addresses the coding algorithm that has the robustness to unreliability of communications channel. In recent years, many error resilient coding techniques were proposed such as data partitioning, resynchronization, error detection, concealment, reference picture selection and multiple description coding (MDC). Especially, the MDC using correlating transform explicitly adds correlation between two descriptions to enable the estimation of one set from the other. However, in the conventional correlating transform method, there is a critical problem that decoder must know statistics of original image. In this paper, we propose an enhanced method, the MDC using whitening transform that is not necessary additional statistical information to decode image because the DCT coefficients to apply whitening transform to an image have uni-variance statistics. Our experimental results show that the proposed method achieves a good trade-off between the coding efficiency and the reconstruction quality. In the proposed method, the PSNR of images reconstructed from two descriptions is about 0.7dB higher than conventional method at the 1.0 BPP and from only one description is about 1,8dB higher at the same rate.

Along with effluence of non-point pollution source, continuous precipitation due to rainy season or localized heavy rain can also be a good reason for increase of flow rate. And if the water level is going up due to the increase, floating debris around rivers and streams will move because of increased flow velocity. However, currently, there are no studies which perform quantitative calculation on movement of floating debris by analyzing amount of rainfall and flow rate in both domestic and abroad. Thus, the present study calculated amount of movement of floating debris based on moving route monitoring results according to changes of effective rainfall and flow rate that are obtained by using SCS-CN method.
A number of the experiments on the phenomenon in which the thermal energy was transferred from a hot sphere to the surrounding water through the film boiling process had been conducted. As the sphere only carried the thermal energy associated with its initially high temperature but did not contain any other thermal source, the film boiling was only driven by the decreasing temperature of the sphere and, thus, was time dependent. The results from the experiments showed that the temperature of the sphere was slowly decreased in the beginning. This corresponded to the period in which the sphere was penetrating the water surface. Later, when the sphere was fully submerged and the transition film boiling was observed over the whole surface, the temperature of the sphere was decreased relatively much faster. In the last stage, the temperature of the sphere was again slowly decreased. This was considered caused by the relatively low temperature of the sphere, which reduced and later ceased the film boiling process. In addition, the estimation of the departure rate of the steam bubbles from the film layer was also correlated for the experiments.

We investigate a surface-micromachined capacitive accelerometer with the grid-type electrodes surrounded by a perforated proof-mass frame. An electromechanical analysis of the microaccelerometer has been performed to obtain analytical formulae for natural frequency and output sensitivity response estimation. A set of prototype devices has been designed and fabricated based on a 4-mask surface-micromachining process. The resonant frequency of 5.8$\pm$0.17kHz and the detection sensitivity of 0.28$\pm$0.03mV/g have been measured from the fabricated devices. The parasitic capacitance of the detection circuit with a charge amplifier has been measured as 3.34$\pm$1.16pF. From the uncertainty analysis, we find that the major uncertainty in the natural frequency of the accelerometer comes from the micromachining error in the beam width patterning process. The major source of the sensitivity uncertainty includes uncertainty of the parasitic capacitance, the inter-electrode gap and the resonant frequency, contributing to the overall sensitivity uncertainty in the portions of 75%, 14% and 11%, respectively.
