Efficiency Evaluation of the Unconditional Maximum Likelihood Estimator for Near-Field DOA Estimation

  • In this paper, we address the problem of closely spaced source localization using sensor array processing. In particular, the performance efficiency (measured in terms of the root mean square error) of the unconditional maximum likelihood (UML) algorithm for estimating the direction of arrival (DOA) of near-field sources is evaluated. Four parameters are considered in this evaluation: angular separation among sources, signal-to-noise ratio (SNR), number of snapshots, and number of sources (multiple sources). Simulations are conducted to illustrate the UML performance to compute the DOA of sources in the near-field. Finally, results are also presented that compare the performance of the UML DOA estimator with the existing multiple signal classification approach. The results show the capability of the UML estimator for estimating the DOA when the angular separation is taken into account as a critical parameter. These results are consistent in both low SNR and multiple-source scenarios.

  • Delay-and-sum (DAS) Planar Beamforming has been a widely used Noise Source Identification Technique for the last decade. It is a quick one shot measurement technique being able to map sources that are larger than the array itself. The spatial resolution is proportional to distance between array and source, and inversely proportional to wavelength, thus the resolution is only good at medium to high frequencies. Improved algorithms using iterative de-convolution techniques offers up to ten times better resolution. The principle behind these techniques is described in this paper, as well as measurement examples from the automotive industry are presented.

Performance Enhancement of Whistle Sound Source Tracking Algorithm using Time-Scale Filter Based on Wavelet Transform

  • A purpose of developing a sound source tracking system in this paper is to reduce the noise efficiently from the received signal by microphone array and measure the signal's time delay between the microphones. I have applied the wavelet analysis algorithm to the system and calculated the sound source's relative position For the performance evaluation, I have compared with the results of utilizing the digital filtering methods based on the FIR LPF using Kaiser window function and the inverse Chebyshev IIR LPF. As a result, I have confirmed the fact that 'time-scale' filter using inverse discrete wavelet transform was suitable for this system.

SMD 타입 태양전지 어레이를 이용한 white GaN LED용 전원 공급 장치 (Power Supply for White GaN LED by Using SMD Type Solar Cell Array)

  • Using six SMD(surface mount device) type AlGaAs/GaAs single junction solar cells connected in series, a power source was fabricated for a white GaN LED. The electrical properties of the power source was measured and analyzed under one sun (100mW/$cm^2$) and various indoor light (300 - 900 lux) conditions. Under 600 lux indoor light condition, output power was 17.06 ${\mu}W$ and it was 30.75 ${\mu}W$ under 900 lux indoor light condition. Using the fabricated solar cell power supply, we have turned on the white GaN LED. It was worked well under 15 ${\mu}W$(at 480 lux) power supplied from solar cell array. This kind of solar cell power supply can be used as a power source for ubiquitous sensor network (USN).

  • 지하수 오염물질의 이동모형 개발에 있어서 중요한 문제의 하나가 각각의 폐기물 저장용기 나 드럼을 독립된 선원으로 볼 것이냐 아니면 상응하는 합쳐진 선원으로 볼 것이냐 하는 문제이다. 본 논문에서는 포화된 다공성 매질에서의 분산된 선원에 대한 연구를 소개한다. 지하수의 유동이 있는 다공성 매질에서 평면상에 분산된 점 형태의 선원들을 가정하여 얻어 진 지하수내의 오염물질의 농도분포를 상응하는 크기를 가진 무한한 평면선원이나 하나의 점 선원을 농도분포들과 비교하였다. 본 연구의 결과로 다음의 세 영역을 찾아낼 수 있었다. 즉, (1) 선원에 가까운 관계로 인근 선원의 영향이 커서 각각의 선원들을 따로 고려한 모형을 사용하여야 하는 영역, (2) 선원에서 몇 미터 떨어진 지점으로부터 수백 내지 수천미터 떨어진 지점까지의 각각의 선원 대신 상응하는 유한한 평면 선원만이 정착한 결과를 얻게 하는 영역, (3) 선원으로부터 충분히 멀리 떨어져 있어서 상응하는 유한한 평면 선원만이 정확한 결과를 얻게 하는 영역이다

  • Capabilities of several beamforming techniques are compared for estimating the position of a moving source. Beamforming has enabled to widen our perspective of aeroacoustics in wind tunnel experiments and has provided useful approach in array measurements. Meanwhile beamforming techniques have been developed in a way to improve estimation accuracy and to save ing effort at the same time. In order to achieve reasonable outcome from aeroacoustic measurement, it is important to identify the spectral characteristics of source and to select an appropriate beamformer. Though aeroacoustic sources normally generates broadband noises, many array signal processing have been focused on narrowband processing which makes calculation numerically efficient. However, calculation in frequency-domain requires selection of single frequency of interest which affects spatial resolution and sidelobe level as a consequence. To be able to localize broadband noise source, it is proposed to use broadband beamforming. The formulas implements the deletion of diagonal term from cross spectral matrix. In this study, trajectory of flying source emitting broadband noise was simulated and several beamformers are applied.

위성 배터리 충전을 위한 태양전력조절기의 제어기 고장 분석 (Failure Analysis of Solar Array Regulator Controller for Charging Satellite Battery)

  • 저궤도 인공위성은 전기 에너지 원으로 주로 태양전지 배열기를 사용한다. 태양전지 배열기는 인공위성이 식구간에 들어가면 전기 에너지를 발생시키지 못하므로, 식구간에서는 배터리가 인공위성에 전기 에너지를 공급한다. 또한 태양전지 배열기는 동작 전압에 따라 출력하는 전력이 변하며, 최대 전력을 출력하는 최대전력점이 존재한다. 일광구간에서 태양전지 배열기가 최대전력을 출력하여 위성에 전기 에너지를 공급하고 남은 에너지로 배터리를 충전할 수 있도록 태양전력 조절기기가 필요하다. 태양전력 조절기의 입력에는 태양전지 배열기가 연결되고, 출력에는 배터리가 연결된다. 태양전력 조절기는 안정적인 동작을 위해 2 of 3 Hot Redundant로 동작한다. 즉, 3개의 DC-DC 컨버터가 하나의 태양전력 조절기를 구성하며, 이 DC-DC 컨버터 하나가 고장이 발생하더라도 태양전력 조절기는 안정적으로 동작한다. 본 논문에서는 태양전력 조절기 동작 중 DC-DC 컨버터의 제어기에 고장이 발생한 순간 태양전력 조절기가 어떻게 동작하는지 분석하고, 배터리와 태양전지 배열기에 어떠한 영향을 미치는가에 대하 분석한다.

Multiple Response Optimization for Robust Design using Desirability Function

  • Robust design is to identify appropriate settings of control factors that make the system's performance robust to to changes in the noise factors that represent the source of variation. In the Taguchi parameter design, the product array approach using orthogonal arrays is mainly used. However, it often requires an excessive number of experiments. An alternative approach, which is called the combined array approach, was suggested by Welch et. al. (1990) and studied by others. In these studies, only single response variable was considered. We propose how to simultaneously optimize multiple responses when we use the combined array approach.

Inside an laboratory water tank, far-field directivity patterns as well as near-field source images are reconstructed from the measured hologram by hydrophone array. Approximate equation for far-field directivity estimation is derived based on stationary phase method. The simulation and experiment show well usefulness of the proposed method in application of underwater array sensors.
