  • In this paper, a predictive direct power control (DPC) method based on a Kalman filter is presented for three-phase pulse-width modulation (PWM) rectifiers to improve the performance of rectifiers with source voltages that are distorted with harmonic components. This method can eliminate the most significant harmonic components of the source voltage using a Kalman filter algorithm. In the process of predicting the future real and reactive power to select an optimal voltage vector in the predictive DPC, the proposed method utilizes source voltages filtered by a Kalman filter, which can mitigate the adverse effects of distorted source voltages on control performance. As a result, the quality of the source currents synthesized using the PWM rectifier is improved, and the total harmonic distortion (THD) values are reduced, even under distorted source voltages.

  • In this paper, we study a series active power filter to compensate current harmonics and unbalanced source voltages. Conventional control methods for compensating unbalanced source voltages use source voltages to calculate compensation voltages, and in addition use load voltages to regulate load voltages. But the proposed control method uses load voltage to compensate unbalanced source voltages and regulate load voltages. And we propose a control method to reduce current harmonics which can calculate compensation voltages directly from source currents and load voltages. By well-matched operation of two control methods, the series active power filter can compensate current harmonics, unbalanced source voltages, and regulate load voltages. We compose a combined system of the series active power filter and parallel passive filters to confirm a validity of proposed control methods. The results from experiments are presented to demonstrate effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • An Electrical equipment is the noise source which makes a noise. So the optimally designed filter should be inserted in the equipment in order to reduce the noise. The noise source impedance is varied according to the frequency It effects on the CE noise. Knowing the magnitude of its impedance and inserting an EMI filter in the equipment we can estimate the insertion loss of the filter. SO it helpful in designing the EMI filter. The measurement method of a noise source impedance is proposed and verified by experiment.

  • This paper proposes a quasi Z-source converter(QZSC) with a diode-capacitor output filter to improve the output DC voltage boost ability. The proposed converter has the same quasi Z-source network topology compared with the conventional converter. But the proposed method is adopted a diode-capacitor filter as its output filter, since the conventional method is used an inductor-capacitor as its output filter. Under the condition of the same input-output DC voltage, the proposed method has more lower shoot-through duty ratio than the conventional method. Also, because the proposed converter has same voltage boost factor under lower shoot-through duty ratio compared with the conventional converter, the proposed converter can be operated with the lower capacitor voltage of Z-source network and the lower input current. To confirm the validity of the proposed method, PSIM simulation and a DSP based experiment were performed to acquire the output DC voltage 120[V] under the input DC voltage 80[V]. And the capacitor voltage and inductor current in Z-source network, the output voltage of each converter were compared and discussed.

  • This paper deals with current harmonics and unbalanced source voltages compensation using combined filter system. Filter system consists of a series active filter and parallel passive filters. Passive filters were a traditional method to compensate current harmonics, so those were installed in power system widely. The active filter can be a substitution to improve filtering characteristics and complement drawbacks of the passive filter. The combined system of the active power filter and passive filter can has a better compensation performances and economical goods. The series type active power filter injects compensation voltage into power system by transformers. It's compensation principle is able to applicate for voltage compensation. A new control algorithm for series active filter to compensate current harmonics and unbalanced source voltages is proposed. In the proposed algorithm, a compensation voltage for harmonic reduction is calculated directly by instantaneous reactive power theory, and a compensation voltage for unbalanced source voltage is calculated in based on a synchronous reference frame. By experiments, we show validity of proposed compensation method.

  • In this paper, 3-phase hybrid series active power filter for compensate current harmonics, voltage drop and unbalanced voltage in the network presented. The proposed system is implemented with a space vector modulation voltage source inverter and a high pass filter connected in parallel to the power system. Here the load is six-pulses thyristor rectifier. The phase angle detected in order to generation reference voltage at load terminal is synchronized with the positive sequence component of the unbalanced source by using symmetrical component transformation. The proposed system has an function harmonic isolation between source and load, voltage regulation, and unbalance compensation. Therefore, what the power system is improved quality, the source current is maintained as a nearly sinusoidal waveform and the load voltage is regulated with a rated voltage regardless of the source variation condition. To verify the validity of the proposed compensating system, the computer simulation and experiment are carried out.

The proposed series active power filter compensating unbalance source voltage and current harmonics of the parallel active power filter improves power factor. The proposed algorithm which improves for power factor and harmonic reduction are calculated by the performance function, and which compensates for the unbalanced source voltage is calculated based on the symmetrical component analysis. We composed a combined system of the series active power filter and parallel active power filter to confirm a validity of the proposed control methods. • This paper deals with a Z-source active power filter(Z-AFU) for mitigation voltage THD(total harmonic distortion) due to voltage harmonic propagation(amplification) in 6.6kv power distribution system. Bus voltage harmonic signal is detected by 60Hz butterworth BPF(band pass filter). As an ESS(energy storage system) of the proposed system, PEM fuel cells(Ballard NEXA, 1.2kw) is employed. Test results based on PSIM(power electronics simulation tool) validate the proposed approach.

  • In this paper, a Z-source hybrid active power filter is proposed to compensate the harmonics and reactive power in power distribution system. The proposed system is composed of a 7th harmonics-tuned passive filter and an active power filter with a Z-source inverter topology, while voltage source PWM inverter or current source PWM inverter are applied as the power converter topology of conventional active power filters. The Z-source impedance network along with shoot through capability would ensure a constant DC voltage across the DC link. A polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell is employed as an compensation DC energy source of the proposed system and its equivalent R-L-C circuit is modeled for simulation. As the compensation and control algorithm of the proposed system, the current synchronous detection algorithm is applied. The simulation analysis by PSIM is performed under the three-phase 220V/60Hz voltage source and 25A nonlinear diode loads. The effectiveness of the proposed the system is verified in the steady and transient states.

  • A flexible and tunable microwave photonic filter based on adjustable optical frequency comb source is demonstrated. We use a combination of a dual parallel Mach Zehnder modulator and an intensity modulator to generate fifteen comb lines with proper weights to implement a desired filter. The optical comb weights, corresponding to the tap coefficients of the filter, are flexibly changed by adjusting the operation parameters of the modulators. The achieved bandwidth and stopband attenuation of the tunable filter are 0.7 GHz and 20 dB, respectively. In addition, we overcome the undesired low frequency suppression appeared in a conventional scheme by applying a dual parallel Mach Zehnder modulator for single sideband suppressed carrier modulation.
