Sound Radiation Characteristics of Cracked Rectangular Vibrating Plates (균열을 갖는 직사각형 진동평판의 음향 방사특성)

  • This paper considers the sound radiation characteristics of a craked rectangular vibrating plate, varying the orientation angle of a line crack. The vibration response of the cracked vibrating plate is obtained by using ANSYS, the acoustic theory based on the lumped parameter model is used to calculate radiated sound power. The radiated sound powers are computed with varying the orientation angle of the crack: i.e, 0$^{\circ}$, 45$^{\circ}$, and 90$^{\circ}$. It is found that characteristics of the radiated sound power are very closely related to the crack orientation, vibration mode and crack location.

Objectively Quantified Consonance of Complex Sounds (객관적으로 정량화된 복합 신호음의 조화도)

  • In this paper, objectively quantified consonance of complex sound is proposed as a new psychoacoustical parameter. Proposing algorithm quantifies consonance of complex sound after applying psycho acoustical models which are parts of human perception such as masking effect, equal loudness contour, and critical band. To verify proposing algorithm, experiments with 10 car horn signals which have different complex sound were performed. The experiments show cross correlation of 0.95 between objectively quantified consonance by proposing algorithm and subjectively assessed consonance by listening tests. Considering the fact that there are few psychoacoustical parameter except Zwicker parameter, proposing algorithm will help to quantify psychoacoustical effect of complex sounds objectively.

  • Booming sound is one of the most important interior sound of a passenger car. The conventional booming noise research was focused on the reduction of the A-weighted sound pressure level. However A-weighted sound pressure level can not give the whole story about the booming sound of a passenger car. In this paper, we employed sound metric which is the subjective parameter used in psycoacoustics. According to recent research results, the relation between sound metrics and subjective evaluation is very complex and has nonlinear characteristics. In order to estimate this nonlinear relationship, artificial neural network theory has been applied to derivation of sound quality index for booming sound of a passenger car.

  • In the study, it is considered sporty car as 1400cc entry cars using sound generator. These cars are required special sound quality, also sporty sound quality. The operational principle of this sound generator system is that on the operation of the engine intake valves caused pulsating is to shake the membrane of the sound generator on the inside of the driver front dash panel through the intake manifold, which will deliver the required sound quality and tone. For the component constructed sound generator, main design parameters are selected and optimized using the daguchi's method. The results are as follows; The C2 sound level must be minimized and C4 level must be maximized. And also overall level keeps linear characteristics.

Cross-Cultural Comparison of Sound Sensation and Its Prediction Models for Korean Traditional Silk Fabrics

  • In this study, cross-cultural comparison of sound sensation for Korean traditional silk fabrics between Korea and America was performed and prediction models for sound sensation by objective measurements including sound parameters such as level pressure of total sound (LPT), Zwicker's psychoacoustic characteristics, and mechanical properties by Kawabata Evaluation System were established for each nation to explore the objective parameters explaining sound sensation of the Korean traditional silk. As results, Koreans felt the silk fabric sounds soft and smooth while Americans were revealed as perceiving them hard and rough. Both Koreans and Americans were pleasant with sounds of Gongdan and Newttong and especially Newttong was preferred more by Americans in terms of sound sensation. In prediction models, some of subjective sensation were found as being related mainly with mechanical properties of traditional silk fabrics such as surface and compressional characteristics.

The Design and Study of Virtual Sound Field in Music Production

  • In this paper, we propose a thorough solution for adjusting virtual sound field with different kinds of devices and software in preliminary procedure and late stage of music processing. The basic process of music production includes composing, arranging and recording at pre-production stage as well as sound mixing and mastering at post-production stage. At the initial stage of music creation, it should be checked whether the design of virtual sound field, the choice of the tone and the instrument used in the arrangement match the virtual sound field required for the final work. In later recording, mixing and mastering, elaborate adjustments should be done to the virtual sound field. This study also analyzed how to apply the parameter of the effectors to the design and adjustment of the virtual sound field, making it the source of our creation.

New Development of Two-Dimensional Sound Quality Index for Brand sound in Passenger Cars (승용차 브랜드 사운드를 위한 이차원 음질 인덱스 개발)

  • In automotive engineering, the brand sound is one of the important advantage strategy in a car company. For the design of brand sound, the selection of descriptive word for a car sound is one of major works in automotive sound quality research. In paper, booming sound and rumbling sound, which are professional words used by NVH engineers are used for the design of brand sound. We employed sound metrics which are the subjective parameter used in psychoacoustics. According to most research results, the relationship between subjective evaluations and sound metrics has nonlinear characteristics and is very complex. In order to link these subjective evaluations to sound metrics, the artificial neural network technology has been applied to two-dimensional sound quality index for a passenger car. These indexes is used for 46 passenger cars, which are samples of famous cars in the world. Also the preference in car sounds is evaluated by the trained NVH engineers. We coupled this preference with booming and rumbling sounds by using artificial neural network. In future, the two -dimensional sound index and preference index are very useful fur the development of brand sound in passenger cars.

  • This study deals with the relationship between the magnitude of ultrasonic nonlinear parameter B/A, and sound speed of amount of fat present in biological media to measure B/A system using a wide band ultrasonic transducer. To represent this case, mixtures of egg whites and egg yolk were studied. Even though the differences in density and sound speed of the two egg components were in the range of 1%, B/A increase parabolically as a function of the fat density, which is not in agreement with the Yoshizumi et al's suggestion. In skim milk that does not contain fat, both the B/A and the sound speed increase with the solubility. It is considered that protein could affect these values.
