  • The turbo chiller uses centrifugal compressor, which operates at about 14500 rpm. Due to the high rpm of the impeller, the noise of chiller makes one of the serious problems. The possibility of the sound reduction by using absorbing material is studied in this paper. The generated sound propagates through the duct and then radiates to the outer field. So, the use of sound absorption material inside the duct is one of the effective methods. To study the effect of location of the material, we use Boundary Element Method to analyze the sound field inside the duct system. Numerical study shows the highest sound pressure region is near the elbow of curved duct. From the analysis, it is also shown that the elbow duct is the main radiator of noise and sound absorption treatment of this duct results noise reduction of the highest noise level at BPF and high frequency region.

  • In this paper, through the study on locations of structural transducers for active control of the radiated sound from the vibrating plate, the active structural acoustic control (ASAC) system is proposed. And, for the evaluation of the proposed location, the experiment of the active structural acoustic control is implemented using the multi-channel filtered-x LMS algorithm and an additional filter (Acoustic Prediction Filter) to estimate the radiated sound using the acceleration signals of the plate. The structural transducers are piezoceramic actuator (PZT) and accelerometer. PZT is used as an actuator to reduce the vibration and the radiated sound. To maximize the control performance, each PZT actuator is located at the position that has the largest control sensitivity of the plate bending moment in the direction of x and y coordinates and the optimal PZT location is validated experimentally. Also, to find the acoustic prediction filter accurately, two accelerometers are located at the positions that have the largest radiation efficiencies of the plate, and the proposed locations are validated by simulation using the Rayleigh integral. The multi-channel filtered-x LMS algorithm is introduced to control a complex 2-D structural vibration mode. Finding the locations of structural transducers for active structural acoustic control of the radiated sound, the active structural acoustic control (ASAC) system can be presented and validated by experiments using a real time control system.

  • Technology for compressing low-bitrate multichannel audio coding is being standardized owing to the increasing need of consumer for multichannel audio contents. In this paper we propose the sound source location cue coding (SSLCC) for extremely compressing multichannel audio to be suitable at the narrow bandwidth transmission environment. To improve the compression capability of the conventional binaural cue coding(BCC), the SSLCC adopts the virtual source location information (VSLI) as a spatial cue parameter, a symmetric uniform quantizer, and Huffman coder. The objective and subjective assessment results show that the SSLCC provides lower bitrate and better audio quality than conventional BCC method.

  • This study is aimed to evaluate a tunneling effect in the laboratory measurement of sound transmission loss. Based on the formulation for sound transmission loss of a finite panel in the presence of tunnel, variations of the sound transmission loss with the parameters of panel location and tunnel depth are investigated. In comparison with the transmission loss of a finite plate in an infinite rigid baffle, the maximum difference occurs in the laboratory measurement when the panel is placed at the center of the tunnel, while a better estimation of true transmission loss is obtained when the panel is located at either end.

  • This pater is a study on the measurement of solid-borne sound propagation in buildings. The purpose of this paper is to present the data needed for comfortable building enevironment. Solid-Borne sound in apartment building was measured at the source of sound and at many receiving locations in building. Dispersion of the sound level was analyzed to understand noises level at different locations. Graphic method as well as polynomial regression techniques were employed. For this experiment, we made use of the TAPPING MACHINE according to the standard rules of ISO as a impulse exciter, and the measurement was carried out after the building has been all completed. Noticeable noise reductions were observed as the distance from the source to the receiving location increases.

  • The sound-speed and density contrasts are important factors in estimating the target strength (TS) of moon jellyfish (Aurelia aurita). In this study, the sound-speed and density contrasts were measured using time-of-flight and neutral buoyancy methods, respectively. The sound-speed contrast of A. aurita was from 0.9966 to 1.0031 (mean${\pm}$SD, $0.9999{\pm}0.0017$) and no distinct differences in temperature or pulsation activity and weak were found. The density contrast was from 0.9994 to 1.0004 (mean${\pm}$SD, $1.0000{\pm}0.0002$). The density of A. aurita was substantially different but the density contrast of A. aurita was shown to be similar to that in the sampling location. The results can be used to estimate of TS of A. aurita by acoustic model.

  • P.A.(public address) system is considered as an useful active soundscape appliance which can gives a place identity and vitality by introducing conventional musics, environmental musics, bird singing sounds etc. In this study, the main aim is to know the optimistic distance from the speaker and sound pressure level range of introducing sound. So, the sound pressure level of P.A. system due to distances were measured and subjects' responses with level variations were checked. The main results are as follows. Level range from 64 dB to 71 dB is comfortable for subjects. And the optimal level of introducing sound is related with sound source characteristics. The results of this study could be used for street furniture location design and P.A. system output level.

  • The main objective of this study is to estimate location and strength of sound sources distributed on the surface of an enclosure. Acoustic holography method has been used to identify the sources in an interior sound field. However, it can not completely distinguish between the direct sound field from sources and the reflections from surfaces. The method just reconstructs the entire sound field based on the sound pressure at the finite number of measurement points. In this stduy, a method which estimates only the active sources by using measurements of field pressure and surface admittance is proposed. An in-situ technique to estimate the general boundary condition is also proposed by using acoustic holography, assuming the surfaces are locally reacting.

  • This paper is contents about method to measure interception performance of shock noise of floor slab of apartment house to be simple. In the case of interception performance of light floor impact sound level, according to measurement method, grade of sound insulation performance showed greatly differently. But, in the case of interception performance of heavy floor impact sound level, it was similar result in all measurement method. Therefore, use of simple method of measurement was examined by possible fact in case of interception performance of heavy floor impact sound level.
