Traffic volume has been greatly increasing due to urban development and the improvement of living standards, and many complaints are being raised due to the increasing road noise. As a countermeasure against these problems, highly soundproof walls are installed on the sides of roads. However, the ability to bear wind loads is a major design requirement for soundproof walls, which contributes to the exponential increases in construction costs and restricts the height of the walls. The aim of this study is to improve the performance of soundproof walls and to dramatically reduce wind loads while maintaining excellent price competitiveness. Based on Helmholz's resonator theory, a new concept is proposed for a ventilation-type soundproofing plate that can pass through a fluid like air and reduce noise. A full-scale metal soundproofing plate was produced to satisfy the quality standards of highways by conducting a sound-pressure transmission-loss test, wind tunnel test, and material quality test. To verify the reliability, the wall was manufactured and installed, and the sound insulation effect was examined by measuring the noise over time. In the future, ventilated soundproof walls on roads could create a pleasant living environment due to the high noise-insulation effect.
In this paper, active noise control was performed to reduce radiated noise in the low frequency band of dishwashers. First, through an analysis of the noise environment of the dishwasher, it was confirmed that the pump noise contributed the most to the radiated noise in the low frequency band, From the result of the noise environment analysis, the reference signal was selected to be the vibration signal of the pump body. The reference signal was obtained by using the accelerometer on the pump body, which can prevent acoustic feedback. The error signal sensor was selected as a microphone located at 1 m in front of the dishwasher and 0.5 m in height. And to design the controller, the error signal and the reference signal were measured at the operational rpms of the dishwasher at 2,500 rpm, 2,600 rpm and 2,800 rpm, and the secondary path transfer function was measured. The designed controller was mounted on Digital Signal Processor (DSP) equipment, and the control performance was verified experimentally. As a result of the measurement at the 3 operational rpms, the 7th multiple component of pump operating frequency decreased by 1.93 dB, 4.43 dB, 5.15 dB per rpm, and the 12th multiple component decreased by 6.67 dB, 2.34 dB, 4.28 dB per rpm. And overall Sound Pressure Level (SPL) decreased by 0.84 dB, 2.58 dB, 1.48 dB by rpm.

Sonobuoy is widely used as a very important sensor in combat management system using P-3 patrol aircraft due to its advantages of rapid searching into wide exploration range. It is necessary to verify the performance of developed sonobuoy system using various maritime test data in order to be successfully applied in combat management system. But it is difficult to acquire various real maritime data because it needs much time and effort. Therefore we have developed in this paper a synthetic signal generator and a simulator that they can verify the performance of sonobuoy system and evaluate its operational effectiveness without conducting maritime test. We have synthesized target signals based on the characteristics of underwater sound sources, and then developed the synthesized signal generator which consider to sound propagation etc. like as underwater environment. And in the simulator development we use a HMI technique to enhance the convenience of operator, and design to verify the performance of sonobuoy system. The developed signal generator and simulator can be used as useful tools to evaluate the operational effectiveness such as optimal deployment of sonobuoy in combat management system using P-3 patrol aircraft.
The absorption coefficients of the materials used in a 1:50 scale model multipurpose hall were measured based on ISO 354 and related laws. The shape and materials for the scale model were evaluated based on reflective surfaces, variable acoustic elements and sound-absorbing quality (125Hz-1kHz average) of seats. The measured average absorption coefficients of audience seats, audience and orchestra were 0.64, 0.74 and 0,45, respectively, which were simulated with the combination of wood, absorption materials and foam board. Various mounting methods for absorption curtain and banner were considered according to the installation methods. The average absorption coefficient was measured as 0.42, 0.47 and 0.45 in the conditions of Type A mounting, E mounting with 0.9 m backing air cavity, and Type G mounting which is suspended at the ceiling, respectively. It was confirmed that the absorption coefficient was increased at low frequency by backing air gap. The finishing material of stage house was an absorption material covered with thin fabric, which aimed average absorption coefficient of 0.68 by using fiber glass board. Each part of the real materials was compared with those of 1:50 scale model and it was found that the absorption characteristics of both cases were similar.
Due to technological advances, the cruising speed of high-speed trains is increasing, and aerodynamic noise generated from the flow outside the train has been an important consideration in the design stage. To accurately predict the flow-induced noise, high-resolution generation of sound sources in the near field and low-dissipation of sound propagation in the far field are required. This should be accompanied by a numerical grid and time resolution that can properly consider both temporal and spatial scales for each component of the real high-speed train. To overcome these challenges, this research simultaneously calculates the external flow and acoustic fields of five high-speed train cars of real-scale and at operational running speeds using a threedimensional unsteady Large Eddy Simulation technique. To verify the numerical analysis, the measurements of the wall pressure fluctuation and numerical results are compared. The Ffowcs Williams and Hawking equation is used to predict the acoustic power radiated from the high-speed train. This research is expected to contribute to noise reduction based on the analysis of the aerodynamic noise generation mechanism of high-speed trains.
In the past, the design education focused on the technique and skill to satisfy the production and consumption activities of a corporation based on beauty and practicality in the industrial age. Now, it's time to switchover to a life-quality enhancing education by harmonizing and meeting the public's physical and mental needs because design education is a character education which enhances the quality of life by uplifting people's aesthetic sense. This paper has emphasized on the importance of public education of design through the theoretical investigation on social environmental changes caused by the emergence of information society,,education problems, public education, and the necessity of design education. The reason why this study should be done has been suggested by investigating the necessity of this research and bringing up the issue. Furthermore, the current status and problems of public education on design have been analyzed. Then, based on the result, the development direction of design education has been suggested. This study can be concluded as follows: First, the design education should change from its vertical structure to a horizontal one. It should be widely spread to the public, getting off from its privatization for a certain group. Second, designers and the public should correct their way of thinking about design. The ordinary people as well as the designers should cultivate their capability to find and take care of design related issues in their everyday lives. Third, all people should be the subject of design education for the public. As a part of cultural education on the public's aesthetic sense, design education should be reborn as a field of study in which a sound public culture can be developed by the integration of human life and culture, exceeding the limit of school curriculum.
Weirs are to secure amount water of streams and drop structures are to enhance stabilization of stream bed and bridges are to connect isolated region, which are called stream crossing structures. In the stream design criteria, directions for minimum size of structures are suggested to secure stability of stream crossing structures. However the sizes of almost all existing weirs and drop structures are not satisfied with the stream design criteria and only 22 percent of the peirs of bridges are satisfied. To enhance hydraulic stability of existing weirs and drop structures, it is required that the ratio of bed protection to apron should be above 3.3. According to factual survey of structures in the sample streams, it has been shown that the longitudinal slope of rapid works with 1:20 is the most reasonable to design velocity if existing weirs and drop structures are rehabilitated into rapid works. It has been known that violating freeboard and span length of piers should make existing bridges reconstructed or removed. However, comprehensive review including deterioration level of bridges, special regulation for span length, etc. should be considered to determine rehabilitation plan of bridges. In this study, a procedure has been suggested to improve hydraulic stability of weirs, drop structures and piers of bridges. Sound environment of stream and reduction of natural disaster could be achieved by improving stability of cross structures, which could be obtained by governmental budget and active stream management including observance of design criteria.
This paper presents an intuitive 3D modeling interlace based on a field study and prototype development. The process and tools of modeling were observed in workshops of professional design model making, day modeling, wood caning and glass crafting. The Spray Modeling interlace was developed from the observational analysis of the field study. It is a 3D modeling interface which combines particle spraying and day modeling in Virtual or Augmented Reality space. Virtual volume particles are sprayed on frames in Augmented Reality space as day modeling. It adopts a real air spay gun as a tangible interface device which provides coherent sound and air-force feedback. The prototype development and a user study showed that the interface supports new patterns of form development and expression. Control interfaces and requirements of auxiliary devices were found to be improved. This study examines the potential of the new interlace for designers working in 3D virtual and augmented reality. The new spraying interface is also expected to be used as an alternative interface in 3D computer workspace, games, education software and media art.
This study was to analyze the displacement and the magnitude and mode of distribution of the stresses in the lower overdenture, the mucous membrane, the abutment teeth and the mandibular supporting bone when various abutment designs were subjected to different loading schemes. For this study, the two-dimensional finite element method was used. The models of overdenture and mandibe with the canine and the second premolar remaining, were fabricated. In the first design, a 1 mm space was prepared between the denture and the dome abutment with the height of 2 mm(OS). In the second design, a contact between the denture and the occlusal third of the dome abutment with the hight of 2 mm was prepared(OC). In the third design, a 0.5 mm space was prepared between the denture and 8 degree tapered cylindrical abutments with the height of 7 mm(TS). In the fourth design, a contact between the denture and the occlusal two thirds of the conical abutments with the height of 7 mm was prepared(TC). In order to represent the same physiological condition as the fixed areas of the mandible under loading schemes, the eight nodes which lie at the mandibular angle, the coronoid process and the mandibular condyle were assumed to be fixed. Each model was loaded with a magnitude of 10 Kgs on the first molar region (P1) and 7 Kgs on the central incisor region (P2) in a vertical direction. The force of 10 Kgs was then applied distributively from the first premolar to the second molar of each motel in a vertical direction (P3). The results were as follows: 1. The vertical load on the central incisor region(P2) produced the higher displacement and stress concentration than that on the posterior region(P1, P3). 2. The case of space between abutment and denture base produced higher displacement than that of contact, and the case of long abutment produced higher displacement than that of short abutment because of low rigidity of denture base. 3. The magnitude of the torque and vertical force to the abutment teeth and the stress distribution to the denture base was higher in the telescope coping than in the overdenture coping. 4. The vertical load on the central incisor region(P2) produced higher equivalent stress in the mandible than that on the posterior region(P1, P3). 5. The case of space between abutment and denture base produced better stress distribution to the farther abutment from the loading point than that of contact. 6. In case of sound abutment teeth, the type of telescope coping can be used, hilt in case of weak abutment, the type of overdenture coping is considered to be favorable generally.

Emotional design gets more and more important. However, the systematical approaches to integration of user experience elements in product design have been rarely tried. This study consists of three parts. We extracted affective words fitting to design direction based on trend analysis. Then, user experience elements were matched with affective words. Finally, a prototype system was made to guide designing affective factors in electronic products. In the present study, user experience elements were defined as color, material & finishing, and sound. Through various documents analysis and trend analysis, trend analysis experts and user experience designers extracted 31 affective keywords which could fully reflect current trend. After paired-comparison of selected keywords, 2 sensibility dimensions were obtained by multidimensional scaling. Trend affective keywords could be explained by 2 dimensions of human-centered' vs. 'techno-centered' and 'warm vs. cool'. Next, user experience elements stimuli were matched with each keyword by user direct positioning on the 2 dimensions affective map. Based on the result of the experiment, the prototype system was developed for the product designers. The results of the current study could guide designers to design emotionally satisfactory products.
