A Fast Implementation of JPEG and Its Application to Multimedia Service in Mobile Handset

  • In this paper, a fast implementation of JPEG is discussed and its application to multimedia service is presented for mobile wireless internet. A fast JPEG player is developed based on several fast algorithms for mobile handset. In the color transformation, RCT is adopted instead of ICT for JPEG source. For the most time-consuming DCT part, the binDCT can reduce the decoding time. In upsampling and RGB conversion, the transformation from YCbCr to RGB 16 bit is made at one time. In some parts, assembly language is applied for high-speed. Also, an implementation of multimedia in mobile handset is described using MJPEG (Motion JPEG) and QCELP(Qualcomm Code Excited Linear Prediction Coding). MJPEG and QCELP are used for video and sound, which are synchronized in handset. For the play of MJPEG, the decoder is implemented as a S/W upon the MSM 5500 baseband chip using the fast JPEG decoder. For the play of QCELP, the embedded QCELP player in handset is used. The implemented multimedia player has a fast speed preserving the image quality.

  • 본 논문은 인식한 사용자의 감성에 따라 콘텐츠의 시청각적 요소를 변화시키는 감성 반응형 콘텐츠 플레이어 플랫폼에 관해 기술한다. 본 플랫폼은 사용자의 생체 신호 또는 능동적 참여를 통해 감성을 쾌, 불쾌, 각성, 이완 등의 상태로 분류하고, 그에 따라 조명, 배색, 사운드 등과 같은 시청각적 자극을 실시간으로 재구성하여 감성을 가속, 유지, 경감시킬 수 있다. 본 플랫폼은 감성 콘텐츠의 개발 및 활용에 사용될 수 있으며, 다양한 멀티미디어 요소들이 감성에 미치는 영향을 체계적으로 분석하는데 적용 가능하다. 본문에서는 개발한 플랫폼의 시스템 구조와 각 모듈의 구현 내용 및 플랫폼 기반 감성 콘텐츠에 대해서 설명한다.

영화편집론, 감정 커뮤니케이션 (Film Editing as Emotion Communication)

  • 이 연구는 영화편집론에서 감정과 커뮤니케이션에 관한 논의를 고찰하였다. 커뮤니케이션 형식으로서의 편집을 통해, 관객은 이야기의 새로운 사실이나 그 사실의 세부로서 새로운 쇼트에 반응하며, 새로운 쇼트는 관객의 귀납적 능력을 이용한다. 쿨레쇼프는 유명한 모주킨 실험을 통해 편집이 개별 쇼트의 내용을 넘어서는 감정과 연상을 이끈다는 것을 보여주고자 했다. 180도 법칙, 시선과 동작의 일치, 30도 법칙, 사운드의 지속성, 빛과 색의 연속성 등의 기술을 활용하는 연속편집은 감정을 강화시킨다. 영화의 감정 효과를 극대화하는 대표적인 장치가 시점편집이다. 영화 내레이션의 목적에 봉사하는 시점편집은 감정 커뮤니케이션을 실행하고 설득하는 강력한 수단이다.

Subjective Correspondence among Visual Variables, Auditory Variables and Duration of Vibratory stimulus Using Remote Controller

  • Subjective correspondence among visual variables, auditory variables and vibratory feedback to a hand was experimentally examined to improve usability of a remote controller. First, we studied the correspondence among visual variables represented on a screen or auditory variables and the duration of vibratory stimulus to the subjects' hand by subjective evaluation. Subjective rating method was used in ten items; suitability, comprehensibility, ease-to-use, naturalness, variety, activity, usualness, interest, wish-to-use and feeling of pleasure. Second, to show the effects of multi-modal interface using visual sense, the sense of auditory and vibratory sense, we combined positive stereotype of visual variables and auditory variables provided with the first experiment. The results showed some stereotype between visual variables or auditory variables and duration of vibratory stimulus. Some of the variables such as size, direction of motion, hue, brightness of color and volume of sound had high correspondence with the duration of vibration.

밀리터리 룩의 스트리트 패션화에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Street Fashion of Military Look)

  • A military uniform has two basic characters. One is functionality for field warfare and the other is decorativeness to express dignity and power to maintain systematic organization. For these purposes, the military uniform is maximizing its effects on functionality and decorativeness on each aspects of material, color, dignity, item, military ornaments and accessories. During wartime, the military uniform improved its functionality and gave much influence on normal clothing at the same time either directly or indirectly. Military look became more diverse. In a mood for the end of century and inflated material civilization, and with nostalgia for the fast, mixed styles of fast, presents and future have come out in variety. In Street Fashion, there are many alternative trends to meet diverse desires of teenagers, and the military look has been steadily favored. The functionality and the decorativeness of military look would have met fashion sense and taste of younger generations pretty well. First, teenagers are active, and the practical materials and functional designs of military style applied to their clothes. Second, they prefer challenging and creative styles, and the decorative elements of military clothing for the colors, patterns, accessories have been applied to they clothing. We may need to understand their culture and emotion more closely and help them enjoy sound and beautiful clothing culture. The military uniform adapted itself to natural and social environments and has been developed and improved, which made that possible.

백제시대의 목공예 연구 (A Study on Woodcraft in Baekje)

  • This paper researched the woodcraft in the Baekje kingdom since the study on the Baekje furniture has not been established due to the absence of the artifacts or remains related to the furniture in the Baekje period. Accordingly, the study focused on the excavated Baekje wooden products and wood crafts on the basis of ancient documents and investigated the ancient documents supposedly related to the Baekje furniture: The Chronicles of the Three States and Japan Scribe. As the result of the study, it could be summarized as follows. First of all, the woodcraft materials were wood, whagak, ivory, silver, gold and they were domestic or imported. Secondly, the woodcraft was finished naturally or lacquered with black or red color or varnishing with lacquer. Thirdly, the kinds of furniture used in the Baekje were a desk, a small portable dinning table, a table and folding stool. Even though there has been no heritage of the Baekje furniture and woodcraft and it is difficult to explain the characteristics or give an example of the Baekje furniture in detail, this study seems to be significant now that it researched the documents and related artifacts or remains which could give some hints or hypothesis of the furniture and woodcraft in the Baekje. What is more, there have been no sound studies on the Baekje furniture.

  • 영상콘텐츠 디자인 분야에서 합리적이고 이성적인 미의 구현에 있어서 일반적으로 수행하고 있는 구체적인 실체가 있는 가시적 영역의 디자인에서 벗어나 탈물질화 시대의 가상 공간인 비가시적 영역의 연구를 통하여 가시적 디자인으로 구상해내고, 전자공간에서 만들어지는 영상그래픽 들의 내포 의미와 새로운 감각을 얻을 수 있는 계기를 마련하고자 한다. 특히 물질 사회에서는 전자기파와 같은 눈에 보이지 않는 현상은 공간에 실존함에도 불구하고 개념적인 대상으로 다루어지곤 했는데 이러한 기존의 제한된 관점에서 벗어나 비가시적인 영역에 대한 디자인의 물리적ㆍ시적ㆍ미학적 경험에 대한 디자인 방안을 모색하고자 한다. 이러한 이론적 근거로 프랙탈디자인 분야에서 사운드와 리듬, 칼라와 이미지의 적용으로 인한 새로운 디자인에 대한 가능성을 확보하고자 한다.

과학적 탐구활동에서 나타난 초등학생들의 화강암 관찰결과의 특징과 타당성 연구 (The Study of the Characteristics and the Proprieties of the Granite Observing Results in the Elementary Students' Scientific Inquiry Activities)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the characteristics and proprieties of the granite observing results in the 4th grades elementary students' scientific inquiry activities. For this, the 4th, 94 students participated in granite observing activity which had objects to collecting applicable scientific facts for the distinguishing granite among the volcanic rocks. Following are the study results. First, the 829s of total results (879s) were admitted as the facts, but the rest, 50s were not the facts but the inference results. Second, the 542s results which were related to the shape, weigh, size, smell, sound, and touch (feeling) containing glittering of the rock specimen were the useless for the inquiry objects. And only the 85s results were the scientific facts which were deserved the admitting propriety for the inquiry objects. Third, the 185s results which were targeting to the particles (minerals) on the rock specimen were the admitting facts, but the 163s facts which were related to color, size and shape of the particles were deserved as admitting propriety for the inquiry objects. Consequently, the focusing on the proprieties of the granite observing results in the elementary students' scientific inquiry activities, only the 248 results (28.2%) of the total 879s were the admitting proprieties as the meaningful scientific facts in the scientific inquiry activities.

작업장의 공학적 개선을 위한 시뮬레이션 프로그램 활용 (A simulation program practical use for an engineering improvement of the work-place)

  • Prescribed according to the occupational safety and health low noise measurement method was changed to personal sampling in the method to measure an area noise. Such method had the limit which did not evaluated characteristic of sound of occurrence and the place of origin. This study was performed to establish an engineering remedy of the work-place noise. The subject was a vibration control process of the place of business in Pusan. A simulation program applied for an engineering improvement of the work-place noise. The results were as follows: 1. An noise occurrence level of the work-place before improvement was $88^{\sim}97dB(A)$, We applied an improvement method to be established and were expected to $80^{\sim}119dB(A)$. 2. The level of the noise-distribution to appear in the place of origin of the work-place before improvement was $90^{\sim}93dB(A)$ but, We executed the simulation after applied an engineering remedy and predicted $80^{\sim}85dB(A)$. A result of the simulation blue part was changed mostly into the dark blue color. The results suggest that simulation program establishes an engineering remedy and is useful to the case to apply.
