The effect of ultrasonic radiation is reported for silica-poly(ethylene glycol) system prepared without the solvent using sol-gel processing by varying various parameters such as ultrasonic irradiation time, PEG content and HCl/TEOS molar ratio. The property of sonogel is compared with classic gel which has been prepared with ethanol as a solvent by traditional sol-gel processing. SEM, BET, DTA-TGA, density and Vickers hardness measurements are carried out for analyzing the samples. The gelation time is found strongly dependent on radiation time, PEG content and pH value, and has been discussed on the basis of existing theories. The $SiO_2-10$ & 20 wt% PEG sonogel exhibited superior optical, physical and gel properties as compared to the classic gel, hence, found suitable for device applications. The ultrasonic radiation increased the density and surface area, and also reduced the pore size which is well supported by the shift in the peak of DTA curve. The DTA thermogram was found similar to that of pure silica gel.
Dispersion behavior of the slurries consisted of bimodal-type AlN powders was examined in non-aqueous solvent system. Azotropic solvent system and copolymer acidic dispersant were applied to the slurries. Measurements of the sedimentation height and the viscosity of the each slurry, and the test of particle size distribution of the each powder sample were conducted as examinations for the dispersion behavior at the various dispersant contents. The bimodal-type particle size distribution was continued after addition of the dispersant and small particle portions were increased as the dispersant content increases. The density of the green sheet was also increased as the dispersant content increases and a green density of $2.114\;g/cm^3$ was obtained at the sample prepared from 2.4 wt% dispersant content. The increase of large particle portions resulted in the surface defects of the green sheets.
To demonstrate their possibilities as an enhanced vaccine delivery system, protein-loaded Poly lactide glycolide copolymer (PLGA) microspheres were prepared with different physical characteristics. Ethyl acetate (EA) solvent extraction process was employed to prepare microspheres and the effects of process parameters on drug release properties were evaluated. The biodeuadability of microspheres was also evaluated by the pH change and GPC (Gel permeation chromatography). Primary IgG antibody responses in BALB/c mice were compared with protein saline solutions as negative controls and adsorbed alum suspensions as positive controls after single subcutaneous injection for in vivo studies. The microspheres showed a erosion with a highly porous structure and did not keep their spherical shape at 45 days and this result could be confirmed by GPC. In vitro release of proteinous drug showed initial burst effect in all batches of microspheres, followed by gradual release over the next 4 weeks. PLGA microspheres were degraded until 45 days and the secondary structure of OVA was not affected by the preparation method. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays demonstrated that the single subcutaneous administrations of OVA-loaded PLGA microspheres induced enhanced serum IgG antibody response in comparison to negative and positive controls. These results demonstrated that microspheres providing the controlled release of antigens might be useful in advanced vaccine formulations for the parenteral carrier system.
Multiscale hybrid composites, which consist of polymeric resins, microscale fibers and nanoscale reinforcements, have drawn significant attention in the field of advanced, high-performance materials. Despite their advantages, multiscale hybrid composites show challenges associated with nanomaterial dispersion, viscosity, interfacial bonding and load transfer, and orientation control. In this paper, carbon nanotube(CNT)/carbon fiber(CF)/polycarbonate(PC) multiscale hybrid composite were fabricated by a solution process to overcome the difficulties associated with controlling the melt viscosity of thermoplastic resins. The dependence of CNT loading was studied by varying the method to add CNTs, i.e., impregnation of CF with CNT/PC/solvent solution and impregnation of CNT-coated CF with PC/solvent solution. In addition, hybrid composites were fabricated through surfactant-aided CNT dispersion followed by vacuum filtration. The morphologies of the surfaces of hybrid composites, as analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, revealed the quality of PC impregnation depends on the processing method. Dynamic mechanical analysis was performed to evaluate their mechanical performance. It was analyzed that if the position of the value of tan ${\delta}$ is closer to the ideal line, the adhesion between polymer and carbon fiber is stronger. The effect of mechanical interlocking has a great influence on the dynamic mechanical properties of the composites with CNT-coated CF, which indicates that coating CF with CNTs is a suitable method to fabricate CNT/CF/PC hybrid composites.

A respirator is useful to protect a worker from the harmful gases and vapors in the workplace, and the evaluation of respirator cartridge service life is important for the worker's health and safety. The performance of cartridge is effected by several factors such as concentration of gas and vapor, humidity, temperature, adsorbents and cartridge packing density. Adsorption model was applied to both sampling tube and respirator cartridge to predict the service life for organic vapors. The variables of the adsorption model were measured from the experiment with the sampling tube, and it was used to predict the service life of respirator cartridge. In the experiment, we used carbon tetrachloride as a organic vapor and activated carbon take out respirator cartridge as activated carbon. As a result, it was possible to predict the service life of respirator cartridge and predicted service life was quite correct. Breakthrough time decreased with increase of CCl4 concentration. In case of sampling tube, adsorbed amount of CCl4 was larger than respirator cartridge due to linear velocity. Also, rate constant of sampling tube was larger than respirator cartridge, because of, effect of flow rate, packing density. In the prediction of service life of respirator cartridge by using sampling tube, the time required for 50% contaminant breakthrough(${\tau}$) is more effective than the rate constant(k').
Steam defiberated pulp and steam exploded wood(birch chip) were extracted with solvents (hot-water, 1% NaOH, MeOH, hot water, 1% NaOH). The properties of residual fiber were examined for the utilization as ruminants feed. The digestibility is 38% in steam defiberated pulp(10kg /$cm^2$-15min) and 62-77% in exploded wood(17-18kg/$cm^2$-2~10min), respectively. The more steam pressure and time increase, the more the digestibility increase. The sugars obtained from extractives is amount from 7% to 13% in asplund pulp and from 7% to 10% in exploded pulp. The sugars was mainly composed of 70-80% xylose. The digestibility of residual fiber which is extracted with solvents is low than these of original fibers. Considering the yield and digestibility as ruminant feed, exploded pulp under 17kg /$cm^2$ for 10min has the best efficiency. The exploded wood gives 75.3% on yield(O. D. chip) and 48% on the digestibility.
This study was conducted to evaluate the MSPD and HPLC method about simultaneous determination for residual synthetic antimicrobials of sixteen species such as sulfonamide etc. in livestock products. Elution solvent used in HPLC was ethylacetate:acetonitrile (4:1), and mobile phases for solvent A and B were water:methanol:acetonit rile:phosphric acid (700:250:50:0.2) and 100% acetonitrile respectively. The detector and absorbency used in HPLC was UV 266 nm. This study showed the reduction effect of 99.1% for organic solvents, 94% for experimental steps, 95% for analytical time and manpower and 98.9% for costs compared with korea food standard method. The average recovery rates for chicken, bovine, pork and milk were 67.7% 96.2%, 67.7%~96.6%, 70.0%~96.2%, and 13.8%~97.8%.

Raman spectra for the carbonyl stretching mode of the amides, and amide-solvent systems have been recorded to investigate the effect of alkyl substitutions at the carbonyl carbon and at the nitrogen on the amide hydrogen-bonding. The data have shown that the interaction affinities are in the order of amide-amide > amide-water > amide-alcohol in formamide system, and amide-water > amide-amide > amide-alcohol in acetamide and propionamide systems. The strength of the proton acceptor of the carbonyl oxygen is increased by the presence of alkyl group to the carbonyl carbon and the proton donorcity of the amide is decreased by the alkyl substitution at the nitrogen. The above results are in good agreement with the ab initio SCF MO calculation.
