  • Vacuum pump transfers waste that is pulverized by integrated macerator. For this reason, unlike ordinary pump systems, there is a rotating macerator ahead of impeller for pulverizing. It is hard to predict numerical solution because area of Inlet flow path changes according to the rotation angle of the integrated macerator. So, in this study, the verification of performance evaluation method of Marine vacuum pump were numerically studied by commercial ANSYS CFX 13.0 software. We select a model of performance evaluation for study, and we analyze change of inlet flow path of integrated macerator according to rotation angle. We generate 5 model sets according to rotation angle of the integrated macerator. And we evaluate their performance by numerical analysis. Then, we analyze internal flow field and performance according to rotation angle of the integrated macerator based on numerical analysis result. In addition, we compared with experimental data for validity of numerical result by using steady state analysis.

  • In this study, in order to utilize the waste heat of industrial wastewater in the range of the relatively low temperature of 40~5$0^{\circ}C$ as a heat source, a hybrid heat pump system was considered by computer simulation method. In the simulation, an absorber, desorber and solution heat exchanger were modelled by UA values while a compressor and pump performance were specified by an isentropic efficiency. Simulation results show that the performance of hybrid heat pump can be up to 80% higher than that of conventional R134a heat pump when it makes a process hot water of 9$0^{\circ}C$ while the wastewater is cooled down to 2$0^{\circ}C$. As the absorber pressure increases, the system performance and deserter pressure increase with a favorable effect of a compressor discharge gas temperature drop.

  • We developed a self-operated paper pump that can maintain a nearly constant flow rate of an aqueous solution along a paper strip channel in paper-based analytical devices (PADs). The quasi-stationary flow rate was controlled by increasing the crosssectional channel area (capillary force) using a fan-shaped absorption pad coupled with a paper strip channel. The flow rate is regulated by varying the fan angle of the circular absorbing pad. Furthermore, the flow rate can be increased by furnishing a hollow cavity at the center of a conventional paper strip channel. The rate was regulated by varying the length of the hollow paper channel in the flow rate range of 5.1-26.4 mm/min. As a preliminary work, a paper-pump-coupled PAD was fabricated, and its CV detection capability was evaluated for the redox reaction of Fe(CN)6+4/+3. The combination of a paper pump with a PAD resulted in an ideal CV curve with a higher limiting current and faster response time. These results are interpreted well by the Levich equation, which suggests that the paper pump is a very useful component in paper-based sensors.

  • The boiler feed pump located at a power plant has been experienced a severe vibration since the plant began to service in early 1980. The research is focused on the field measurement and implementation of simple signal processing techniques in order to provide realistic and effective solution which could be implemented into the plant. Based on the root cause analysis for the trouble-making pump system, the driving part gear in the fluid coupling system is identified as a potential source. The followed verification test confirms the analytical result. The test result shows that vibration reduction obtained after the gear replacement reaches up 15.8 dB, which is 1/6 times of the vibration level compared to that of the troble-making pump. The measured vibration level of the pump satisfies the manufacture criteria and guarantees the smoothed operation.

  • Hydraulic vane pumps are widely used in various hydraulic systems because of its compactness and light weight. It is well known that the vanes and cam ring are separated by very thin liquid films which result in the EHL state. Contrary to the case of cylindrical roller bearings, the inlet and side boundary pressures are much higher than the atmospheric pressure. In this paper, a numerical solution of the EHL of finite line contacts between the cam ring and vane tip with profiled ends is presented. Using a finite difference method with non-uniform grids and the Newton-Raphson method, converged solutions are obtained for moderate load and material parameters. The EHL pressure distribution and film shape are considerably affected by pump delivery pressure and the side boundary condition applied. Both the maximum pressure and the minimum film thickness always occurred near the edge regions. The present results can be used in the design of optimum vane profile in hydraulic vane pump.

  • Pump-cap is a device for discharging the contents stored inside a container to the outside of the container by a simple operation by a certain amount. In particular, in recent years, as the number of cosmetic products made of functional materials has rapidly increased, the development of convenient containers for functional materials is being actively conducted. Among these, there are a growing number of products that show their efficacy only by mixing two components, so the development of a dual pump cap container is necessary. However, the conventional dual pump cap container has a problem in that it is difficult to implement a quantitative discharge as solutions having different viscosities are used. Therefore, in this study, a discharge port of a dual pump cap that can apply an optimal ratio was designed by analyzing the discharge amount of two components with different viscosities through computational fluid dynamics. Since the discharge amount is affected by the size of the discharge port, the higher the viscosity of the solution, the larger the discharge port should be set. Conversely, the lower the viscosity, the smaller the discharge port should be. Through this, it is possible to dispense a fixed amount of a heterogeneous solution by one pumping, and it is determined that the user's convenience will increase.

  • Experiments were carried out to study the heat transfer characteristics of a disrober for 150 RT LiBr-water absorption heat pump. An experimental apparatus was divided into four sections, a combustion chamber area, two bare-tube areas, and finally a finned-tube area to quantify the heat transfer rate of each section by measuring the generation rate of vapor. Dividing plates was installed at the upper inside part of deserter to prohibit the moving of vapor generated at heating tubes of a section to another section near. In the first bare-tube area, the generation rate of vapor was the largest among the four sections. The finned-tube area only contributed to give sensible heat increase of solution to the saturation temperature. The heat transfer area of the finned-tube area was 52.2%, which absorbed only 9.2% of the total heat from the combustion gas. On the contrary, the heat transfer area of the first bare-tube area was 16.6%, but it absorbed 52.4% of the total absorbed heat. The temperature of the solution at upper part at the finned-tube area was lower than that of the lower part, because weak solution came in upper part of the finned-tube area. But, this tendency was changed at the first and second bare-tube area due to the vigorous heat transfer and fluid flow enhanced by vapor generation through heating tubes. The overall heat transfer coefficient and heat flux were the largest at the first bare-tube area among the other sections.

  • For the past few decades the vapor compression cycle with a solution circuit (VCCSC) has been known to provide high efficiency and variable capacity. In this study performance of a VCCSC cycle is examined through computer simulation. In the simulation heat exchangers were modelled by specifying UA or effectiveness values while the compressor performance was specified by an isentropic efficiency. Aqua/ammonia solution was chosen as the working fluid which can be used in the high temperature range. The results show that there exists an optimum operation condition which is dependent upon the temperatures of the external heat transfer fluids(HTFs). Besides the HTF\`s temperature, the maximum system pressure and the size of the solution heat exchanger are shown to have an influence on the optimum operation condition. Finally, as compared to a simple vapor compression heat pump with HFC134a, the COP of the VCCSC is shown to be 2∼22% higher.
