과전류에 의해 단락된 전선의 결정성장 특성에 관한 연구 (Study of the Characteristics and Crystal Growth of a shorted Wire by Overcurrent)

  • 전선에 정격이상의 과전류가 흐르게 되면 온도가 상승하고 전선피복이 열화되어 단락현상이 발생한다. 과전류의 크기에 따라 전선의 온도 상한치는 변화하며, 각각의 온도 상한치에서 단락이 발생할 때, 단락온도와 전선표면온도간 온도차로 인해 응고과정에서 냉각속도 차이가 발생한다. 이때 용융단면에 형성되는 수지상 조직의 패턴특징이 상이하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 과전류 크기에 따라 변화하는 전선온도의 상한치를 측정하고, 이때 단락을 발생시켜 수지상의 2차 가지 간격(Dendrite Arm Spacing : DAS)을 분석하여 수치를 정량화 하였다. 실험결과, 과전류 크기가 커짐에 따라 전선온도의 상한치는 증가하였으며, 전선온도가 높아질수록 2차 가지 간격이 증가하는 것을 확인하였다.

연속파형 Nd:YAG 레이저를 이용한 Hastelloy C-276의 용접특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Welding Characteristics of Hastelloy C-276 using a Continuous Wave Nd:YAG Laser)

  • Hastelloy C-276, corrosion resistant alloy at high temperature, is used in chemical plant and power generation industry. In this study, process parameter of laser welding for welding property in Hastelloy C-276 using a continuous wave Nd:YAG laser was studied. As the result of experiment, laser welding did not show segregation or crack at heat affected zone compared to conventional GTWA welding. The melting zone showed cell dendritic structure along with welding line. In addition, planer front solidification is occurred from welding structure, and it was progressed to cellular solidification. Optimal process parameter for butt welding was 1.2kW and 2.0 m/min for laser power and welding speed, respectively. While heat input, output density, tensile stress, and longitudinal strain was $441.98{\times}103$ J/cm2, $29.553{\times}103$ W/cm2, 768 MPa, and 0.689, respectively. Lap welding of the same material showed greater discrepancy in tensile property during 1 line and 2 line welding. For 1 line welding, tensile stress was about 320 MPa, and 2 line showed slightly larger tensile stress. However, strain was decreased by 20%. From this result, lap welding of the same material, Hastelloy C-276, with 2 line welding is considered to be more effective process than 1 line welding with consideration of mechanical property.

A Study on the Formation of Imperfections in CW $CO_2$Laser Weld of Diamond Saw Blade

  • The main purpose of this study was to investigate the formation mechanisms of imperfections such as irregular humps, outer cavity and inner cavity in the laser fusion zone of diamond saw blade. Laser beam welding was conducted to join two parts of blade; mild steel shank and Fe-Co-Ni sintered tip. The variables were beam power and travel speed. The microstructure and elements distributions of specimens were analyzed with SEM, AES, EPMA and so on. It was found that these imperfections were responded to heat input. Irregular humps were reduced in 10.4∼l7.6kJ/m heat input range. However there were no clear evidences, which could explain the relations between humps formation and heat input. The number of outer cavity and inner cavity decreased as heat input was increased. Considering both possible defects formations mechanisms, it could be thought that outer cavity was caused by insufficient refill of keyhole, which was from rapid solidification of molten metal and fast molten metal flow to the rear keyhole wall at low heat input. More inner cavities were found near the interface of the fusion zone and sintered segment and in the bottom of the fusion zone. Inner cavity was mainly formed in the upper fusion zone at high heat input whereas was in the bottom at low heat input. Inner cavity was from trapping of coarsened preexist pores in the sintered tip and metal vapor due to rapid solidification of molten metal before the bubbles escaped.

Micro-Porous Ceramics Using directionally $MgAl_2O_4/MgO$ eutectic crystals

  • Novel process was tried to obtain micro-porous ceramic body containing continuous pore channel. $MgAl_2O_4/MgO$ eutectic fibers and rods have been grown successfully by the micro-pulling-down method, and the microstructures and optical characterizations of grown crystals were performed. $MgAl_2O_4/MgO$ eutectic fibers of $0.3{\sim}1mm$ in diameter and about 500 mm in length, and the rods having 5 mm in diameter with approximately 60 mm in length have been grown with the $6{\sim}120mm/hr$ of growth speed. The eutectic fibers showed homogeneous microstructure in which MgO fiber aligned to the growth direction in the $MgAl_2O_4$ (spinel) matrix. The grown crystals looked semitransparency under naked eyes. Optical and orientational characterizations were performed. The second phase of MgO (periclase) was easily removed by selective etching with hydrochloric acid, and then porous bodies were obtained.

인코넬 713C 합금의 레이저 용접성 평가 (Evaluation of the Laser Weldability of Inconel 713C alloy)

  • During welding of Ni based superalloy, hot cracking was usually happen in the fusion zone of a weld. In this study, the laser weldability of Inconel 713C alloy for the turbocharger wastegate valve (WGV) was evaluated with various welding conditions, such as laser power, welding speed, shielding gas. Welding conditions were optimized by bead-on-plate (BOP) and butt joint welding. For the evaluation of laser weldability, bead shapes and weld microstructures were investigated and tensile test was conducted. The fracture surfaces were investigated for the understanding the cause of the fracture.

  • Three-dimensional finite-element-based numerical model of turbulent flow, heat transfer, macroscopic solidification and inclusion trajectory in a continuos steel slab caster was developed Turbulence was incorporated using the Improved Low-Re turbulence model with positive preserving approach. The mushy region was modeled as the porous media with average effective viscosity. A series of simulations was carried out to investigate the effects of the casting speed, the slab size, the delivered superheat the immersion depth of the SEN on the transport phenomena. In the absence of any known experimental data related to velocity profiles, the numerical predictions of the solidified profile on a caster was compared with breakouts data and a good agreement was found.

전자빔 용접된 고장력 알루미늄 합금 용접부의 고온균열 발생 및 특성에 관한 연구

  • This study was performed to evaluate basic characteristics of electron beam weldability for high strength aluminum alloys. The aluminum alloys used were A5083 and A6N01, and A7N01. The principal welding process parameters, such as accelerating voltage, beam current, welding speed and chamber pressure were investigated. The dimension and microstructure of welds were evaluated with OLM, and SEM (EDAX). In addition, weldability variation(cracking) due to process parameters was also evaluated. The degree of cracking in the EB fusion zone appears to be affected mainly by aspect ratio, such that as aspect ratio increases the cracking tendency also increases. The alloying element itself may also affect the hot cracking resistance, but its role is considered to be indirect effect such that the relatively higher vaporization pressure elements of Zn and Mg give deeper weld penetration and thus results in greater cracking tendency.

  • A computer program has been developed for analyzing the two-dimensional unsteady conservation equations for transport phenomena in the ool region of direct rolling with semi-solid metal in order to describe the velocity and temperature, and the solidification process of the semi-solid metal. The energy equations of cooling roll is solved simultaneously with semi-solid metal in order consider heat transfer through the cooling roll. The FDM(finite difference method) and FEM(finite element method) are used in region of pool and roll, respsctively, to reduce computing time and to improve accuracy of calculation. In the present study, influence of solid fraction and casting speed are investigated in a point of view of strip formability with semi-solid metal.

  • Ash melting chamber is one of the key facility of the pyrolysis-melting incineration system, and it should be designed and operated very carefully for avoiding solidification of slag. In this study, an example of numerical and experimental scale-up process of the melting chamber, in which high speed air is injected to the molten slag and generates bubbles, which enhances agitation of the slag and char combustion, is presented. Cold flow test, combustion and melting test in a lab-scale (30 kg/hr) chamber and a pilot scale (200 kg/hr) chamber. Minimum energy for maintaining molten slag is derived, and it was found that the molten slag can be maintained efficiently by concentrating heat into the bubbling slag.

  • Rapid Prototyping (RP) techniques have their unique characteristics according to the working principles: stair-stepped surface of parts due to layer-by-layer stacking, low build speed caused by line-by-line solidification to build one layer, and additional post processing to improve surface roughness, so it is required very high cost to introduce and to maintain RP apparatus. The objective of this study is to develop and design a new RP process, Variable Lamination Manufacturing using expandable polystyrene foam sheet as part material (VLM-S), which can make up for the disadvantage of existing techniques, and to develop an apparatus to implement the process. In order to examine the possibility of practical utilization of the proposed VLM-S process for prototyping of a general three-dimensional shape, an auto-shift lever knob and a pyramid shape were fabricated.
