This work was intended to modify the solidification structure of high speed steel roll material for hot strip mill, by the introduction of alloying elements designed to form primary carbide dispersions via melt treatment procedure. Solidification structure was modified by the melt treatment with titanium and distribution. This modifying effect could be attributed to the fact that the nuclie formed at high temperature upon inoculation induce the formation of fine equiaxed grain and primary carbide during solification, which is also likely to be responsible for the fact that TiC acts as effective nuclie for primary VC solidification.
The influences of B and Si in the filler metals on microstructure and isothermal solidification during transient liquid-phase (TLP) bonding of a nitrogen-containing duplex stainless steel with MBF-30 (Ni-4.5wt.%Si-3.2wt.%B) and MBF-35 (Ni-7.3wt.%Si-2.2wt.%B), were studied at the temperature range of $1030-1090^{\circ}C$ with various times from 60 s to 3600 s under a vacuum of approximately $10^{-5}$ Torr. In case of the former, BN, $Ni_3B$ and $Ni_3Si$ precipitates were formed in the bonding region. BN and $Ni_3Si$ secondary phases were present in the joint for the latter case. The formation of $Ni_3B$ within the joint centerline is dependent on B content. The morphology of $Ni_3Si$ is dominated by Si concentration. A difference between the times for complete isothermal solidification obtained by the experiments and the conventional TLP bonding diffusion model was observed when using MBF-35. According to the simulated results, the isothermal solidification completion time for MBF-35 case was smaller than that in MBF-30. However, this experimental value obtained using MBF-35 was notably larger than that obtained using MBF-30. Isothermal solidification of liquid MBF-30 is controlled by the first isothermal solidification regime dependent on B diffusion model, whereas that of liquid MBF-35 experiences two isothermal solidification regimes and is mainly controlled by the second isothermal solidification dependent on Si diffusion model. In addition, only if Si content exceeds a critical value, the slower 2nd solidification regime will commence.
In this study, Microstructure and hardness of 1st layer with crystallographic orientation were investigated about solidification structure in multipass weld using high Mn-Ni flux cored wire. Microstructure of solidification consisted of austenite matrix and a little ${\varepsilon}-phase$ in grain boundaries. Orientation of grains was usually (001), (101), (111). According to crystallographic orientation, morphology of primary dendrite was different. The depletion of Fe and the segregation of Mn, C, Ni, Si, Cu, Cr, O were found along the grain boundaries. The area of segregation was wide with an order of (001), (101), (111) grains. And hardness of grains with crystallographic orientation increased with an order of (001), (101), (111) grains because of the segregation along dendrite boundary.

A numerical analysis of solid-liquid phase change was performed on a heat transfer module which consisted of circulating water path (BRINE), heat transfer plate (HTP) and phase change material (PCM) layers, such as high temperature PCM (HPCM, $78{\sim}79^{\circ}C$) and low temperature PCM (LPCM, $28{\sim}29^{\circ}C$). There were five arrangements, consisting of BRINE, HTP, LPCM and HPCM layers in the heat transfer module. The time and heat transfer rate for melting/solidification was compared to their arrangements, against each other. As results, the numerical time without convection was longer than the experimental one for melting/solidification. Moreover, the melting/solidification with the BRINE I-LPCM-BRINE II-HPCM arrangement was faster(10 hours) than the others; HPCM-BRINE-LPCM, BRINE I-HPCM-LPCM-BRINE II one.
Among the forest road pavement methods, the majority of current constructions utilize concrete pavements but it has disadvantages as follows: many cracked concrete pavements generated by the erosion of underlying soil layers, could not be used as forest roads in steep slope during winter, and cement contains hazardous chemicals (hexavalent chromium, etc.). In order to supplement the limitations of the use of concrete pavement, this study was conducted to investigate the operation process and cost, the strength and compaction of the experimental forest road pavement(85 m) utilizing eco-friendly solidification material at Goryeong-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do. The work elements of experimental forest road paving were classified into: preparation, Roadbed excavation, Roadbed grading, subgrade compaction, form work, collection and selection of site soil, mixing site soil and eco-friendly solidification material, paving by eco-friendly solidification material, compaction by vibrating roller and curing. The result of economic analysis using construction cost shows that for concrete costs total to $38,681won/m^3$ while for the eco-friendly paving material it is $38,245won/m^3$. Thus the construction costs for concrete and the eco-friendly paving material are similar. And the results of the Schmidt Hammer test for strength analysis by curing period are 10.5-13.5 MPa for 7 days, 18.1-22.7 MPa for 14 days, and 20.8-23.0 MPa for 28 days.
Contact material is widely used as electrical parts. Ag-Cd alloy has a good wear resistance and stable contact resistance. But the disadvantages of Ag-Cd alloy are coarse Cd oxides and harmful metal, Cd. To solve the disadvantages of that, Ag-Sn alloy that has stable and fine Sn oxide at high temperature has been developed. In order to optimize Sn amount that affects the formation of the oxide layer on the surface, we worked for the microstructures and properties of Ag-Sn material fabricated by rapid solidification process. The experimental procedure were melting using high frequency induction, melt spinning, and internal oxidation. We have shown that the optimized Sn amount for high hardness is 7.09 wt%Sn. Surface oxide layer forms when Sn amount is over 9.45 wt%. The size of Sn oxide is 20 nm.

Sequential lateral solidification has recently become an option for manufacturing LTPS TFT LCDs owing to the availability of production equipment. Compared to the currently established ELA crystallization method, it is characterized by its low running costs and the high quality microstructures that can be obtained. In this presentation, we will review the production-related developments as well as elaborate on recent research activities that deal with a number of crystallization schemes that can be beneficial for future active-matrix display products.

Heat transfer phenomena during inward melting and solidification process of the phase change material were studied expertimentally. The phase change medium was 99% pure n-docosane paraffin ($C_{22}H_{46}$). The solid-liquid interface motion during phase change was recorded photographically. Measurements were made on the temperature, the solid-liquid interface, the melted or frozen mass and the various energy components stored or extracted from the cylinder wall. For melting, the experimental results reaffirmed the dominant role played by the conduction at an early stage, by the natural convection at longer time. For solidification, natural convection effects in the superheated liquid were modest and were confined to short freezing time. Although the latent energy is the largest contributor to the total stored or extracted energy, the aggregate sensible energies can make a significant contribution, especially at large cylinder wall superheating or subcooling, large initial phase change material subcooling or superheating.

The possibility of using bulk talc as molding material was reviewed and tested with the measurement of thermal properties and computer simulations. The measured thermal conductivity and heat diffusivity($k{\rho}c$) of talc were $2.4W/m^{\circ}C$ and $6.6{\times}10^6J^2/m^4^{\circ}C^2s$, respectively. Thermal properties of talc could be ranked between those of sand mold and iron mold. Talc transforms into cristobalite and enstatite at $910^{\circ}C$, During the transformation volume and structure change, cracks appear on the surface and distortion occurs. Therefore talc can be used for molding material below $910^{\circ}C$ if carefully treated. Computer simulation was carried out to test whether talc insert could promote directional solidification in sand mold and iron mold. In sand mold, it was possible to achieve directional solidification of thin plate casting with the length to thickness ratio of 15, if both iron insert and talc insert were used. In iron mold, it was possible to achieve directional solidification only with talc insert.

In this study, numerical investigation has been performed on the impingement, spreading and solidification of a coating material droplet impacting onto a solid substrate in the thermal spray process. The numerical model is validated through the comparison of the present numerical result with experimental data fer the flat substrate without surface defects. An analysis of deposition formation on the non-polished substrate with surface defects is also performed. The parametric study is conducted with various surface defect sizes and shapes to examine the effect of surface defects on the impact and solidification of the liquid droplet on the substrate.
