  • The velocity dispersion of surface acoustical wave(SAW) of Si layer/mesh Au/Si substrate was measured by the frequency analysis technique of backward radiation at liquid/solid interface. The difference of backward radiation patterns depending on used transducers (2, 5, 10MHz) confirmed that the backward radiation phenomenon was caused by the energy radiation from SAW generated in surface region. An ultrasonic goniometer was constructed to measure continuously the angular dependence of backscattered intensity. The angular dependences of backward radiation(5MHz) were measured for Ni layer/Al substrate specimens that were bonded by epoxy involving different content of Cu powder. It was known that the width and pattern of backward radiation had informations such as the velocity dispersion, bonding quality and structure of surface region.

  • Magnetic resonance velocimeter (MRV) is a powerful tool to non-invasively measure the velocity of a fluid flow in various fields ranging from medicine to engineering. However, since the demands for accurate measurement in the solid/liquid interface for cardiovascular diseases and porous media increase, the improvement of spatial resolution is required. In this study, a solenoid RF coil is developed for high spatial resolution measurement. The signal-to-noise ratio in solenoid RF coil is increased seventeen times better than that in commercial coil. Moreover, the velocity distribution of Hagen-Poiseuille flow is measured with in-plane resolution of $36{\mu}m$ by $36{\mu}m$ and the accuracy of the measured velocity is compared with theoretical distribution of the laminar flow. Flow rate calculated by MRV is estimated with the flow rate injected by syringe pump.

  • It has been shown that a nanofluid consisting of nanoparticles dispersed in base fluid has much higher effective thermal conductivity than pure fluid. In this study, four kinds of nanofluids such as multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT) in water, CuO in water, SiO2in water, and CuO in ethylene glycol, are produced. Their thermal conductivities are measured by a transient hot-wire method. The thermal conductivity of water-based MWCNT nanofluid is shown to be increased by up to 11.3% at a volume fraction of 0.01. The measured thermal conductivities of MWCNT nanofluids are higher than those calculated with Hamilton-Crosser's model due to neglecting solid-liquid interaction at the interface. The results show that the thermal conductivity enhancement of nanofluids depends on the thermal conductivities of both particles and the base fluid. Stability of nanofluids is estimated by UV-vis spectrum analysis. Stability of nanofluid depends on the type of base fluid and the suspended particles. Also it can be improved in addition of a surfactant.

  • A possibility of production of aluminium matrix composites by using the lost foam process was investigated. Silicon carbide particles, graphite particles, and stainless steel wires were used as reinforcement materials. The reinforcement materials were introduced to the polystyrene to form patterns via injection molding process. The results obtained from this experiment can be summarized as follows. In Al/SiCp system, the particles with the radius of $100{\mu}m$ and over were entrapped in the matrix in the case of upward freezing of which solidification direction was opposite to floating direction of the particles. And few particles were entrapped in the matrix in downward freezing. In Al/graphite system, almost no particles were entrapped in the matrix except the area chill attatched. When the thickness of polystyrene slice was 4mm in Al/stainless steel wire system, the floating tendency of fibers was observed to increase as the distance from the ingate was increased.

  • Transformation of molecular film occurs only usually in air-water interface, 2 dimensions domain's growth and crash are achieved. Organic matter thin film that accumulate molecular film in archaism board only that consist of growth of domain can understand correct special quality of accumulation film supplying information about fine structure and properties of matter of device observing information and so on that is surface forward player and optic enemy using AFM one of SPM application by nano electronics. The stable images are probably due to a strong interaction between the monolayer film and glass substrate. We are unable to obtain molecule resolution in images of the films but did see a marked contrast between images of the bare substrate and those with the network structure film deposited onto it. Formation that prevent when gas phase state and liquid phase state measure but Could know organic matter that molecules form equal and stable film when molecules were not distributed evenly. and accumulated in solid state only.

  • The surfaces of machine components in sliding contact such as bearing, gears and pistons etc. frequently operate under the condition of mixed lubrication due to high load, high speed and slip. These machine components often undergo the inception of scuffing in practical application. The scuffing failure is a critical problem in modern machine components, especially for the requirement of high efficiency and small size. However, it is difficult to find a universal mechanism to explain all scuffing phenomena because there are so many factors affecting the onset of scuffing. In this study, scuffing experiments are conducted using Acoustic Emission(AE) measurement by an indirect sensing approach to detect scuffing failure. Acoustic Emission(AE) signal has been widely utilized to monitor the interaction at the friction interface. Using AE signals we can get an indication about the state of the friction processes, about the quality of solid and liquid layers on the contacting surfaces in real time. The FFT(Fast Fourier Transform) analyses of the AE signal are sued to understand the interfacial interaction and the relationship between the AE signal and the state of contact is presented.

  • Three-dimensional transient simulation of laser-GMA hybrid welding involving multiple physical phenomena is conducted neglecting the interaction effect of laser and arc heat sources. To reproduce the bubble and pore formations in welding process, a new bubble model is suggested and added to the established laser and arc welding models comprehending VOF, Gaussian laser and arc heat source, recoil pressure, arc pressure, electromagnetic force, surface tension, multiple reflection and Fresnel reflection models. Based on the models mentioned above, simulations of laser-GMA hybrid butt welding are carried out and besides the molten pool flow, top and back bead formations could be observed. In addition, the laser induced keyhole formation and bubble generation duo to keyhole collapse are investigated. The bubbles are ejected from the molten pool through its top and bottom regions. However, some of those are entrapped by solid-liquid interface and remained as pores. Those bubbles and pores are intensively generated when the absorption of laser power is largely reduced and consequently the full penetration changes to the partial penetration.

  • A numerical analysis on the microstructural evolutions of microcellular and cellular ${\alpha}-aluminum$ phase in the gas-atomized Al-8wt. pct droplets was represented. The 2-dimensional non-Newtonian heat transfer and the dendritic growth theory in the undercooled melt were combined under the assumptions of a point nucleation on droplet surface and the macroscopically smooth solid-liquid interface enveloping the cell tips. It reproduced the main characteristic features of the reported microstructures quite well. It predicted a considerable volume fraction of segregation-free region in a droplet smaller than $l0{\mu}m$ if an initial undercooling larger than 100K is given. The volume fractions of the microcellular region($g_A$) and the sum of the microcellular and cellular region($g_a$) were predicted as functions of the heat transfer coefficient, h and initial undercooling, ${\triangle}T$. It was shown that $g_A$ and $g_a$, in the typical gas-atomization processes with $h=0.1-1.0W/cm^2K$, are dominated by ${\triangle}T$ and h, respectively, but for h larger than $4.0W/cm^2K$, a fully microcellular structure can be obtained irrespective of the initial undercooling.

  • In this study, basic design data which were required for development of highly efficient ice storage system with low temperature latent heat were experimentally obtained. The ice storage system considered in this study was the one that has been widly used in the developed country and called the ice-on-coil type. Using the system, the ice storage performance for various design parameters which were the flow direction and the inlet temperature of the secondary fluid was tested. In addition, the timewise variation of the interface profiles between the solid and the liquid were visualized, and the heat transfer characteristics of the Phase Change Material(PCM) in the ice storage tank were Investigated. During the freezing processes in the ice storage tank with several vertical tubes, decrease of the heat transfer area and the heat resistance of the ice layer made the increasing rate of ice packing factor(IPF) less. The total freezing energy for the upward flow of the secondary fluid was higher than that for the downward flow. The average ice storage efficiency for the upward flow of the secondary fluid was higher than that for the downward flow.
