This study was carried out to study solid-liquid mixture hydraulic transport of solid particles in a horizontal and inclined screw-feeders with rotating. This study is about the amount of the alteration amount of the material transportation for regular transportation. In this study a clear acrylic pipe was used in order to observe the movement of solid particles. Relates to the angle, rpm and ratio of pitch ; finding the optimum condition and knowing about designing the screw feeders shape. As a result, we found the suitable rpm and a suitable angle. According to the experiment, the best rpm and angle are 100-200rpm and $10^{\circ}$, respectively.

  • KSLV-I KM plume including alumina particle has been studied using the continuum solver. Alumina particles are assumed to have 7 different diameters, and the specific ratio of the plume gas is assumed to be 1.2, with which the internal nozzle flow characteristics are similar to those of the chemically equilibrium analysis results. The results showed that the expansion angle of the particles is smaller than that of the gas phase, and that the big sized alumina particles are gathered in the plume core and the expansion angles of the big sized particles are smaller than those of the light particles. When the emissivity of the particles are assumed to be 0.1, the radiative heat flux is equivalent to those measured during the flight test of KSLV-I.

  • Computer Automated Radioactive Particle Tracking (CARPT) technique has been successfully utilized to measure the velocity profiles and mixing parameters in different multiphase flow systems where a single radioactive tracer is used to track the tagged phase. However, many industrial processes use a wide range of particles with different physical properties where solid particles could vary in size, shape and density. For application in such systems, the capability of current single tracer CARPT can be advanced to track more than one particle simultaneously. Tracking multiple particles will thus enable to track the motion of particles of different size shape and density, determine segregation of particles and probing particle interactions. In this work, a newly developed Multiple Radioactive Particle Tracking technique (M-RPT) used to track two different radioactive tracers is demonstrated. The M-RPT electronics was developed that can differentiate between gamma counts obtained from the different radioactive tracers on the basis of their gamma energy peak. The M-RPT technique was validated by tracking two stationary and moving particles (Sc-46 and Co-60) simultaneously. Finally, M-RPT was successfully implemented to track two phases, solid and liquid, simultaneously in three phase slurry bubble column reactors.

  • As a basic research of developing two-interconnected fluidized beds system for selective solid circulation, a solid separator was developed to separate fine and coarse particles by means of particle size difference with particle size separation system equipped with metal screen. The effects of gas velocity, height of solid separator, and separation area on the solid separation rate were investigated as well. The solid separation rate increased as the gas velocity, height of solid separator, and separation area increased. As the gas velocity and height of the solid separator increased, the variation of the solid separation rate was consistent with that of bubble size. Consequently, coarse($212{\sim}300{\mu}m$) and fine($63{\sim}106{\mu}m$) particles were separated using the solid separator and the solid separation rate was ranged from 4.4 to 127 g/min. We also proposed two interconnenced fluidized beds system for sorption enhanced water-gas shift process equipped with the developed solid separator.

  • This study attempts to analyse the solid mixing in the feeder and the packing effect for pressure fluctuations in the fluidized bed. To study the mixing characteristics of solid in vibrating feeder for the stable operations of fluidized combustion, the system consisted of two groups of particles such that fine particles were located on the top of the coarse particles before vibratory mixing had started. The effects of packing materials on the pressure fluctuations in a fluidized bed were analysed by using a statistical method to interpret the behavior of fluidized bed. The experiments were carried out in a fluidized bed of 6.7cm-ID, and the experimental variables were particle sizes, of 115 to 1,015$\mu\textrm{m}$ in diameter and the multi-sized particles haying Rosin-Rammler and Gaussian distributions. The settled bed heights of particles to diameter ratios (L/D) were ranged from 0.5 to 2.0. And fluidizing of particles was carried out by air. The packing materials used were screen packing, and the properties of the pressure fluctuations in the fluidized bed were measured by a differential pressure transducer. The properties of the pressure fluctuations calculated were the mean, the standard deviation, and the major frequency of the power spectral density functions. From the characteristics of fluidizing, it was found that the standard deviation of pressure fluctuations could be effectively used to explain the fluidized phenomena, and the packing materials affected severely the properties of the pressure fluctuations. As a result, from the interpretation by spectral analysis, the effects of measuring radius of pressure fluctuations on standard deviation were constant in the case of the fluidized bed with and without packing materials. However, the effects of measuring the height of pressure fluctuations on standard deviations were linear increasing for the fluidized bed with packing materials, but were constant for the fluidized bed without packing materials at 4.5cm above the gas distributor. The major frequency of pressure fluctuations was found to be nearly independent of fluidized system. Also, the major frequency of pressure fluctuations decreased with increasing packing size, and it had maximum value at 10% of the packing amount.

  • Effects of operating variables on solid separation rate in two-interconnected fluidized beds system for selective solid circulation have been investigated. Coarse(212~300 or $425{\sim}600{\mu}m$) and fine($63{\sim}106{\mu}m$) particles were separated using the solid separator and the solid separation rate was ranged from 66 to 987 g/min. The solid separation rate increased as the gas velocity through the solid injection nozzle, solid height, diameter of solid injection nozzle, particle size of coarse particles, aperture of the solid separator, and weight fraction of fines in the solid mixture increased. However, the effect of the fluidization velocity was negligible.

  • The effect of various thermomechanical treatments on the structure and rheological behaviour of Al-6.2wt%Si alloy in its solidification range were investigated using a Searle type high temperature viscometer. During continuous cooling, the viscosity increases gradually with increasing fraction of solidified alloy, until a critical fraction of solidified alloy is reached above which the viscosity sharply increases. The viscosity of the slurry, at a given volume fraction wolid, decreased with increasing shear rate. The size and morphology of primary solid particles during stirring is influenced strongly by shear rates, cooling rates, volume fraction and stirring time of solid. Morphological changes during stirring as a function of solid volume fractions, shear rate and processing time were also reported. In this study, the size of primary solid particles in these alloys consistently increases and the it`s aspect ratio decrease with the increase in fraction solid and decrease in shear rate. Crystal morphology changes from rosette type to spheroid type with the increase in shear rate and solid fraction.

  • An investigation is conducted to study a solid-liquid mixture vertically upward hydraulic transport of solid particles by non-Newtonian fluids in the Mud system. Rheology of particulate suspensions in viscoelastic fluids is of importance in many applications such as particle removal from surfaces, transport of proppants in fractured reservoir and cleaning of drilling holes, etc. In this study a clear acrylic pipe was used in order to observe the movement of solid particles. Annular velocities varied from 0.4 m/s to 1.2 m/s. The mud systems which were utilized included aqueous solution of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) solutions. Main parameters considered in the study were inner-pipe rotary speed, fluid flow regime and particle injection rate. Solid volumetric concentration and pressure drops were measured for the various parameters such as inclination angle, flow rate, and rotational speed of inner cylinder.
