  • The isolated strain, SC2-1 was Gram-positive, catalase positive, facultatively anaerobic, oxidase negative, motile and small rods. The strain utilized sucrose, dextrose, fructose, mannitol and maltose as a sole carbon and energy source and sodium chloride required for the bacteria growth. The radical scavenging activity of the culture supernatants was determined by DPPH (1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) method. This bacterium was identified based on cellular fatty acids analysis and 16S rDNA sequencing then named Exiguobacterium sp. SC2-1. The optimum culture conditions for production of antioxidant were $25^{\circ}C,$ pH 7.8 and NaCl concentration were 4%. The modified optimal medium compositions were maltose 2.5% (w/v), yeast extract 1.5% (w/v) and $KH_2PO_4$ 0.05% (w/v). Free radical scavenging activity of under optimal culture conditions were 93%.

  • This paper deals with the implementation of walking for a humanoid robot by ZMP measurement using wireless sensor network. ZMP is measured by FSR sensors which are mounted at each corner of a sole. The wireless sensor network collects the sensor data according and exchanges robot information between host PC and a robot system. The master controller mounted on robot body receives trajectory data from the host PC via sensor network and drives the joint motor based on trajectory data. The time scheduler of the master controller controls the events at the ratio of 100ms. With this configuration, the walking of the humanoid robot KHR-1 could be realized successfully.

  • This paper investigated policies that drive the sustainable management of Ivorian forest which disappear at an annual rate of 250000 hectares. Based on an inter-temporal model for optimum allocation of forest land to three competing uses, the article found that sustainability depends on the incentive structure, of which forest taxes and fees are a key, though obviously not the sole, component. The study proposed to increase the area fee level by accounting for environmental externalities generated by forest harvesters and farmers. The paper showed that the area fee is a decreasing function of the forest natural rate of regeneration and the reconversion rate of agricultural surfaces. Finally, at the given forest natural rate of regeneration and the reconversion rate of agricultural surfaces, the model argued that the area fee need to be progressive (arithmetic progression) in the context of ecological equilibrium break while it should remain constant in normal situation.

  • This paper investigates the spray angle and the outline shape of the liquid sheet discharged from a simplex swirl nozzle. A theoretical model was proposed and the corresponding experimental data were presented for comparison. Axial and tangential velocities and thickness of the liquid sheet at the nozzle exit were also predicted. The liquid sheet thickness at nozzle exit, as well as the discharge coefficient, turned out to be a sole function of the swirl Reynolds number. However, the axial and tangential velocities at nozzle exit and the spray angle could not be expressed only with the swirl Reynolds number. The predicted outline shape and spray angle of the liquid sheet agreed reasonably with the measured data.

  • This study was conducted to determine the protein requirement of ayu (Plecoglossus altivelis). Two replicate groups of fish initially averaging 6.6 g were fed the five isocaloric diets containing different protein level from 29% to 57% in a flow-through freshwater system for 25 days. White fish meal was used as a sole protein source. Weight gain and feed efficiency of fish increased significantly with dietary protein level up to 43% (P<0.05) with no additional response above this level. Protein and lipid retention, moisture, protein and lipid contents of body were not affected by dietary protein levels (P>0.05). Daily protein intake increased significantly with dietary protein level, whereas protein efficiency ratio of fish fed the 57% dietary protein decreased (P<0.05). The data obtained in this study indicate that a 43% dietary protein level could be recommended for the optimum growth of ayu.

  • This paper treats the implementation of a statically stable control system for a biped walking robot with 10 degrees-of-freedom. Statically stable walking of a biped robot can be realized by keeping the center of mass (COM) inside the sole of the supporting foot (or feet) during single-support or double-support phases. We predetermined five static positions for walking based on the COM method. The positions can be represented by the length of the gait, the width between the feet, the height of the foot and two parameters in the hip movement. With the five parameters, we calculated the position trajectory. And we got the angular trajectories of 10 joints from the posit ion trajectory using the position tracking control and neural network. By tracking the angular trajectories, the robot can walk maintaining stability. We implemented walking of a biped robot throught the above ...

  • 26 bacterial strains capable of growing on Terephthalic acid (TPA) in minimal medium were isolated from soil and wastewater by selective enrichment culture, and among them, one isolate which was the best in the cell growth and TPA degradation was selected and identified as Pseudomonas sp. T-1 by its characteristics. Cell growth almost revealed a stationary phase at 24 hrs after cultivation. Cell growth dramatically increased in a minimal medium containing 0.1% of TPA as a sole carbon source and TPA was not detected any more at 80 hrs after cultivation. Therefore, it is suggested that Pseudomonas sp. T-1 could be effectively used for the biological treatment of wastewater containing TPA.

  • This paper aims at the development of shoes measuring the performance of walking or running, which is equipped with electronic devices. In the in-sole of the shoes, a piezoelectric sensor is inserted for measuring the number of steps and the speed of walking. The measured signals are processed by the one-chip microprocessor and related electronic devices. Using the data, the momentum and calories of walking and running are calculated, and the results are transmitted to the displaying system composed of LCD by the RF telecommunication system.

  • The monopropellant hydrazine thrusters are widely used for the satellite on-board propulsion system fulfilling various missions in space. They have outstanding features caused by the nearly unlimited restart capability and the very high credibility. The sole monopropellant thruster used at precent in nation is MRE-1 that is a standard component of NASA. It can produce 4.45 N of nominal thrust. Due to the glowing complexity with a satellite mission, the needs for thrusters of the diverse performance are being increased. The numerical simulation could give useful information to develop a new type thruster instead of the experiments performed previously. Therefore it is critical to make a reliable computer code to prepare design change of a thruster. In this paper, the performance analysis and validation of the satellite monopropellant hydrazine thruster currently used is accomplished as the preliminary study to serve valuable data for future design change.

  • A study of the possible axisymmetric modes that propagate at low frequencies in buried, water-filled pipes is presented. It is well known that for a vacuum-pipe-vacuum system the sole non-torsional axisymmetric mode that exists at low frequencies is the fundamental L(0,1) mode. When a pipe is filled with water and still surrounded by a vacuum it is also known that another mode then appears which at low frequencies is characterized by predominantly axial water-borne displacements. In addition to these modes. this paper explores two other, less well known axisymmetric modes whose exitence depends on the acoustic properties of the outer medium that surrounds a pipe. The predicted characteristics of these modes are presented and the likelihood of them propagating over any significant distance in a buried water pipe is discussed.
