The angle of solar panels is calculated using solar radiation model for the efficient solar power generation. In ideal state, the time of maximum solar radiation is represented from 12:08 to 12:40 during a year at Gangneung and it save rage time is12:23. The maximum solar radiation is 1012$W/m^2$ and 708$W/m^2$ inc lear sky and cloudy sky, respectively. Solar radiation is more sensitive to North-South (N-S) slope angle than East-West (E-W) azimuth angle. Daily solar radiation on optimum angle of solar panel is higher than that on horizontal surface except for 90 days during summer. In order to apply to the real atmosphere, the TMY (typical meteorological Year) data which obtained from the 22 solar sites operated by KMA(Korea Meteorological Administration) during 11 years(2000 to 2010) is used as the input data of solar radiation model. The distribution of calculated solar radiation is similar to the observation, except in Andong, where it is overestimated, and in Mokpo and Heuksando, where it is underestimated. Statistical analysis is performed on calculated and observed monthly solar radiation on horizontal surface, and the calculation is overestimated from the observation. Correlationis 0.95 and RMSE (Root Mean Square Error) is10.81 MJ. The result shows that optimum N-S slope angles of solar panel are about $2^{\circ}$ lower than station latitude, but E-W slope angles are lower than ${\pm}1^{\circ}$. There are three types of solar panels: horizontal, fixed with optimum slope angle, and panels with tracker system. The energy efficiencies are on average 20% higher on fixed solar panel and 60% higher on tracker solar panel than compared to the horizontal solar panel, respectively.
Although many researches of simulation programs to predict climate under the current climate change have been performed but more detailed studies of weather date which might influence the load of buildings seem insufficient. In this study, in Incheon are analyzed IES (Integrated Environmental Solutions)6.0, Ecotect 2010, EnergyPlus v4.0's IWEC file and ISO-TRY, the Korean standard weather data provided by the Korean Solar Energy Society for direct normal radiation which is used in load calculation programs. The results show that the radiation of the programs is the same as that of direct normal radiation per month but has a mere difference, compared with the radiation per hour and IWEC has also 77.12% when compared with ISO-TRY, meaning that it could affect load values of buildings when applied to them. And in case of ISO-TRY, it could be judged that the application of test reference year applied by the data measured has higher reliability than IWEC file.
The temperature on steel structures is larger than the ambient air temperature under solar radiation and the temperature distribution on the affected structure is non-uniform and complicated. The steel tube, as a main structural member, has been investigated through experiment and numerical analysis. In this study, the temperature distribution on a properly designed steel tube under solar radiation is measured. A finite element transient thermal analysis method is presented and verified by the experimental results and a series of parametric studies are carried out to investigate the influence of various geometric properties and orientation on the temperature distribution. Furthermore, a simplified approach is proposed to predict the temperature distribution of steel tube. Based on both the experimental and the numerical results, it is concluded that the solar radiation has a significant effect on the temperature distribution of steel tubes. Under the solar radiation, the temperature of steel tubes is about $20.6^{\circ}C$ higher than the ambient air temperature. The temperature distribution of steel tubes is sensitive to the steel solar radiation absorption, steel tube diameter and orientation, but insensitive to the solar radiation reflectance and thickness of steel tube.

Recently the Predicted Mean Vote (PMV) has been used as an important index to evaluate the degree of the indoor thermal comfort in modern residential buildings. It is known that the PMV is mainly affected by four major factors, which are the air temperature, the air velocity, the humidity and the mean radiant temperature (MRT). Through the numerical calculation of the temperature and the modeling of the mean radiant temperature considering the solar radiation, we proposed the new modeling strategies of the mean radiant temperature and investigated the PMV index and evaluated the MRT. Also, we compared the numerical results with the experimental values. As the results, we found out that the MRT is affected by the wall temperature and the solar radiation. We also knew that the new modeling strategies of the mean radiant temperature is a more correct way of PMV calculation. Especially, the new modeling is necessary for the spaces like an atrium and large rooms with windows mainly influenced by solar radiation.
In this study, a simulation program was developed with heat transfer model in the thermal storage tank for a solar collector and burner combined heating and hot water supply system. Analysis was conducted with variation of operating condition and schedule to analyze performance of a hot water supply and panel heating system with a solar collector and burner combined thermal storage tank. The simulation program is divided two sections. One part is calculation of temperature variation of water which flows through the panel in the floor for heating of the residential house during 24 hours, and the other part is heat transfer calculation for the reaction time to get desired water temperature in the thermal storage tank. As results, light oil consumption and system performance during operation period were analyzed with variation of climate condition and with or without solar collector. Most of the case, oil could be saved about from 24 to 41% with installing the solar collector. The performance of the system is more dependent on radiation time of the solar collector rather than the intensity of the solar radiation which was adopted for the climate analysis.
This study presents the calculation of evapotranspiration using estimated daily incoming solar radiation based on maximum daily temperature and minimum daily temperature. The Thornton and Running method(1999) was used to estimate daily incoming solar radiation and then the resulting solar radiation was compared with the measurements. It showed that the estimated daily solar radiation was within reasonable accuracy. In turn, the estimated daily solar radiation was applied to calculate the daily evapotranspiration using the Priestly-Taylor equation and Penman equation and the general results were that evapotranspiration was overestimated in the Priestly-Taylor equation but that Penman was a good estimator with this approach. It is encouraging that it is possible to use this approach, because the required historical data for its estimation are not extensively available and it is not easy to access the meteorological stations in most areas. The calculated eyapotranspiration was compared with that of Hargreaves which was based on daily temperature, and gives us some intuition in terms of engineering.
Estimation of typical solar radiation is very important for the calculations concerning many solar applications. But solar radiation measurements are not easily available because of the expensive measuring equipment and techniques required. Accordingly, for regions where no solar radiation is measured, solar radiation need to be estimated using other meteorological data. However, currently in Korea, there is no study on how to do this. In this paper, the global radiation of the six major cities in South Korea where the global radiation is measured using comparatively simple CRM model was calculated compared and analyzed. The comparison between the original coefficient and the site-fitted coefficient for these cities are as follows. Differences between the site-fitted coefficient and the original coefficient for six cities are small. Except for Gwangju, both calculations show strong correlation. In case of Seoul, the $R^2$(coefficient of determination) were 0.747 and 0.749. In case of Busan and Daegu the figures were 0.817, 0.819 and 0.820, 0.821 respectively. For Gwangju, these were 0.618 and 0.622, Thus, the site-fitted coefficients were slightly higher for these four cities. On the other hand, Daejeon and Incheon was reported 0.773, 0.772 and 0.785, 0.783, respectively.
The flow and heat transfer characteristics inside a solar chimney power plant system are analyzed in this article. 3-D model with the $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence closure was developed. In this model, to solve the radiative transfer equation the discrete ordinates radiation model was implemented, using a two-band radiation model. To simulate radiation effects from the sun's rays, the solar ray tracing algorithm was coupled to the calculation via a source term in the energy equation. Simulations were carried out for a system with the geometry parameters of the Manzanares power plant. Based on the numerical results, the velocity and temperature distributions were illustrated and the results were validated by comparing with experimental data of the Manzanares prototype power plant. Moreover, temperature profile of the ground surface of the system was illustrated.
The absorbing rate of solar irradiation on the surface of an absorbing tube in a glass evacuated solar collector is numerically investigated. Four different shapes of the absorbing tubes are considered, and the absorbed solar irradiation on the surface is calculated for several distances between the absorbing tubes and the incidence angle of solar beam radiation. From the calculation, it is known that the absorbing rate of solar irradiation on the tube surfaces depends upon the shape and the arrangement of absorbing tube and the incidence angle.
Since most of the existing CFD simulation about thermal environment was limited as indoor environment, it is not appropriate to adopt the same method for external thermal environment, because the solar radiation highly affect the outdoor thermal environment. Thus, in case of assessing the outdoor thermal environment, the radiation calculation is very important. In this study, as a new method to evaluate the outdoor thermal environment, coupled simulation of convection and radiation will be proposed.
