The application of photovoltaics into building as integrated building components has been paid more attention worldwide. Photovoltaics or solar electric modules are sol id state devices, directly converting solar radiation into electricity; the process does not require fuel and any moving parts, and produce no pollutants. And the prefab building method is very effective because the pre- manufactured building components is simply assembled to making up buildings in the construction fields especially the sandwich panel. So, this paper describes a design and performance test of the 10kW poly metal pv module(pmpp) system. It is concluded that the prediction of BIPV system's performance should be based on the more accurate PV module installation.
For the efficient utilization of the solar thermal energy to overcome the time gap between to supply and demand, an efficient heat storage technique, especially high density-latent-heat storage system, is necessary. In this study, the performance of a panel type latent heat storage equipment during heat discharging process was analyzed theoretically and experimentally. In order to find out the performance of the system, computer simulation programs were developed by finite difference method. The governing equations were constructed by two dimensional heat conduction model with moving boundary. The results of the experimental and the theoretical analysis were reasonably well agreed. The efficiencies of the double pipe type and the panel type latent heat storage equipment were compared.
UTC(Unglazed Transpired Collector) system has recently emerged as a new solar air heating technology. It is relatively inexpensive because it has not a glazed material. And it demonstrates efficient particularly for the applications in which larger wall area facilities with a high outdoor air requirement. Mathematical algorithm for UTC thermal modeling has been understood for further improvement of the system. EES and TRNSYS model of actual solar wall panel could be developed for computer simulations under other conditions. Computer models could be validated with the measured data from fixed outdoor test cell in KIER(Korea Institute of Energy Research). Major design parameters could be identified such as panel configuration and absorptivity and emissivity values for UTC design.

In recent years, the crisis of energy is growing seriously and also the contamination of ecology has been reverberated as international problem. The social concerns on energy crisis have been growing for the last several years and also the interests in new and renewable energy have been increased. Therefore, in order to solving these problems, this study has dealt with the solar air collector with perforated endothermic panel to increase the indoor temperature. And also, the PV panel for running indoor air circulating fan has used to increase the convective heat transfer. This study is consisted with experiment and numerical parts. From this study, the experimently result is indicated that the inlet air temperature is increased up to 45[$^{\circ}C$]. This temperature is enough to heat the indoor air during winter season. And the numerical calculation results revealed that the mixing effect of convection is increased with increasing in fan circulating power.
Recently the radiant panel heating and cooling system has been regarded as an alternative of low temperature heating and high temperature cooling by applying the renewable energy sources to the heating and cooling of buildings. Especially this system can be used as HVAC system alternatives in super high-rise buildings for energy saving and thermal comfort. Also it can be possible to reduce the plenum space because the minimum ventilation air will be supplied into the space. This study focused on the evaluation the basic characteristics of thermal output in prefabricated steel wall panel system for radiant heating and cooling. In order to evaluate the thermal output according to both various supply water temperatures and supply water flow rates, three-dimensional dynamic heat transfer analysis was performed. As results, for the heating mode, thermal output increased by 26% with the supply temperature increasing by $5^{\circ}C$. The surface temperature of panels range within $1{\sim}3^{\circ}C$. For the cooling mode, thermal output decreased by 18.2% with the supply temperature increasing by $2^{\circ}C$. The surface temperature of panels range within $0.5{\sim}1^{\circ}C$ and it was shown the even temperature distribution.

Solar energy is a viable source to replace fossil fuels. However, challenges associated with site selection for solar panel installation inhibit the uptake of solar energy systems. Expressway slopes offer a potentially attractive alternative for solar panel installation for the following reasons: expressway slopes are vacant public sites, they are abundant (about 4,193km in South Korea), and they are linear in nature. Traditoinally when selecting sites for solar systems conventional surveying methods are employed. Unfortunately, these methods can be dangerous, time consuming, and labor intensive. To overcome these limitations of conventional site selection methodologies, we propose an automated approach using numerical maps. First, contour and expressway polylines are extracted separately from numeric maps. The extracted contour lines are then converted into a digital terrain model; this is used to calculate aspect and slope information. Next, the extracted expressway lines are projected onto a binary image and refined to recover the disconnections, and then applied to create a buffer zone to narrow the search space. Finally, all data sets are overlaid to identify candidate sites for solar panel systems and are visually verified through comparisons with aerial photos.

Solar energy is rapidly gaining notoriety as an important means of expanding renewable energy resources. As such, it is vital that those in engineering fields understand the technologies associated with this area. My project will include the design and construction of a microcontroller-based solar panel tracking system. Solar tracking allows more energy to be produced because the solar array is able to remain aligned to the sun. This system builds upon topics learned in this course. Performance and usefulness of a solar tracking device that was designed and produced in this study was confirmed through experiments.

When nonuniform thermal boundary conditions are imposed on the surface of a circular cylinder in crossflow, the heat transfer characteristics can be quite different compared to what is found for isothermal or constant heat flux boundary conditions. In the present analysis, two kinds of nonuniform boundary conditions along the circumference of the cylinder are considered in a uniform stream of air: step changes and linear profiles. Step changes in temperature can arise on the surface of an external, cylindrical, solar central receiver. As the working fluid(water) flows through the vertical tubes that ring the circumference of Solar One(a solar central receiver in Barstow, California), the solar flux on the receiver heats the water from a liquid to a superheated state. In this process, portions of the receiver panels, and thus portions of the circumference of the cylinder, function as a preheater, boiler, or superheater. Hence the surface temperature can vary significantly around the cylinder. Common engineering practice has been to use an average wall temperature with an isothermal cylinder heat transfer coefficient when estimating the convective loss in these kinds of situations.

It is well known that solar tracking systems can increase the efficiency of exiting solar panels significantly. In this paper, a hybrid solar tracking system has been developed by using both astronomical estimates from a GPS and the image processing results of a camera vision system. A decision making process is also proposed to distinguish current weather conditions using camera images. Based on the decision making results, the proposed hybrid tracking system switches two tracking control methods. The one control method is based on astronomical estimates of the current solar position. And the other control method is based on the solar image processing result. The developed hybrid solar tracking system is implemented on an experimental platform and the performance of the developed control methods are verified.
Hybrid PV/Thermal systems consisting of photovoltaic module and thermal collector can produce the electricity and thermal energy. The solar radiation increases the temperature of PV modules, resulting in the decrease of their electrical efficiency. Accordingly hot air can be extracted from the space between the PV panel and roof, so the efficiency of the PV module increases. The extracted thermal energy can be used in several ways, increasing the total energy output of the system. This study describes a basic type of PV/T collector using water. In order to analyze the performance of the collector, the experiment was conducted. The result showed that the thermal efficiency was 17% average and the electrical efficiency of the PV module was about $10.2%{\sim}11.5%$, both depending on solar radiation, inlet water temperature and ambient temperature.
