  • A noncoherent, broadband, intense pulsed light source has been used for the symptoms of photoaging skin as a nonablative method. The purpose of this study is to investigate the efficacy and tolerability of intense pulsed light in solar lentigines and ephelides on the face. An open study was performed in patients with solar lentigines and ephelides who received three to five treatments of intense pulsed light. Forty-eight percent of patients had more than 50% improvement and 20% had more than 75% improvement. In the group of solar lentigines, 40% of patients showed more than 50% improvement and 16% did more than 75% improvement. Patients with solar 1entigines+ephelides and ephelides responded remarkably with 75% and 71 % of patients having more than 50% improvement, respectively. Intense pulsed light was well tolerated and may be a new modality for the therapy of solar lentigines and ephelides.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of Q-switched ND:YAG laser therapy along with hominis placenta pharmacopuncture for the patients with Solar lentigines. Methods : The 532nm wavelengths of Q-switched ND:YAG Laser was used to irradiate to the solar lentigines once, choosing an energy that would produce an adequate change in skin color. Also 5cc of hominis placenta pharmacopuncture were injected into both Cheonchu(ST 25). Results : After the treatment with Q-switched ND:YAG laser therapy along with hominis placenta pharmacopuncture, solar lentigines were effectively removed. Conclusion : The treatment with Q-switched ND:YAG laser therapy along with hominis placenta pharmacopuncture for the patients with solar lentigines are effective in the eight cases. Futher, additional studies are required to verify its long-term efficacy.

  • Whitening agents are eagerly demanded especially by oriental women who often suffers from the pigmentary disorders such as melasma and solar lentigines. As these pigmentary disorders are exacerbated by ultraviolet (UV), the whitening agents could exert its effect not only by inhibiting melanin synthesis but also by inhibiting UV activated signals. Eumelanin protects UV-induced DNA damages so that the chemicals which could reduce UV-induced DNA damages might be the ideal lightening agents. The effect of newly synthesized antioxidants, a-tocopheryl ferulate, on protective effect for UV-induced DNA damages as well as inhibiting melanin synthesis are briefly shown. For clinical evaluation, our results of the efficacy of lightening agents on treating pigment macules in combination with chemical peeling are shown. Furthermore, newly developed facial image analyzers to quantitatively evaluate the improvement of pigment macules are introduced.
