In this study, heating performance of the air-cooled heat pump with vapor-injection (VI) cycles, re-heater and solar heat storage tank was investigated experimentally. Devices used in the experiment were comprised of a VI compressor, re-heater, economizer, variable evaporator, flat-plate solar collector for hot water, thermal storage tank, etc. As working fluid, refrigerant R410A for heat pump and propylene glycol (PG) for solar collector were used. In this experiment, heating performance was compared by three cycles, A, B and C. In case of Cycle B, heat exchange was conducted between VI suction refrigerant and inlet refrigerant of condenser by re-heater (Re-heater in Fig. 3, No. 3) (Cycle B), and Cycle A was not use re-heater on the same operating conditions. In case of Cycle C, outlet refrigerant from evaporator go to thermal storage tank for getting a thermal energy from solar thermal storage tank while re-heater also used. As a result, Cycle C reached the target temperature of water in a shorter time than Cycle B and Cycle A. In addition, it was founded that, as for the coefficient of heating performance($COP_h$), the performance in Cycle C was improved by 13.6% higher than the performance of Cycle B shown the average $COP_h$ of 3.0 and by 18.9% higher than the performance of Cycle A shown the average $COP_h$ of 2.86. From this results, It was confirmed that the performance of heat pump system with refrigerant re-heater and VI cycle can be improved by applying solar thermal energy as an auxiliary heat source.
This study was carried out to evaluate thermal performance of the renewable hybrid heat supply system with solar thermal system and wood pellet boiler for Zero Carbon Green home of apartment houses. The hybrid heat supply system was set up at Korea Institute Energy Research in 2011. The system was comprised of the wood pellet boiler unit with heat capacity designed as 20,000kcal/hr, a $0.15m^3$ hot water storage tank for space heating, a evacuated tubular solar collector $3.74m^2$ of aperture area at the $20^{\circ}$ install angle, a $0.3m^3$ hot water storage tank. Thermal performance tests for one-house of apartment house were carried out by hot water load and heating load in winter season through the hybrid heat supply system. As a result, hot water energy supplied by the hybrid heat supply system was 11kWh in a day. Solar thermal energy portion was 2.99kWh which is 27% of the total hot water energy supply. wood pellet boiler supply portion was 8.017kWh which is 73% of the total hot water energy supply.
The volumetric solar receiver is a key element of solar power plants using air. The solar flux distribution inside the receiver should be a priori known for its heat transfer analysis. Previous works have not considered characteristics of the solar flux although they change with radiative properties of receiver materials and receiver geometries. A numerical method, which is based on the Monte Carlo ray-tracing method, was developed in the current work. The solar flux distributions inside multi-channeled volumetric solar receivers were calculated when light is concentrated at the KIER solar furnace. It turned out that 99 percentage of the concentrated solar energy is absorbed within 15mm channel length for the channel radius smaller than 1.5mm. If the concentrated light is assumed to be diffuse, the absorbed solar energy at the channel entrance region is over predicted while the light penetrates more deeply into the channel. Once the presented results are imported into the heat transfer analysis, one could examine effects of material property and geometry of the receiver on air temperature profiles.
Experimental study on the operating characteristics of a solar hybrid heat pump system according to indoor setting temperature were carried out during spring and winter season. The system was consisted of a concentric evacuated tube solar collector, heat medium tank, heat storage tank, and heat pump. As a result, the heating load was increased by 21.1% when the indoor setting temperature rose by 2oC for the same ambient temperature. Besides, the spring season had good outdoor conditions compared to the winter season, therefore the heating load was reduced and heat gain by collector increased, relatively. In case of the winter season, the solar fraction was shown less than 10% because the heat losses of system and space increased considerably. The solar fraction decreased significantly as the indoor setting temperature increased.
This study investigates the barriers to the deployment of solar thermal and ground source heat pump (GSHP) from the perspective of consumers and businesses, as well as evaluates priorities for improving the barriers via expert AHP evaluation. From a consumer's perspective, the overall satisfaction with solar thermal is significantly lower than that with PV and needs to be improved at the installation and use stages. GSHP needs to be improved at the prior-information search stage. From a business perspective, the non-distinction between heat and electricity in mandatory installations in public buildings, the difficulty in assessing the value of heat, and high initial costs impede the deployment. Based on the result of AHP analysis, the priorities for improving the barriers to the wide utilization of solar thermal are evaluated in the order of economic feasibility, policy, acceptability, and technology, where high installation cost is shown to be the greatest barrier. Barriers for GSHP are evaluated in the order of policy, acceptability, economic feasibility, and technology, where policy means improvement is evaluated as the most important factor in promoting the deployment of GSHP.
In this study, the solar thermal and geo-source heat pump(GSHP) hybrid system for heating and cooling of Zero Energy Solar House(ZESH) was analyzed by experiment. The GSHP in this hybrid system works like as aback-up device for solar thermal system. This hybrid system was designed and installed for Zero Energy Solar House (KIER ZeSH) in Korea Institute of Energy Research. The purpose of this study is to find out that this system is optimized and operated normally for the heating load of ZeSH. The analysis was conducted as followings ; - the thermal performance of facade integrated solar collector - the on/off characteristics of solar system and GSHP - the contribution of solar thermal system. - the performance of solar thermal and ground source heat pump system respectively. - the meet of thermal load (space and water heating load). This experimental study could be useful for the optimization of this system as well as its application in house. This hybrid system could be commercialized for the green home if it is developed to a package type.

Studies on the annual performance of three different type of solar-absorption heat pump system (parallel type, series type, and generator type) are carried out by using the computer simulation. These include the calculation of solar energy from the solar collector, and the revision of computer package, developed by Oak Ridge National Laboratory, to predict the annual performance. Finally using weather data and load conditions, the annual performance are obtained. Results show that the annual operating costs of three solar-absorption heat pump systems are almost same values and 44% lower than that of the pure absorption heat pump system. The total annual input energys of solar-absorption heat pump systems are also about 44% lower than that of the pure absorption heat pump. The nominal size of the solar-absorption heat pump systems can be reduced to a value of 55% that of the pure absorption heat pump that would normally be specified under identical conditions.

In statutes on the promotion of distribution of new and renewable energy, which were revised in 2014, daylight system and fuel cell were added in addition to existing new and renewable energy sources. This study, therefore, aimed at setting up targets for the introduction of daylight system and analyzing the installation rate of new and renewable energy which can be provided by daylight system for the aggressive use of daylight system, thereby deducting the optimal combination ratio with other new and renewable energy sources. The results of the study are as follows. First, when a prism-shaped daylight system was installed to a round indoor gymnasium among domestic indoor gymnasiums, out of a supply obligations allotment rate of 15% of new and renewable energy, the rate of daylight system was basically set at 2.5%. Second, therefore, with daylight system coming first, the lacked supply obligations rate was taken up by solar photovoltaic, solar heat and geothermal heat. In addition, using the KRESS Program, economic, technical, environmental and complexity evaluations for the upper 5% was made, deducting the optimal ratio of the system. The results produced the following optimal combination ratios: solar photovoltaic (83.3%) in economic evaluation, solar heat (8.3%) and geothermal heat (75%) in technical evaluation, solar photovoltaic (83.3%) in environmental evaluation, and solar photovoltaic (83.3%, the same as in economic evaluation) in complexity evaluation.
In order to investigate forced convection heat transfer due to the wind from the inner surface of a cavity receiver for a parabolic dish type solar energy collecting system, a two-dimensional rectangular cavity receiver is prepared and installed in a wind tunnel. The convection heat transfer coefficient of the inner surface of the receiver is dependent on the direction and the velocity of the wind. The attack angle of the cavity and the air velocity in the tunnel are controlled in a wide range so that the effects of the attack angle and the wind velocity on the heat transfer coefficient can be studied. The skirt is installed at the aperture of the cavity in order to reduce convective heat loss. The effects of the length and the installation angle of the skirt on convection heat transfer of the cavity are tested. It is found that convection heat loss can be significantly reduced by installing the skirt. Also, it is known that heat transfer from the cavity can be minimized if the angle of the skirt is $90^{\circ}$ to the outer surface of the cavity.

The electricity conversion-efficiency of solar cell for commercial application is about 6-15%. More than 85% of the incoming solar energy is either reflected or absorbed as heat energy. Consequently, the working temperature of the photovoltaic cells increases considerably after prolonged operations and the cell's efficiency drops significantly. PV/T refers to the integration of a PV module and a solar thermal collector in a single piece of equipment. By cooling the PV module with a fluid steam like air or water, the electricity yield can be improved. At the same time, the heat pick-up by the fluid can be to support space heating or service hot-water systems. In this study, a pulsating heat pipe solar heat collector was combined with single-crystal silicon photovoltaic cell in hybrid energy-generating unit that simultaneously produced low temperature heat and heat and electricity. This experiment was investigating thermal and electrical efficiency for evaluation of a PV/T system.
