Northern Gyeonggi Province(NGP), consisting of 3 counties, is the northernmost region in South Korea adjacent to the de-militarized zone with North Korea. To supplement insufficient spatial coverage of official climate data and climate atlases based on those data, high-resolution digital climate models(DCM) were prepared to support weather- related activities of residents in NGP Monthly climate data from 51 synoptic stations across both North and South Korea were collected for 1981-2000. A digital elevation model(DEM) for this region with 30m cell spacing was used with the climate data for spatially interpolating daily maximum and minimum temperatures, solar irradiance, and precipitation based on relevant topoclimatological models. For daily minimum temperature, a spatial interpolation scheme accommodating the potential influences of cold air accumulation and the temperature inversion was used. For daily maximum temperature estimation, a spatial interpolation model loaded with the overheating index was used. Daily solar irradiances over sloping surfaces were estimated from nearby synoptic station data weighted by potential relative radiation, which is the hourly sum of relative solar intensity. Precipitation was assumed to increase with the difference between virtual terrain elevation and the DEM multiplied by an observed rate. Validations were carried out by installing an observation network specifically for making comparisons with the spatially estimated temperature pattern. Freezing risk in January was estimated for major fruit tree species based on the DCMs under the recurrence intervals of 10, 30, and 100 years, respectively. Frost risks at bud-burst and blossom of tree flowers were also estimated for the same resolution as the DCMs.
The sun is a useful reference direction because of its brightness relative to other astronomical objects and its relatively small apparent radius as viewed by spacecrafts near the Earth. Most satellites use solar power as a source of energy, and so need to make sure that solar panels are oriented correctly with respect to the sun. Also, some satellites have sensitive instruments that must not be exposed to direct sunlight. For all these reasons, sun sensors are important components in spacecraft attitude determination and control systems. To minimize components and structural mass, some components have multiple purposes. The solar cells will provide power and also be used as coarse sun sensors. A coarse Sun sensor is a low-cost attitude determination sensor suitable for a wide range of space missions. The sensor measures the sun angle in two orthogonal axes. The Sun sensor measures the sun angle in both azimuth and elevation. This paper presents the development of a model to determine the attitude of a small cube-shaped satellite in space relative to the sun's direction. This sensor helps small cube-shaped Pico satellites to perform accurate attitude determination without requiring additional hardware.
There have been many solar tracking systems developed for the high accuracy in solar tracking. One of the key components of any motion control system is software. LabVIEW offers an ideal combination of flexibility, ease-of-use and well-integration with other I/O pieces for developing solar tracking system. Real-time solar positions which vary with GPS's data are used simultaneously to control the solar tracker by a chain of operating modes between the open and closed loops. This paper introduces a step by step procedure for the fabrication and performance assessment of a precision solar tracking system. The system developed in this study consists of motion controllers, motor drives, step-motors, feedback devices and application. CRD sensors are applied for the solar tracking system which play a primary role in poor conditions for tracking due to a gear backlash and a strong wind. Mini-dish was used as a concentrator for collecting sun light. The solar position data, in terms of azimuth and elevation, sunrise and sunset times was compared with those of KASI(Korea Astronomy & Space Science Institute). The results presented in this paper demonstrate the accuracy of the present system in solar tracking and utilization.
In this study, star visibility analysis of a star tracker is performed by using a statistical apprach. The probability of the Sun and the Earth proximity, the solar array masking probability, and the solar array blinding probability by the Sun light are obtained from the arbitrary chosen satellite positions as a function of a line of sight vector of the star tracker in several satellite attitude modes. This analysis demonstrates that the optimized star tracker accomodations can be determined to be an elevation angle -40o and two azimuth angles $-35^{circ}$ and $-150^{circ}$.
The work presented here is a design and development of sun tracking system for the parabolic dish concentrator. Parabolic dish concentrator is mounted on azimuth and elevation tracking mechanism, and controlled to track the sun with computed and measured sun positions. Sun tracking mechanism is composed of 1/30000 speed reducer(3 stages) and 400W AC servomotor for each axis. The nominal tracking speed of each axis is ${\pm}0.6^{\circ}/sec$ and the system has a driving range of $340^{\circ}$ in azimuth and of $135^{\circ}$ in elevation. Sun tracking control system consists of sun sensor, wind speed and direction measurement system, AC servomotor position control system and personal computer as a master controller. Sun sensor detects the sun located within ${\pm}50^{\circ}$ measured from the sun sensor normal direction. Computer computes the sun position, sunrise and sunset times and controls the orientation of parabolic dish concentrator through the AC servomotor position control system. It also makes a decision of whether the system should follow the sun or not based on the information collected from sun sensor and wind speed and direction measurement system. The sun tracking system developed in this work is implemented for the experimental work and shows a good sun tracking performance.
This paper introduces step by step procedures for the design, fabrication and operation of a solar tracking system. The system presented in this study consists of motion controllers, motor drives, step-motors, feedback devices and other accessories to support its functional stability. CdS sensors are used to constantly generate feedback signals to the controller, which assures a high-precision solar tracking even under adverse conditions. It enables instant correction if the system goes off track by strong winds causing gear backlash. A parabolic dish concentrator is mounted on the tracking system whose diameter was 30cm. The solar position data, in terms of azimuth and elevation, sunrise and sunset times were compared with those of the Astronomical Applications Department of the U.S. Naval Observatory. The results presented here clearly demonstrate the high-accuracy of the present system in solar tracking, which are applicable to many existing solar systems.

Agrivoltaic facility is the composite system that the solar panel is installed above the farmland, and it enables crop and electricity production simultaneously. Solar panels of the agrivoltaic facilities can block and reduce the amount of solar irradiance arriving at the farmland, but it can help the crop growth by preventing excessive solar irradiance. Therefore, to clarify how the agrivoltaic facilities affect the crop growth, precise solar irradiance distribution under the solar panel should be modeled. In this study, PAR (photosynthetically active radiation), radiation from 400 to 700 nm, which crops usually use to grow, was extracted from the total irradiance and its distribution model under various conditions was developed. Monthly irradiance distributions varied because the elevation of the sun was changed over time, which made the position changed that the local maximum and minimum irradiance appear. The higher panel height did not cause any significant difference in the amount of irradiance reaching below the solar panel, but its distribution became more uniform. Furthermore, the panel angles with the most irradiance arriving below the solar panel were different by month, but its difference was up to 2%p between the irradiance with 30° angle which is usually recommended in Korea. Finally, the interval between panels was adjusted; when the ratio of the length of the panel to the empty space was 1:2, the irradiance of 0.719 times was reached compared to when there was no panel, 0.579 times for 1:1 and 0.442 times for 2:1.

While traditional two-axis tracking systems with double sensors had been using two sensors to control azimuth and elevation angle of the sun so that a solar cell module would make a normal line with the sun, this paper proposed a new two-axis system that can achieve the same performance with only one sensor in it. It is Two-axis tracking system that control azimuth and elevation to control to be reduced for solar cell module as proposed tracking system uses 1 sensors and the sun always forms normal. Two-axis tracking system of one sensor method that propose in paper that could reduce electric power consumption and sees than fixed type preventing action and the most efficient driving and needless drive could confirm that generation efficiency of about 23 [%] increases. To heighten efficiency of solar cell doing to receive more sunlights chasing the sun, done tracking device have proceeded a lot of studies in large size way. Therefore, is expected that will do big part in the sun tracking supply through utility study about persistent generation efficiency constructing monitoring system of the sun tracking of this paper.

Recently, people are getting more interested in green energy resource and environment friendly energy resource due to the lack of energy and global warming. This study produced a solar energy resource map using LiDAR(Light Detection And Ranging) data to check if it is utilized for spatial information technology and solar energy sectors that people pay more attentions to as new recycling energy. This study assigned Ulleungdo(Island) located in Gyeongsangbuk-do as a target area. This study created the contour line with 1 meter by newly photographing LiDAR and data processing. And using this contour line, this study built DEM(Digital Elevation Model) data with 1 meter. The incidence range depending on the altitude and azimuth of sun using DEM data is used to evaluate solar energy resource. This is expected to suggest an accurate method to evaluate more reliable and more precise information of new recycling energy resource by producing solar energy resource map based on accurate and precise spatial resolution data with 1 meter level.
To analyze the slope characteristics of solar power plant installation region in Gangwon province, the installation status of solar power plant in Gangneung and Wonju city were investigated using GIS technique and satellite map. The solar power plant installation of Gangneung and Wonju city is 36 and 48 regions. Through topographical data of solar power plant installation region, a database for area, slope inclination, and elevation was construced. Based on the database, the slope characteristics of solar power plant installation region in Gangneung and Wonju city was analyzed. The results showed that the slope of Wonju city has a relatively higher slope inclination than Gangneung city. In addition, Gangneng and Wonju cities have many regions with maximum inclination of 15° and 34° or more within the solar power plant.
