Recently, there have been many research activities to develop the large-area plasma source, which is able to generate the high-density plasma with relatively good uniformity, for the plasma processing in the thin-film solar cell and display panel industries. The large-area CCP sources have been applied to the PECVD process as well as the etching. Especially, the PECVD processes for the depositions of various films such as a-Si:H, ${\mu}c$-Si:H, Si3N4, and SiO2 take a significant portion of processes. In order to achieve higher deposition rate (DR), good uniformity in large-area reactor, and good film quality (low defect density, high film strength, etc.), the application of VHF (>40 MHz) CCP is indispensible. However, the electromagnetic wave effect in the VHF CCP becomes an issue to resolve for the achievement of good uniformity of plasma and film. Here, we propose a new electrode as part of a method to resolve the standing wave effect in the large-area VHF CCP. The electrode is split up a series of strip-type electrodes and the strip-type electrodes and the ground ones are arranged by turns. The standing wave effect in the longitudinal direction of the strip-type electrode is reduced by using the multi-feeding method of VHF power and the uniformity in the transverse direction of the electrodes is achieved by controlling the gas flow and the gap length between the powered electrodes and the substrate. Also, we provide the process results for the growths of the a-Si:H and the ${\mu}c$-Si:H films. The high DR (2.4 nm/s for a-Si:H film and 1.5 nm/s for the ${\mu}c$-Si:H film), the controllable crystallinity (~70%) for the ${\mu}c$-Si:H film, and the relatively good uniformity (1% for a-Si:H film and 7% for the ${\mu}c$-Si:H film) can be obtained at the high frequency of 40 MHz in the large-area discharge (280 mm${\times}$540 mm). Finally, we will discuss the issues in expanding the multi-electrode to the 8G class large-area plasma processing (2.2 m${\times}$2.4 m) and in improving the process efficiency.

In case of the silicon solar panel being used in Korea, the production specification is designed to give maximum output at the limit of -0.5 to 0.05℃, so the output of 0.45~0.55% decreases when the temperature rises by 1℃. As a result, the photovoltaic power generation is reduced according to the surface temperature rise of the photovoltaic module due to the characteristics of the solar cell. The decrease in output reduces the efficiency of photovoltaic power generation, and if the efficiency decreases, the result is that the profit of electricity sales according to the amount of photovoltaic power generation decreases. Therefore, this paper proposes a method of spraying cooling air to the lower (or surrounding) of the photovoltaic module when it is identified above the set temperature by the temperature detection sensor. In addition, the amount of power generated is increased by utilizing the lost solar energy, and by applying cooling function through cooling air, the power generation can be further increased.

In order to verify the efficiency or availability and stability of photovoltaic(PV) generation systems, huge system apparatuses are needed, in general, in which an actual size of solar panel, a type of converter system and some amount of load facilities should be installed in a particular location. It is also hardly possible to compare a Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) control scheme with others under the same weather and load conditions in an actual PV generation system. The only and a possible way to bring above-mentioned problem to be solved is to realize a transient simulation scheme for PV generation systems using real weather conditions such as insolation and surface temperature of solar cell. The authors, in this paper, introduces a novel simulation method, which is based on a real-time digital simulator (RTDS), for PV generation systems under the real weather conditions. Firstly, VI characteristic equation of a solar cell is developed as an empirical formula and reconstructed in the RTDS system, then the real data of weather conditions are interfaced to the analogue inputs of the RTDS. The outcomes of the simulation demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed simulation scheme in this paper. The results shows that the cost effective verifying for the efficiency or availability and stability of PV generation systems and the comparison research of various control schemes like MPPT under the same real weather conditions are possible.

AZO (aluminum-doped zinc oxide) is one of the best candidate materials to replace ITO (indium tin oxide) for TCOs (transparent conductive oxides) used in flat panel displays, organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), and organic solar cells (OSCs). In the present study, to apply an AZO thin film to the transparent electrode of an organic solar cell, a low-temperature selective atomic layer deposition (ALD) process was adopted to deposit an AZO thin film on a flexible poly-ethylene-naphthalate (PEN) substrate. The reactive gases for the ALD process were di-ethyl-zinc (DEZ) and tri-methyl-aluminum (TMA) as precursors and H2O as an oxidant. The structural, electrical, and optical characteristics of the AZO thin film were evaluated. From the measured results of the electrical and optical characteristics of the AZO thin films deposited on the PEN substrates by ALD, it was shown that the AZO thin film appeared to be comparable to a commercially used ITO thin film, which confirmed the feasibility of AZO as a TCO for flexible organic solar cells in the near future.

Decision-making in construction projects often include options features. Such embedded options are difficult to value properly and many decision makers do not have experience in option analysis. The purpose of this paper is to demonstrate how real option analysis can be used to value capital expenditures on construction materials. We propose a real option framework to evaluate decision-making processes involving the purchase of construction materials. A case study was conducted by evaluating the purchase decision-making of solar cells, a good with high price volatility. Using real option analysis two strategies to improve the financial feasibility of installing a solar panel system were derived. The first strategy involves using a price cap that gives the project manager the right, but not obligation, to buy the modules for a predefined price during the next year. The second strategy is to defer the purchase of the solar cells until future price information becomes clearer. Both of the strategies in the case study were valued using the binominal model. This study will help to improve the financial feasibility of purchasing construction materials with high price volatility by including the value of managerial flexibility.

Many types of robot systems are used in the mass production line of thin film solar cells and flat panel displays. There are some issues such as the deflection and the vibration of the end-effector because robots handle large and heavy substrates at high speed. Heavy payload and high speed cause much vibration because the end-effector (fork) is made of carbon fiber reinforced polymer because of its light weightiness and sufficient stiffness. This study performs a dynamic simulation of an 8.5G solar cell substrate handling robot, including rigid and flexible bodies and a vibration controller. The fifth polynomial trajectory and the zero vibration derivative input shaping algorithm are applied. The vibration reduction is also proved in the experiments.
In silicon crystalline PV (Photo Voltaic) industry, PV module or panel electric power is directly related to the companies' profit. Thus, many PV companies have invested and focused on R&D activities to get the higher module power. The main BOM (Bills of Material) on the module consists of PV solar cell, ribbon, EVA (Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate copolymer), glass and back sheet. Based on consistent research efforts on enhancing module power using BOM, there have been increase of around 5 watt per module every year as results. However, there are lack of studies related to enhancing accuracy of measurement. In this study, the enhancing on the metrology is investigated and the improvement shows actually contribution to company's profit. Especially, the measurement issues related to heat and to quasi state of bandgap diagram by EL(Electro Luminescence) are described in this study.

Tin Oxide(SnO2) has been widely investigated as a transparent conducting oxide (TCO) and can be used in optoelectronic devices such as solar cell and flat-panel displays. It would be applicable to fabricating the wide bandgap semiconductor because of its bandgap of 3.6 eV. In addition, SnO2 is commonly used as gas sensors. To fabricate high quality epitaxial SnO2 thin films, a powder sputtering method was used, in contrast to typical sputtering technique with sintered target. Single crystalline sapphire(0001) substrates were used. The samples were prepared with varying the growth parameters such as gas environment and film thickness. Then, the samples were characterized by using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy measurements. We found that the strain evolution of the samples was highly affected by gas environment and growth rate, resulted in the delamination under O2 environment.

Tin doped indium oxide(ITO) films, which is widely used as a transparent conductor in optoelectronic devices such as solar cell, liquid crystal display, plasma display panel, thermal heater, and other sensors, were prepared by using the capacitively coupled DC magnetron sputtering method. The influence of the substrate temperature, working gas pressure and deposition time on the electrical, optical and morphological properties were investigated experimentally. ITO films with the optimum growth conditions showed resistivity of $2.36{\times}10^{-4}(\Omega}-cm$ and transmittance of 86.28% for a film 680nm thick in the wavelength range of the visible spectrum.
