  • This field experiment was carried out to determine the effects of fertilizer application time in spring on the growth, crude protein (CP) content and dry matter (DM) yield of gasses for grazing Application times of fertilizer were on March 10, March 20, March 30, April 9 and April 19, and control (non-fertilized) plot was involved. All fertilized plots were also treated with single and compound fertilizer. The first harvesting date for grazing was on April 30, and the regrowth soiling yield was investigated on June 9, 1988. In all fertilized plots, the growth, DM yield, CP, CP yield and nigrogen recovery of grasses were significantly increased compared with control, especially on the plot of March 30. The regrowth yield on March 30, April 9 and April 19 were shghtly hig!!a than those of the others. And there were not significant differences of grass growth, CP content, and DM yield between single-and compound fertilizer treatment. On March 30 which was the best time of fertilizer application in spring, the accumulated temperature was 116.6^{\circ}C.$ and the subsoil temperature at 10 cm depth was 8.1 - 8.6^{\circ}C.$. Considering the average meteorological condition in Suwon area, the optimum application time of spring fertilizer for grazing may be recommended on March 30-April 3 (accumulated temp.; 100-125^{\circ}C.$, subsoil temp.; 8-9^{\circ}C.$).

  • The cleaning in conservation treatment of cultural heritage is very important process. For the best conservation treatment of cultural heritage, except having a good detergency, the cleaning agent must be able to keep the heritage from the secondary deposition and re-soiling, damage and etc. In this paper, the dust (lichen, algae, dust, etc.) on the surface of stone made heritage was treated with some kinds of solvents and analyzed with FT-IR to develop a cleaning agent for stone made cultural heritage. And the cleaning ability to the dust and the corrosion ratio to the granite of the cleaning agent was investigated. Nonionic surfactants were good for treatment of stone-made cultural heritage. The reason is that nonionic surfactants are stable in acidic solution, and possess low reactivity with the compound of stone and low possibility to the second contamination, and build up the reactivities of acids and oxidants. A new cleaning agent composed with $H_2O_2/HF/NP-10$ shows a good cleaning ability for the conservation treatment of stone made cultural heritage.

  • This experiment was canied out to determine the effects of nitrogen (N) fertilization level (0, 70, 140, 280 and 420 k a a ) on the grass growth, dry matter (DM) production, numtive value, and botanical composition in reed canarygrass (Phalaris ancndinacea L.) pasture. \ulcornerhe cultivar used in this study was Palaton, and the grass was harvested at soiling-hay stage (3 times per year) in 1992 and 1993. As the N level was increased, the plant height, DM produdion, and crude protein (CP) content were significantly increased (P<0.05). When the N was applied at the levels of 0, 70, 140, 280, 420 kg, DM yields were 4,540, 5,316, 6,060, 7,923 and 9,960 kgha, and CP contents were 17.6, 17.4, 17.4, 18.4 and 19.8%, respectively. However, as the N level was increased, DM percentage, total digestible nutrients, and relative feed value were decreased, while the contents of neutral detergent fiber and acid detergent fiber, and bareland were continuously increased, particularly in the plot of N 420 kg fdzation. From the above results, it is suggested that reed canarygrass was one of the sensitive pasture grasses to N fertilizer, and the proper amount of N application was 280 kg/ha/yr for desirable production, nutritive value, and botanical composition in r e d conarygrass pasmre.

  • Purpose: Children treated for Hirschsprung disease (HD) are adversely affected by fecal incontinence and soiling. This can be detrimental to their physical, psychosocial quality of life (QoL) and impacts the normal functioning of their family. QoL studies in HD are predominantly from developed countries. We measured general quality of life, impact on family and functional bowel status using validated questionnaires in HD children in a developing country. Methods: Patients with HD, treated in a tertiary paediatric institution in India between 2010 and 2017, were identified. Patients and/or their proxy completed the Pediatric Quality of Life and Family Impact Module questionnaires. Functional outcomes were assessed using Rintala's score. Results: A 86 children and their parents participated in the study. Majority had rectosigmoid disease (67.4%) and underwent Soave's endoanal pull through (74.4%). A 21% of patients had low Rintala score indicating poor functional bowel outcomes. Only 11% of children had poor QoL scores. Family functioning outcomes were also severely affected in the same subgroup of patients. There was statistically significant correlation between Rintala score and QoL scores (p-value<0.001). Disease severity, type of surgery, and duration of follow-up did not have a statistically significant impact on the QoL. Conclusion: QoL in children with HD was comparable to the general population. Bowel dysfunction affects a notable number of children and was the most significant determinant of poor QoL.

  • Purpose: Recently well-developed anorectal function tests have revealed that there is an obvious pelvic floor dyssynergia (PFD) pattern in pediatric patients with constipation, as well as in adult's. The use of biofeedback therapy (BT) has been widely implemented in adult PFD patients; however, this approach has only rarely been considered for pediatric PFD patients. Therefore, we assessed the effectiveness of BT in children with PFD. Methods: We studied 70 children with PFD, who were referred to the department of pediatrics at the Asan Medical Center for the management of soiling or chronic constipation from September 2002 to February 2005. Diagnosis of PFD and assessment of the efficacy of BT for PFD treatment were carried out along with several ano-rectal function tests (cine-defecography, ano-rectal manometry, balloon expulsion test and intra-anal EMG); in addition, a questionnaire was administered. The BT based intra-anal EMG was performed. A follow-up telephone interview was performed more than 6 months later. Results: Most of the symptoms and results of the ano-rectal function tests were statistically improved after BT. In comparisons between the BT and control groups (BT refusal group due to poor compliance), the symptoms were statistically improved at follow-up. Therefore, for the shortterm improvement of symptoms, BT was better than conservative therapy alone. The negative feelings associated with ano-rectal function testing and BT were directly associated with failure or success of therapy. Conclusion: Pediatric patients with constipation or soiling that presented with an obvious PFD pattern showed that BT was a useful therapeutic tool for rapid improvement of symptoms.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the long term outcome and the factors contributing to treatment outcome for chronic functional constipation in children. Methods: Sixty three children were enrolled who had chronic functional constipation and could be followed by telephone contact. They were treated at the Bucheon Soonchunhyang Hospital for more than 1 month and observed from March 2001 to June 2005. We analyzed the clinical features, symptoms and signs, as well as the course and results of treatment. Results: The male to female ratio was 35 (55.6%) : 28 (44.4%). The mean age at the onset of symptoms and diagnosis was $21.1{\pm}23.5$ (1.9~84.0) months and $47.1{\pm}34.2$ (6.9~138.0) months, respectively. The mean defecation frequency before treatment was $3.2{\pm}2.3$ (0.5~10.0) times per week. The symptoms associated with constipation were as follows: soiling 34 (54.0%) which was more common in males than females, large stools in 30 (47.6%), decreased bowel movements less than three times a week in 20 (31.7%), straining during defecation in 19 (30.2%) and retentive posturing 19 (30.2%). The mean duration of follow-up was $34.2{\pm}14.6$ (3.6~60.0) months and 44 (69.8%) patients had their symptoms resolve ("success") and 19 (30.2%) were not resloved ("fail") from the constipation. The time for recovery from soiling, straining during defecation and retentive posturing after treatment was $4.3{\pm}2.4$ (1.0~36.0), $5.0{\pm}1.4$ (0.8~36.0) and $5.0{\pm}3.1$ (1.0~36.0) months, respectively. A relapse of the constipation occurred in 15 (23.8%) patients, 9 (60%) boys and 6 (40%) girls. The time to relapse after cessation of treatment was $2.9{\pm}1.9$ (1.0~6.0) months and the only risk factor associated with relapse was the initial duration of treatment. Conclusion: Most of the patients had resolution of symptoms within five months after treatment; relapse occurred within three months after the interruption of treatment. The duration of treatment was important for recovery and for the prevention of relapse in the constipated children. Thus a long term maintenance of therapy and follow-up is necessary for chronic functional constipation in children.

  • Effect of flooding on the desalting efficiency and the growth of sudan grass, barnyard grass, sesbania and corn was studied in a sandy soil of the Iweon reclaimed tidal land. Flooding plots were treated by 400 (one time flooding), 800 (two times flooding), and 1,200 mm(three times flooding) of water, respectively, and then soil salinities of the treated plots were compared with salinity of the control plot (not flooded) for estimation of desalting effect. Desalting ratio of 1,200 mm treatment was 78.3% for depth 0-20 cm, 70.5% for depth 20-40 cm and 60.8% for depth 40-60 cm, and then the soil salinity reached at 3~6 dS $m^{-1}$. Consequently, it was considered that sandy saline soil was satisfactorily desalted for upland crops to be cultivated by 1,200 mm flooding, but insufficiently desalted by 400 mm and 800 mm flooding because of high salinity ranged 5~14 dS $m^{-1}$ even after flooding treatment. In addition, it was estimated that soil salinity should be controled lower than 7.7 dS $m^{-1}$ in order to obtain more than 80%of crop emergence when four crops are simultaneously cultivated by inter- or mixed cropping in a field. Dry matter yields (kg $10a^{-1}$) was 1,068 for sudan grass, 696for barnyard grass, 1,426 for sesbania, and 1,164 for corn by 1,200 mm flooding treatment, but only 46.8~74.3% by 800 mm flooding treatment and 2.9~25.5% by 400 mm flooding treatment. Therefore, it is concluded that the flooding treatment more than 1,200 mm is necessary for satisfactory desalinization in order for the low salt tolerance crops to be cultivated in the sandy reclaimed tidal land.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate growth characteristics, yield and feed value of newly developed domestic teosinte (Geukdong 6) compared to widely cultivated silage corn hybrid (31N27) and sorghum ${\times}$ sudangrass hybrid (P877F). Geukdong 6, a new single cross (Teosinte ${\times}$ Suwon 19) variety, is a teosinte (Zea may L. ssp. maxicana) developed by the Geukdong 6 of agricultural company corporation (GACC) in An-dong province. This field experiment was designed in a randomized block design with three replications and consisted of silage corn (T1), sorghum x sudangrass hybrid (T2) and Geukdong 6 (T3). Leaf length, number of leaves, number of tillers and fresh yield of T3 were higher than that of T1 and T2 (p<0.05). Dry matter yield of T3 was lower than that of T1 (p<0.05). In particular, T3 ($0.1kg/cm^2$) showed to be very tender compared to other T1 ($0.5kg/cm^2$) and T2 ($0.5kg/cm^2$), (p<0.05). The crude protein content of T3 as 8.25% was higher than that of T2 (5.90%), (p<0.05). However, there was no significant differences between T1 (8.14%). The brix degree of T2 was higher than that of T1 and T3 (p<0.05). T3 showed higher content of total minerals compared to T1 and T2 (p<0.05). The relative palatability of T3 was higher than T1 and T2 (p<0.05), when fed to deer as soiling crop. However, it showed a lower than T1 in Korean native cattle and korean native goats. The relative palatability of the silage shown in order of T1> T3> T2 in korean native cattle, spotted deer, and korean native goats. As mentioned above the results, Geukdong 6 (T3) could be recommended as using of soiling and lab silage, when high fresh yield, tender stem, number of many leaf, content of high crude protein, and palatability higher than sorghum ${\times}$ sudangrass hybrid were considered.

  • Forage productivity and sequential changes in forage quality of four rye and two triticale varieties were studied. All the observed characteristics were similar among rye or triticale varieties, but they were different between rye and triticale varieties. Early growth of rye was better compared to triticale varieties, but at heading stage yield in dry weight, digestible dry matter and percent dry matter of triticale were higher compared to rye varieties. Heading stage of rye was earlier than that of triticale by 11 - 14 days. Triticale had longer and broader leaf blades and a higher leaf blade/total dry weight ratio compared to rye. Protein content decreased as plant growth advanced and it was higher in rye before heading, but it was similar after heading compared to triticale. Cellulose and lignin contents of rye increased through 20 days after heading. However, in triticale cellulose increased until heading stage and it levelled off, but lignin content increased rapidly after heading. Among the crude fibers, only acid detergent fibers(ADF) was negatively correlated with in vitro dry matter digestibility(IVDMD) in both rye and triticale. IVDMD of rye decreased rapidly after heading, but it was maintained as high as heading stage up to 15 days after heading in triticale. Protein content and IVDMD in leaf blades were higher than those of culm + leaf sheath, hemicellulose was similar, and cellulose, lignin, and ADF in leaf blades were lower compared to culm + leaf sheath. In the early and middle part of April rye was superior to triticale as a soiling crop because of a better plant growth of rye under the low temperature conditions, but in the later part of April and early part of May triticale was superior to rye because of a rapid decreased in IVDMD of rye after heading and a late maturing characteristics of triticale. Planting both rye and triticale could prolong the utilization period of the soiling crops and increase in yield with better quality compared to a single crop of rye or triticale.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of lime fertilization and light intensity on beech regeneration strategy in a mature beech forest(ca. 150 years old) gaps, which was located in the soiling areas Germany, where the soil is an acid brown earth. For the experiment canopy gaps of 30m diameter were cut, and one canopy gap remained as untreated while the other was limed(3t dolomite h $a^{-1}$). Soil chemistry, soil water potential, light intensity(PAR), ground vegetation, beech seedlings and mycorrhiza were investigated along transect from the stands into gaps to the north. The results of this study are followings: 1) In the limed gap, soil chemistry was greatly improved and a vigorous herb layer developed as compared to the unlimed gap. 2) Development and growth of the beech seedlings in the unlimed gap were generally deficient. Specially, developments of lateral roots were very lack. 3) Through the lime fertilization, the minerals contents of beech leaves such as calcium(Ca) and magnesium(Mg) were increased, while manganese(Mn) was decreased. There was antagonism between potassium(K) and calcium(Ca) or magnesium(Mg). 4) The relative mycorrhiza frequency(RM) in beech seedlings of the southern edge was very higher than that of the middle part, and through the lime fertilization extension of the species Laccaria amethystina appeared clearly. The results of this study showed that lime fertilize in forest, where the soil is acid, will be necessary..
