Conventional geotechnical engineering soil binders such as ordinary cement or lime have environmental issues in terms of sustainable development. Thus, environmentally friendly materials have attracted considerable interest in modern geotechnical engineering. Microbial biopolymers are being actively developed in order to improve geotechnical engineering properties such as aggregate stability, strength, and hydraulic conductivity of various soil types. This study evaluates the geotechnical engineering shear behavior of sand treated with xanthan gum biopolymer through laboratory direct shear testing. Xanthan gum-sand mixtures with various xanthan gum content (percent to the mass of sand) and gel phases (initial, dried, and re-submerged) were considered. Xanthan gum content of 1.0% sufficiently improves the inter-particle cohesion of cohesionless sands 3.8 times and more (up to 14 times for dried state) than in the untreated (natural) condition, regardless of the xanthan gum gel condition. In general, the strength of xanthan gum-treated sand shows dependency with the rheology and phase of xanthan gum gels in inter-granular pores, which decreases in order as dried (biofilm state), initial (uniform hydrogel), and re-submerged (swollen hydrogel after drying) states. As xanthan gum hydrogels are pseudo-plastic, both inter-particle friction angle and cohesion of xanthan gum-treated sand decrease with water adsorbed swelling at large strain levels. However, for 2% xanthan gum-treated sands, the re-submerged state shows a higher strength than the initial state due to the gradual and non-uniform swelling behavior of highly concentrated biofilms.
Plan stability production investigating 1st harvesting degree for maximum leaf quantity enlargement, is as following it summarize result that test for 3 years since 2002 allowing 4 processing such as trunk lower column department harvesting, Foliar and rhizoma growth were tendency that give protective care 1 st harvesting height is short, but there were many the number of tillering crawl, Distribution of rhizome about diameter 5mm low 58%, large rhizome's ratio was high tendency harvesting height is short. Because foliar amount is much harvesting height is short in ground department, 15% rose in soil surface harvesting since 292kg provision per 5cm harvesting 10a, The time of refining the harvest of stems and leaves before drying has reduced when the height of the harvest is low, and the 5cm harvest has decreased 30% compared to the soil surface harvest.
The polyene antifungal antibiotics, mostly produced by Gram-positive soil actinomycetes, are a family of type I polyketide macrolide ring compounds with 20$\sim$40 carbon backbone contain 3$\sim$8 conjugated double bonds. Using polyene-specific genomic screening strategy, we previously isolated three novel polyene-producing actinomycetes strains from soil, implying the potential application of these strains' spores as microbial pesticides. Here, we report that the sonication is a very efficient method for actinomycetes spore generation with a sonicator power-dependent manner. In addition, these sonication-driven actinomycetes spores retained significant portion of their cell viabilities as well as antifungal activities after freeze-drying procedure, implying the potential application of these strains' spores as microbial pesticides.

The Doam Lake watershed has a significant impact on the downstream water system due to nutrients and sediment outflow during rainfall caused by steep slopes, soil losses, and fertilization. These non-point sources are unclear in the discharge area and are affected by land use patterns, soil characteristics, and topographical features of the watershed. Therefore, this study conducted rainfall monitoring from July to October 2019 in Songcheon upstream of the Doam Lake watershed, one of the non-point pollution source management areas. Then, after analyzing rainfall runoff, Event Mean Concentration (EMC) and Mass First Flush ratio (MFFn) were calculated to compare and analyze the characteristics of rainfall and the non-point pollutant discharge. As a result of the analysis, it showed various non-point pollutant emission characteristics for each rainfall event. In addition, the concentration of EMC and the MFFn were affected by the average rainfall intensity and the maximum rainfall intensity, and were not significantly affected by the number of antecedent drying days. In the future, it is expected that effective non-point source reduction measures and management measures according to rainfall intensity through continuous monitoring and analysis will be needed.
The shear strength of weathered granite soils under unsaturated condition was evaluated by $K_0$ consolidated triaxial tests. Various matric suctions in the unsaturated triaxial tests were applied using suction-controlled triaxial test apparatus for weathered granite soils obtained in Daegu. Soil water characteristic curve (SWCC) laboratory tests for drying and wetting procedure were performed and van Genuchten curves were fitted by experimental results. The contribution of matric suction in unsaturated soils is directly correlated to effective stress and evaluated from SWCCs. The effective stresses were estimated from these SWCCs and the relationship between effective stress and unsaturated shear strength was determined. In the effective stress description, the unsaturated shear strength with respect to various suctions indicates unique relationship and almost the same as that of the saturated envelope.
This study was carried out to assess bioenergy conversion efficiency by biogas and solid fuel production in the cattle feedlot manure discharged from beef cattle barn. Feedlot manure was sampled from the cattle farmhouse located in Yong-in, Gyeonggi during the mid-fattening stage, periodically. The chemical characteristics, BMP (Biochemical methane potential) and HV (Heating values) of feedlot cattle manures were analyzed. Total solid contents of cattle feedlot manure were in the range of 29.98~44.28%, and volatile solid contents were in the range of 23.53~24.47%. In the anaerobic digestion of cattle feedlot manure, the methane production potential has increased from 0.141 to $0.187Nm^3kg^{-1}-VS_{added}$. The methane production of fresh cattle feedlot manure showed the range $0.141{\sim}0.187Nm^3kg^{-1}$-Manure (average $0.047Nm^3kg^{-1}$-Manure), the LHVs (lower heating values) of the produced methane were in the range of $316{\sim}560kcalkg^{-1}$-Manure (average $400kcalkg^{-1}$-Manure). In the direct combustion of fresh cattle feedlot manure, the LHVs were measured in the range of $747{\sim}1,271kcalkg^{-1}$-Manure (average $916kcalkg^{-1}$-Manure), and LHVs of solid fuel which have the water content of 20% were in the range of $2,694{\sim}2,876kcalkg^{-1}$-Manure (average $2,791kcalkg^{-1}$-Manure). Then, the drying energy of average $443kcalkg^{-1}$-Manure was consumed in the production of solid fuel which has a water content of 20%. Therefore, the direct combustion of cattle feedlot manure showed about 2.3 times higher LHV than the LHV of methane produced by anaerobic digestion. And LHV of solid fuel was about 6.0 times higher than the LHV of methane produced by anaerobic digestion. Then, the production of solid fuel presented more bioenergy conversion efficiency than the biogas production in the bioenergy use of cattle feedlot manure.
The aim of this study was to validate the suitability of an digital image analysis (DIA) method to measure the degree of saturation in the unsaturated conditions. This study was carried out on the Joo-Mun-Jin standard sand. A one-dimensional sand column test was used in the constant water level condition to get the correlation equation between the color number ($C_n$) and the measured degree of saturation (5). In addition, the hanging wale. column technique to determine the soil-water charactenstic curve (SWCC) was performed in a Buchner funnel. The average degree of saturation ($S_{ave}$) in the SWCC could be obtained by substituting average color number at each suction head value with the $C_n\;-\;S$ correlation equation. Comparisons were made between the measured results by the hanging water column test and those obtained from DIA method. Results showed that the DIA method tested here provided fairly good saturation distribution values in the drying and wetting processes.

Maintenance of adequate soil water content during the period of crop growth is necessary to support optimum plant growth and yields. A better understanding of soil water movement for precision irrigation would allow efficient supply of water to crops, thereby resulting in minimization of water drainage and contamination of ground water. This research reports on the characterization of spatial and temporal variations in water contents through three different textured soils, such as loam, sandy loam, and loamy sand, when water is applied on the soil surface using an one-line drip irrigation system and the soils are dried after the irrigation stops, respectively. Water contents through each soil profile were continuously monitored using three Sentek probes, each consisting of three capacitance sensors at 10, 20, and 30cm depths. Spatial variability in water content for each soil type was strongly influenced by soil textural class. There were big differences in wetting pattern and the rate of downward movement between loam and sandy loam soils, showing that the loam soil had a wider wetting pattern and a slower rate of downward movement than did the sandy loam soil. The wetting pattern in loamy sand soil was not apparent due to a low variability in water content (< 10%) by a lower-water holding capacity as compared to those measured in the loam and sandy loam soils, implying that the rate of water drainage below a depth of 30cm was high. When soils were dried, there were highly exponential relationships between water content and time elapsed after irrigation stops ($r^2$${\geq}$0.98). It was estimated that equilibrium moisture contents for loam, sandy loam, and loamy sand soils would be 17.6%, 6.2%, and 4.2%, respectively.
The efforts to reduce carbon emission have been made in many aspects and in road, the study to develop the construction method which will replace asphalt and cement is also underway. But given the low cost and high performance offered by cement, among many solidification agents, it's difficult to seek the competent alternative. Polymeric material has been used in various ways for its advantages including lightweight and easy process for complex function and generates less carbon emission, and thus it would possibly be efficient if it replaces soil pavement using cement. This study, using three different types of organic polymeric solidification agents with different solidification principle, is intended to identify the difference in strength depending on curing method, natural dry or oven dry. Applicability of organic polymeric solidification agents to walkway and bike lane was investigated and as a result of unconfined strength test, all of them satisfied the minimum strength requirements of bike lane. Furthermore, strength characteristics of soil pavement depending on variation of water content was evaluated to identify the relationship, thereby appropriate curing method using organic polymeric solidification agent is proposed.
During a construction of embankment, sub base, or retaining wall backfill, the speedy measurement of water content is necessary. In this study, a test method for field determination of water content of soil by the calcium carbide gas pressure (speedy water content measurement method) was evaluated for its reliability and accuracy. Dry oven and microwave oven methods were also used for water content measurement. In the test, weathered granite and Nakdong River sand in the site and kaolinite were used for water content measurement. The mass of 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, and 30 g of soil was respectively tested for 1, 3, and 5 min. The effect of each sample on water content was compared one another and analyzed. As the mass and testing time increased, the water content increased. The amount of soil was more important factor than testing time for the speedy water content measurement. In order to obtain similar result to that of dry oven method, 3 min of testing time with 24 g of soil was necessary for weathered granite classified as SM and 3 min with 30 g for Nakdong River sand classified as SP. For Nakdong River sand with 20-50% of kaolinite, the water content by speedy measurement increased as the clay content increased.
