Cause-and-Effect Perspective on Software Quality : Application to ISO/IEC 25000 Series SQuaRE's Product Quality Model

  • This paper proposes a new software quality model composed of a hierarchy of software quality views and three software quality characteristics models. The software view hierarchy is composed of two levels : end view and means view at the first level, contingency view and intrinsic view as sub-views of means view. Three software quality characteristics models are activity quality characteristics model, contingency quality characteristics model, and intrinsic quality characteristics model, which correspond to end view, contingency view, and intrinsic view respectively. This paper also reclassifies characteristics of ISO/IEC 25000 series SQuaRE's software product quality model according to the proposed software quality model. The results illustrate clearly the shortcomings of SQuaRE's product quality model and how to overcome them. First of all, most of SQuaRE's product characteristics should be redefined and conceptually clarified according to the views on which they are really rested. Much more characteristics should be supplemented too. After that, rigorous empirical researches will become relevant. Causal relationships between activity quality characteristics and characteristics of means view should be empirically researched.

  • 정보화 사회로 발전이 되면서 고품질 소프트웨어에 대한 관심과 요구가 증대되고 있다. 이에 따라 소프트웨어 제품 품질을 평가 및 관리하는 활동이 개발 활동과 함께 중요시되고 있다. 또한, 소프트웨어는 관련되는 이해당사자 마다 품질을 바라보는 다양한 시각이 존재할 수 있으며, 개발의 각 단계에서 중점적으로 관리되어야 할 품질특성이 필요하게 된다. 이러한 다양한 관점과 수명주기의 특성을 고려한 품질특성의 중요도는 품질관리 활동을 보다 효과적으로 수행할 수 있게 해준다. 그러나 소프트웨어 품질의 중요도에 대한 연구는 그 필요성과 효과성이 제대로 부각되지 않아 많은 연구가 진행되지 않았다. 본 논문에서는 소프트웨어 제품 품질의 기준이 되는 ISO/IEC 9126을 기반으로 소프트웨어 수명주기에서 품질특성의 중요도를 결정하는 기법을 제시하고자 한다. 제안된 기법은 소프트웨어와 관련되는 주요 이해당사자들을 대상으로 한 설문조사와 AHP 기법을 이용한 중요도 분석을 통해 이루어진다. 이를 통하여 수명주기에서 중요도 우선순위에 의하여 품질특성을 선별할 수 있으며, 소프트웨어 품질을 정량적으로 측정하고 개발 완료 후의 소프트웨어의 품질을 예상할 수 있게 하여 고품질의 소프트웨어를 획득할 수 있게 한다.

QFD 기법을 이용한 패키지 소프트웨어의 품질 요구사항 획득 (Acquiring Quality Requirements of Package Software using Quality Function Deployment Technique)

  • In this paper, the QFD(quality function deployment) technique is used to acquire the quality requirements of package software which is sold in commercial software shop. To select the principal quality characteristics of package software, an user survey was conducted for a quality model developed based on the international standards and the previous research. The software user is divided into three groups: the general user, the expert, and the developer. Based on the survey results, the top 10 quality characteristics are selected including accuracy, suitability, installability, de-installability, and maturaty. Then, the QFD technique is applied to choose the software quality attributes which have strong correlation with the selected quality characteristics, some of which are traceability, accuracy, modularity, completeness, and self-descriptiveness. The developed procedure can be used in evaluating the quality of package software with lower costs and efforts.

  • This paper presents the interrelationship between software quality character and engineering attributes. The software quality characteristics and subcharacteristics are excerpted from IS0/IEC 9126 standards, and the engineering attributes are from Deutsch and Willis〔4〕. Based on the previous studies a subjective judgement, trisected interrelationship(strong, medium, weak) bet these two groups are derived. The results are summarized in a table, and can be used as a quick reference guide to the software quality engineering application such as quality evaluations for software products, selection of key engineering attributes for high-quality software production, and so forth.

An Activity-Centric Quality Model of Software

  • In this paper, software activity, software activity instance, and the quality of the activity instance are defined as the 'activity which is performed on the software product by a person or a group of persons,' the 'distinctive and individual performance of software activity,' and the 'performer's evaluation on how good or bad his/her own activity instance is,' respectively. The representative values of the instance quality population associated with a product and its sub-population are defined as the (software) activity quality and activity quality characteristic of the product, respectively. The activity quality model in this paper classifies activity quality characteristics according to the classification hierarchy of software activity by the goal. In the model, a quality characteristic can have two types of sub-characteristics : Special sub-characteristic and component sub-characteristic, where the former is its super-characteristic too simultaneously and the latter is not its super-characteristic but a part of its super-characteristic. The activity quality model is parsimonious, coherent, and easy to understand and use. The activity quality model can serve as a corner stone on which a software quality body of knowledge, which constituted with a set of models parsimonious, coherent, and easy to understand and use and the theories explaining the cause-and-relationships among the models, can be built. The body of knowledge can be called the (grand) activity-centric quality model of software.

설계단계에서의 소프트웨어 품질측정과 평가기법 개발 (Development of Measurement and Evaluation Technique for Software Quality in Design Phase)

  • It is booming to use computer and information owing to the information society. As software applications have grown, so too has the importance of software quality. Therefore, software quality measurement and evaluation are necessary to satisfy the users who are using computers. The ISO/IEC 9126 defines six quality characteristics and twenty-one subcharacteristics including forty inter quality characteristics. We developed software measurement and evaluation technique using the check list in accordance with the ISO/IEC 9126 in design phase. We applied idea and concept of Total Quality Management in order to evaluate and measure the quality of software. Namely, it is the concept such as "you should do it right the first time." or "you have to build quality in the process." We executed the quantitative evaluation of software, also had shown the distinctive result in order that users and developers can find the errors easily. We evaluated the quality of academic softwares in order to verify developing technique at S college. As a result of the evaluation, this college has found it necessary to maintain the software as soon as possible because academic systems are not adequate for users at this present time.

  • In accordance with the growing importance of software in computer systems, software quality and performance has become a hot issue in all computer-related fields and businesses. But the measurement and evaluation of software quality still poses a problem, due to the different viewpoints of software developers and users. This study attempts to combine the external characteristics of quality representing the viewpoint of users, and the internal characteristics representing the viewpoint of developers of quality. In order to do this, this study provides multiple models which select the appropriate internal characteristics which reflect user requirements from earlier phases of development. The goal of this study is to enhance the applicability of 40 internal characteristics of ISO 9126 to the models.

분석단계에서의 소프트웨어 품질 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on Software Quality Evaluation in Analysis Phase)

Software quality measurement and evaluation are necessary to satisfy the users who are using computers. In the present time, ISO/IEC 9126 define 6 quality characteristics and 21 sub-characteristics including 40 inter quality characteristics. We developed software evaluation technique using the check list in accordance with the ISO/IEC 9126 in analysis phase. We evaluated the software quality in order to verify developing technique at S college. As a result of the evaluation, this college has found it necessary to maintain the software as soon as possible because academic systems are not adequate for users at this present time.

  • IT기술의 발달로 제조 기반의 IIoT환경을 기반으로 한 데이터 마이닝 형태의 소프트웨어들이 점차 늘어나고 있다. 그러나 빅데이터 및 데이터마이닝을 진행해야 하는 대량의 데이터를 가지는 제조 기업의 소프트웨어 특성상 일반 소프트웨어와 동일한 형태로 소프트웨어 품질을 평가하기 힘든 실정이다. 또한 이기종간의 장비 및 소프트웨어가 혼재된 제조 기반의 환경에서 특히 기존의 품질 특성을 적용하여 사용되는 소프트웨어에 대한 품질 판단을 진행하기 어렵다. 본 논문에서는 제조 기반의 특성을 조사하고 이에 맞는 소프트웨어 품질 평가 모델을 개발하여 평가를 실시하고자 한다.
