Since security vulnerabilities newly discovered in a popular Web browser immediately put a number of users at risk, urgent attention from developers is required to address those vulnerabilities. Analysis of characteristics in the Web browser vulnerabilities can be used to assess security risks and to determine the resources needed to develop patches quickly to handle vulnerabilities discovered. So far, being a new research area, the quantitative aspects of the Web browser vulnerabilities and risk assessments have not been fully investigated. However, due to the importance of Web browser software systems, further detailed studies are required related to the Web browser risk assessment, using rigorous analysis of actual data which can assist decision makers to maximize the returns on their security related efforts. In this paper, quantitative software vulnerability analysis has been presented for major Web browsers with respect to the Common Vulnerability Scoring System. Further, vulnerability discovery trends in the Web browsers are also investigated. The results show that, almost all the time, vulnerabilities are compromised from remote networks with no authentication required systems. It is also found that a vulnerability discovery model which was originally introduced for operating systems is also applicable to the Web browsers.

Nowadays, software plays various roles in applications in wide areas. However, the security problems caused by software vulnerabilities increase. So, it is necessary to improve software security and safety in software execution. In this paper, we propose an approach to improve the safety of software execution by managing information used in software through static data access analysis. The approach can detect the exposures of secure data in software execution by analyzing information property and flows through static data access analysis. In this paper, we implemented and experimented the proposed approach with a base language, and verify that the proposed approach can effectively detect the exposures of secure information. The proposed approach can be applied in several areas for improving software safety by analysing vulnerabilities from information flows in software execution.
Vulnerabilities in software can result in many social and economic problems once it has already been deployed and put to use. Thus, the vulnerabilities should be seriously taken into consideration from the beginning step of software development. A modeling and simulation method for software can be adopted as a testing tool for establishing vulnerability inspection strategies. For verification of usability of this strategy, in this paper, we modeled the behavior of a DNS system using Ptolemy and the simulation was performed. The result shows that a well-known vulnerability of DNS server could be effectively found, which confirms that the modeling and simulation can be used for vulnerability testing.

In this study, we wanted to examine the new vulnerability 'Dirty Pipe' that is founded in Linux kernel. how it's exploited and what is the limitation, where it's existed, and overcome techniques and analysis of the Linux kernel package. The study of the method used the hmark[1] program to check the vulnerabilities. Hmark is a whitebox testing tool that helps to analyze the vulnerability based on static whitebox testing and automated verification. For this purpose of our study, we analyzed Linux kernel code that is downloaded from an open-source website. Then by analyzing the hmark tool results, we identified in which file of the kernel it exists, cvss level, statistically depicted vulnerabilities on graph which is easy to understand. Furthermore, we will talk about some software we can use to analyze a vulnerability and how hmark software works. In the case of the Dirty Pipe vulnerability in Linux allows non-privileged users to execute malicious code capable of a host of destructive actions including installing backdoors into the system, injecting code into scripts, altering binaries used by elevated programs, and creating unauthorized user profiles. This bug is being tracked as CVE-2022-0847 and has been termed "Dirty Pipe"[2] since it bears a close resemblance to Dirty Cow[3], and easily exploitable Linux vulnerability from 2016 which granted a bad actor an identical level of privileges and powers.

Recently, as modern Internet uses mashups, Web 3.0, JavaScript/AJAX widely, the rate at which new vulnerabilities are being discovered is increasing rapidly. It can subsequently introduce big security threats. In order to efficiently mitigate these web application vulnerabilities and security threats, it is needed to rank vulnerabilities based on severity and consider the severe vulnerabilities during a specific phase of software development lifecycle (SDLC) for web applications. In this paper, we have first verified whether the risk rating methodology of OWASP Top 10 vulnerabilities is a reasonable one or not by analyzing the vulnerability data of web applications in the US National Vulnerability Database (NVD). Then, by inspecting the vulnerability information of web applications based on OWASP Top-10 2010 list and CWE (Common Weakness Enumeration) directory, we have mapped the web-related entries of CWE onto the entries of OWASP Top-10 2010 and prioritized them. We have also presented which phase of SDLC is associated with each vulnerability entry. Using this approach, we can prevent or mitigate web application vulnerabilities and security threats efficiently.

Recently, social security problems have been caused by the development of the software industry, and a variety of automation techniques have been used to verify software stability. In this paper, we propose a method of automatically detecting a use-after-free vulnerability on Windows system calls using dynamic symbolic execution, one of the software testing methods. First, a static analysis based pattern search is performed to select a target point. Based on the detected pattern points, we apply an induced path search technique that blocks branching to areas outside of interest. Through this, we overcome limitations of existing dynamic symbolic performance technology and verify whether vulnerability exists at actual target point. As a result of applying the proposed method to the Windows system call, it is confirmed that the use-after-free vulnerability, which had previously to be manually analyzed, can be detected by the proposed automation technique.

If the software is not updated after the vulnerability is disclosed, it can continue to be attacked. As a result, the importance of N-day detection is increasing as attacks that exploit vulnerabilities increase. However, there is a problem that it is difficult to find specific version information in the published vulnerability database, or that the wrong version or software is outputted. There is also a limitation in that the connection between the published vulnerability databases is not good. In order to overcome these limitations, this paper proposes a method of building information including comprehensive vulnerability information such as CVE, CPE, and Exploit Database into an integrated database. Furthermore, by developing a website for searching for vulnerabilities based on an integrated database built as a result of this study, it is effective in detecting and utilizing vulnerabilities in specific software versions and Windows operating systems.

As the number of software vulnerabilities grows year by year, attacks on software are also taking place a lot. As a result, the security administrator must identify and patch vulnerabilities in the software. However, it is important to prioritize the patches because patches for all vulnerabilities are realistically hard. In this paper, we propose a scoring system that expands the scale of risk assessment metric by taking into consideration attack patterns or weaknesses cause vulnerabilities with the vulnerability information provided by the NIST(National Institute of Standards and Technology). The proposed scoring system is expanded based on the CWSS and uses only public vulnerability information to utilize easily for any company. In this paper, we applied the automated scoring system to software vulnerabilities, and showed the expanded metrics with consideration for influence of attack pattern and weakness are meaningful.
