  • This paper proposes an low-complexity soft-output multiple-input multiple-output (soft-MIMO) detection algorithm for achieving soft-output maximum-likelihood (soft-ML) performance under max-log approximation. The proposed algorithm is based on a parallel tree-search (PTS) applying a channel ordering by a sorted-QR decomposition (SQRD) with altered sort order. The empty-set problem that can occur in calculation of log-likelihood ratio (LLR) for each bit is solved by inserting additional nodes at each search level. Since only the closest node is inserted among nodes with opposite bit value to a selected node, the proposed node insertion scheme is very efficient in the perspective of computational complexity. The computational complexity of the proposed algorithm is approximately 37-74% of that of existing algorithms, and from simulation results for a $4{\times}4$ system, the proposed algorithm shows a performance degradation of less than 0.1dB.

  • In this paper, we propose a new SO-MLSE(soft-output maximum likelihood sequence estimation) equalizer, which can be used in GSM digital cellular system) it uses complex correlation of training sequence to obtain the channel information and the equalization is performed by MLSE using Viterbi algorithm. In order to generate a soft-decision input to channel decoder (Viterbi decoder), the soft-output equalization algorithm is needed. The adopted algorithm doesn't require to modify the structure of HO-MLSE(hard output MLSE) equalizer, that is, SO-MLSE equalizer can be implemented by adding soft-output generation block to HO-MLSE equalizer. This algorithm uses the outputs of matched filter and HO-MLSE equalizer. It turns out that the complexity of proposed SO-MLSE equalizer is simpler than those of other SO-MLSE equalizer and its perforance is almost the same as those of others. Finally, the proposed SO-MLSE equalizer is also implemented s a prototype with ADSP-2101 16-bits fixed point digital signal processing chip.

  • In spatially multiplexed MIMO systems that enable high data rate transmission over wireless communication channels, the spatial demultiplexing at the receiver is a challenging task and various demultiplexing methods have been developed. Among the previous methods, maximum likelihood detection with QR decomposition and M-algorithm (QRM-MLD), sphere decoding (SD), QOC, and MOC schemes have been reported to achieve a (near) maximum likelihood (ML) hard decision performance. In general, however, the reliability of soft output of these schemes is not satisfactory. In this paper, we propose a method which enhances the reliability of soft output. By computer simulations, we demonstrate the improved performance by the proposed method.

  • Recently, a variety of reduced complexity soft-in soft-output detection algorithms have been introduced for iterative detection and decoding (IDD) systems. However, it is still challenging to implement soft-in soft-output detectors for MIMO systems due to heavy burden in computational complexity. In this paper, we propose a soft detection algorithm for MIMO systems which performs close to the full dimensional joint detection, yet offers significant complexity reduction over the existing detectors. The proposed algorithm, referred to as soft-input soft-output successive group (SSG) detector, detects a subset of symbols (called a symbol group) successively using a deliberately designed preprocessing to suppress the inter-group interference. In fact, the proposed preprocessor mitigates the effect of the interfering symbol groups successively using a priori information of the undetected groups and a posteriori information of the detected groups. Simulation results on realistic MIMO systems demonstrate that the proposed SSG detector achieves considerable complexity reduction over the conventional approaches with negligible performance loss.

  • In this paper, we compare two methods that improve the reliability of soft output at the receiver of MIMO communications. The receiver complexity of spatially mutiplexed MIMO system is in proportion to the number of candidate vectors. Low complexity receiver techniques involving a small number of candidate vectors, provide soft output values of low reliability. In order to improve the low reliability of soft output, two previous methods can be used; the first method involves a clipping threshold, the second method uses Euclidian distance instead of squared Euclidian distance. In the paper, we address the theoretical similarity of the two methods, then we compare the two methods from the perspective of hardware implementation.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel soft output generation method for spatially multiplexed MIMO systems. The receiver complexity of spatially mutiplexed MIMO system is in proportion to the number of candidate vectors. The ML signal detection method considers all possible vectors as candidates, thereby achieving a high performance, however, its complexity is very high. Low complexity receiver techniques involving a small number of candidate vectors, provide soft output values of low reliability. In this paper, we propose a method to improve reliability of the soft output values obtained using a small number of candidate vectors.

  • When we apply the LDPC code for high density optical storage channel, it is necessary to make an algorithm that the modulation code decoder must feed the LDPC decoder soft-valued information because LDPC decoder exploits soft values using the soft input. Therefore, we propose the soft-input soft-output run-length limited 17PP decoding algorithm and compare performance of LDPC codes. Consequently, we found that the proposed soft-input soft-output decoding algorithm using 17PP is 0.8dB better than the soft-input soft-output decoding algorithm using (1, 7) RLL.

  • This paper is concerned with the implementation of the equalization technique in a DCS 1800 system employing the soft-decision output Viterbi algorithm (SOVA), which makes the hardware complexity comparable to the hard decision MLSE and gives reliable performance. Also, the channel estimation technique with enhances the perfdormance of the soft-decision output equalizer is proposed, and the Viterbi decoder which operates effectively with the soft-decision output of the qualizer is implemented using the Very High Speed ICs Hardware Description Language (VHDL). From the simulation results, it is shown that the implemented Viterbi decoder operates effectively and the SOVA outperforms the hard-decision MLSE in terms of the frame erasure rate (FER) and bit error rate (BER).

  • This paper describes a comparative analysis of soft switching boost converters through design, production and experiment. Soft switching boost converters are designed to satisfy the condition of input voltage 170-265Vac, output voltage 400Vdc, output current 5A, output power 20W-2000W and unit power factor. In addition, parameter values are designed so that system operation can be compared under this is similar conditions. The efficiency of the combined inductor soft switching boost converter was 97.63% with 1011 load better than that of other boost converter types. The combined inductor soft switching converter has simple circuit construction and low switching loss. EMI resulted by the switching noise, and harmonic distortion.
