Relationship in Shape between Oral and Pharyngeal Structures and Upper Cervical Spine (구강-인두형태와 상경추부형태간의 관계)

  • This study was performed to investigate the morophological and positional correlation between the upper cervical vertebra, the oral structures and the pharyngeal tissues, and the correlation of these anatomical structures with dental features, such as teeth wear area nad tooth contact status, etc. Seventy patients with temporamandibular disorders and sixty three dental students without any signs and symptoms in head and neck region were selected for this study. All they had natural dentition without any fixed and removable protheses. Teeth wear area and arch width wre measured from the upper dental cast, tooth contact status were observed by T-Scan system$^\textregistered$ and four cephaloradiograpohs were taken from four head postures, namely, natural(NHP), forward(FHP), upward(UHP), and downward head postiure(DHP). 22 cephalometric items were measured on the films and the data were processed with SAS statistical program. The result of this study were as follows : 1. In normal group, angle of cervical vertebra tangent and of between hard and soft palate were broader in female subjects than those in male subjacets, but distance from subocciput to axis, size of soft palate, and pharyngeal space width were larger in male subjects. 2. In normal group with natural head posture, the items correlated each others from the three anatomical regions were distance between first nad second vertebra in posterior part, distance from the lingual surface of lower anterior teeth to anterior surface of soft palate, and distance from the hyoid bone to third vertebra. 3. Three set of items showed significant correlation each other in the four head postures in normal group. First set was the angle between hard and soft palate and the idstance from subocciput to posterior arch of first vertebra, second set was the distance between first and second vertebra in posterior part and the teeth wear area, third set was number and force of tooth contact and length of soft palate and distance from anterior tip of hyoid bone to mandibular plane.

An Analytical Study on Bearing Mechanism of Very Soft Ground Covered with Geotextile by Effects of Friction between Ground and Geotextile (토목섬유로 표층 처리된 초연약지반의 지지 메커니즘에 미치는 토목섬유와 지반의 마찰 영향)

  • In general, ground surface strengthening such as using geotextile is needed to secure trafficability of construction equipment. There are many researches for mechanical beha-vior of very soft ground covered with geotextile, however, most of them are under the condition to fix geotextile completely. In this study, numerical analyses were carried out to figure out the effects of restricting conditions of geotextile on bearing mechanism of very soft ground covered with geotextile. In numerical analyses, joint elements were used to figure out the friction properties between ground and geotextile. The results of numerical analyses were compared with the results of model test. In conclusion, the effects of restricting conditions of geotextile on bearing mechanism of very soft ground covered with geotextile became clear.

The Effect of Annealing on Soft Magnetic Properties of Ee-Hf-N Thin Films Prepared by Reactive Sputtering (반응성 스퍼터링에 의해 제조된 Fe-Hf-N 박막의 연자기 특성에 미치는 열처리 영향)

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of annealing conditions on physical and magnetic properties of Fe-Hf-N thin films. When the thin films were annealed in $N_2$ gas, a surface oxide layer, comprised of Fe$_2$O$_3$ and Fe$_3$O$_4$, was formed at the surface of the thin films and a Fe-Hf-O-N layer was also formed under this surface oxide layer. It was found that the thicknesses of the surface oxide layer and the Fe-Hf-O-N layer increased, as the annealing temperature increased. It was also found that if the thickness of the surface oxide layer was excluded in the property calculation, the soft magnetic properties of the annealed thin films were not much different from those of the as-deposited thin films. Therefore, it was suggested that the Fe-Hf-O-N layer formed under the surface oxide layer did not lose significantly the soft magnetic properties of the Fe-Hf-N films and the Fe-Hf-N films annealed in $N_2$gas showed the soft magnetic properties of the Fe-Hf-N and Fe-Hf-O-N multi-layers.

Effect of chemical surface treatment on the flexural bond strength of heat curing denture base resin and reliners (화학적 표면처리가 열중합형 의치상 레진과 이장재간의 굴곡결합강도에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of the chemical surface treatment on the flexural bond strength of heat curing denture base resin and reliners. Methods: Denture base resin surface was treated with MMA 95% and TEGDMA 5%, MMA 95% and silane coupling agent 5%, heat curing resin monomer. After denture reliners were injected, flexural bond strength was measured. Results: The repair resin of Vertex SC was higher than Lang, hard reliner of Kooliner was higher than Rebase. Soft reliner of Dura base and Coe-soft showed differently according to the surface treatment. The all chemical treatment groups on Vertex SC were significantly higher than control(p<0.05). In Lang group, 5% MPS treated group showed significantly higher flexural bond strength than others(p<0.05). In Kooliner group, all chemical treatment groups showed significantly higher than control(p<0.05). In Rebase group, the 5% MPS and the monomer denture base resin treated groups showed significantly higher than others(p<0.05). In Dura base group, 5% MPS treated group showed significantly higher flexural bond strength than others(p<0.05). In Coe-soft group, all treated groups were significantly higher than control group(p<0.05). Conclusion: TEGDMA, MPS, and the monomer of heat-cured denture base resin were effective to improve the bond strengths between denture base and denture relining materials. Especially, 5% MPS expected to strengthen effectively the bonding property of denture base and denture reliners within the results of this study.

Effects of Home Exercise Program on the Improvement of Balance in the Elderly (가정운동 훈련프로그램이 노인의 균형증진에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of home exercise program on the improvement of balance in the elderly. Subjects were twenty members living in Daegu (10 males, 10 females), between 65 and 81 years of age. The subjects for the experimental group were participated in the home exercise program for 8 weeks, between April 2001 and June 2001. The results of this study were as follows: After the exercise program, balance ability by CTSIB in the experiment group improved with no statistical significance. On the other hand, balance ability by OLST was significantly improved in the condition with open eyes than dosed eyes. Balance ability by OLSTR was improved 37.2% (p<0.001) on the hard surface with open eyes and improved 41.1% (p<0.01) on the soft surface with open eyes. Balance ability by OLSTL improved 37.1% (p<0.001) on the hard surface with open eyes and improved 72.5% (p<0.001) on the soft surface with open eyes. Balance ability by BBT also improved 1.7% (p<0.05).

  • This research is the hair damage as treating a perm before and after that is compared the change of surface characteristics of human hair. On the basis of this, we would to show a basic data for hair damage prevention and hair improvement to keep the beautiful and healthy hair. Results are as follows; For the change of formational characteristics of hair surface, untreated hair before the perm treatment had smooth appearance overall and undamaged scale that is in pattern and finely folded was observed but damaged hair and extremely hair had uneven edge and damages throughout along with the dissolution of scale which the border of epidermal gap is unclear. Hair after a perm treatment caused cortical exposures due to extensive loss of scale during the treatment and even bubble effect. Protein perm, regular perm, soft perm, and direct heating perm, in that order, had the most damages to the hair.

Pseudo 3D FEM analysis for wave passage effect on the response spectrum of a building built on soft soil layer

  • Spatially variable ground motions can be significant on the seismic response of a structure due to the incoherency of the incident wave. Incoherence of the incident wave is resulted from wave passage and wave scattering. In this study, wave passage effect on the response spectrum of a building structure built on a soft soil layer was investigated utilizing a finite element program of P3DASS (Pseudo 3-dimensional Dynamic Analysis of a Structure-soil System). P3DASS was developed for the axisymmetric problem in the cylindrical coordinate, but it is modified to apply anti-symmetric input earthquake motions. Study results were compared with the experimental results to verify the reliability of P3DASS program for the shear wave velocity of 250 m/s and the apparent shear wave velocities of 2000-3500 m/s. Studied transfer functions of input motions between surface mat foundation and free ground surface were well-agreed to the experimental ones with a small difference in all frequency ranges, showing some reductions of the transfer function in the high frequency range. Also wave passage effect on the elastic response spectrum reduced the elastic seismic response of a SDOF system somewhat in the short period range.

  • Borehole tests are commonly used as a tool to obtain the physical properties of soils and rocks. The results of borehole tests are, however, discontinuous. Interpolation methods are applied to interpret the data gap between the borehole test points. The interpolation is valid only if the horizontal variations of the ground between the test points are small enough to ignore. A surface wave inversion method was used to study the S wave velocity of the very soft soil to provide the continuous 2 dimensional S wave velocity structure. The resolution of the S wave velocity structure was used to interpret the inversion results.

  • Two types of polyurethane(PU) ionomer dispersion having different type of soft segment, viz. Poly (tetramethylene adipate) glycol(PTAd), and polypropylene glycol(PPG) were emulsion blended. Viscosity of emulsion blend, mechanical, and surface properties of the emulsion cast films were determined as a function of blend composition. Mechanical properties showed a large scatter of data or negative deviation from the additivity rule, and this was attributed to the incompatibility of soft segments. Contact angle measurement indicated that air facing surface of emulsion cast film contained more of PPG PU, due probably to its smaller particle diameter compared to PTAd PU.
