Multi core-shell composite particles were prepared by the water-born emulsion polymerization of various core monomers such as methyl methacrylate (MMA), ethyl methacrylate (EMA) and shell monomers such as MMA, EMA, 2-hydroxyl ethyl methacrylate (2-HEMA), glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) and methacrylic acid (MAA) in the presence of different concentrations of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS). The following conclusions are drawn from the conversion, particle size and distribution, average molecular weight, molecular structure, glass transition temperature with DSC, contact angle after plasma treatment, tensile strength and isothermal decomposition kinetics. In the case of the concentration of 0.02 wt% SDBS, the conversion of MMA core-(EMA/GMA) shell composite particles was excellent as 98.5%. In the case of the concentration of 0.03 wt% SDBS, the particle size of EMA core-(MMA/GMA) shell composite particles was high as $0.48{\mu}m$. We confirmed that 3 points of glass transition temperatures appear for multi core-shell composite particles compared to 1~2 points of glass transition temperatures appear for general copolymer particles. Overall, the adhesion strength of shell composite particles was in the order of EMA/MAA > EMA/2-HEMA > EMA/GMA.
Multi core-shell composite particles were prepared by the water-born emulsion polymerization of various core monomer such as methyl methacrylate (MMA), n-butyl methacrylate (BMA), and shell monomer such as MMA, BMA, stylene (St), 2-hydroxyl ethyl methacrylate (2-HEMA) and acrylic acid (AA) in the presence of different concentration of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS). The following conclusions are drawn from the measured conversion, particle size and distribution, average molecular weight, molecular structure, glass transition temperature with DSC, morphology, tensile strength and elongation. In the case of the concentration of 0.02 wt% SDBS, the conversion of MMA core-(BMA/St/AA) shell composite particle was excellent as 98%. In the case of the concentration of 0.03 wt% SDBS, the particle size of BMA core-(MMA/St/AA) shell composite particle was high as $0.47{\mu}m$. We confirmed that 3 points of glass transition temperatures appear for multi core-shell composite particles compared to 2 points of glass transition temperatures appear for general core-shell composite particles. We showed that it is possible to adjust glass transition temperatures according to the kind and composition of the inner shell monomer that it is can be used as a adhesive binder material with improved adhesive power.
Core-shell polymers of methyl methacrylate/styrene pair were prepared by sequential emulsion polymerization in the presence of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate(SDBS) as an emulsifier using ammonium persulfate(APS) as an initiator. The characteristics of these core-shell polymers were evaluated. Core-shell composite latex has the both properties of core and shell components in a particle, where as polymer blonds or copolymers show a combined properties from the physical properties or two homopolymers. This unique behavior of core-shell composite latex can be used in many industrial fields. However, in preparation of core-shell composite latex, several unexpected phenomina are observed, such as, particle coagulation, low degree of polymerization, and formation of new particles during shell polymerization. To solve the disadvantages, we studied the effects of surfactant concentrations, initiator concentrations, and reaction temperature on the tore-shell structure or PMMA/PSt and PSt/PMMA. Particle size and particle size distribution were measured by using particle size analyzer, and the morphology of the core-shell composite latex was observed by using transmission electron microscope. Glass transition temperature($T_g$) was also measured by using differential scanning calorimeter. To identify the core-shell structure, pH of the composite latex solutions were measured.

The fluorescence intensity rations (F2.F1) of excimer (F2) to monomer (F1) of pyrene were measured as a function of the concentration of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). It was found that there were not gross changes in size and shape of sphere-shape micelles in the first micelle concentration, while at concentrations above the second critical micelle concentration (CMC) the micelles grew in size with increasing concentration. Fluorescence intensities of 8-anilinonaphthalene 1-sulfonate (ANS) were also monitored as a micellar probe with varying concentrations of SDS. Results suggested that a phase transition from sphere-shaped micelles to hemicapped rod-like micelles occurred at the second CMC (17). A general formula for the axial ratio of ellip-soil-shaped micelle in the first micelle concentration was suggested. According to this general formula, the axial ratio of SDS, sodium lauryl ether sulfate and sodium laurate were 1:1, 5:2, and 5:3, respectively. The electrolyte-induced phase transition from spherical to hemicapped rod-like micelles occurred and the size of hemicapped rod-like micelles grew with increasing electrolyte concentrations. The maximum concentrations of solubilzed benzene in sphere-shaped micelles and hemicapped rod-like micelles were measured by differential spectrohpotometry. The hemicapped rod-like micelles in the presence of electrolytes grew in size with increasing amount of benzene solubilized.

Although a transparent conductive film (TCF) belongs to essential supporting materials for many device applications such as touch screens, flat panel displays, and sensors, a conventional transparent conductive material, indium-tin oxide (ITO), suffers from considerable drawback because the price of indium has soared since 2001. Despite a recent falloff, a demand of ITO is expected to increase sharply in the future due to the trend of flat panel display technologies toward flexible, paper-like features. There have been recently extensive studies to replace ITO with new materials, in particular, carbon nanotubes (CNTs) since CNTs possess excellent properties such as flexibility, electrical conductivity, optical transparency, mechanical strength, etc., which are prerequisite to TCFs. This study fabricated TCFs with single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) produced by arc discharge. The SWCNTs were dispersed in water with a surfactant of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (NaDDBS) under sonication. Carbon black and fullerene nanoparticles were added to the SWCNT-dispersed solution to enhance contact resistance between CNTs. TCFs were manufactured by a filtration and transfer method. TCFs added with carbon black and fullerene nanoparticles were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV-vis spectroscopy (optical transmittance), and four-point probe measurement (sheet resistance).

Effects of surfactants and natural organic matter (NOM) on the sorption and reduction of tetrachloroethylene (PCE) and chromate with iron were examined in this study. PCE and chromate reduction by iron depended on the ionic type of the surfactants in this study. The apparent reaction rate constants of PCE with Triton X-100 and hexadecyltrimethyl ammonium (HDTMA) at one half and two times of the critical micelle concentration (CMC) were relatively higher than without surfactants because of the enhanced PCE partitioning and surface concentration. In the presence of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDDBS) at 2000 mg/L and NOM at 50 mg/L, the apparent reaction rate constants of PCE increased, but TCE production decreased. The enhanced removal rate of PCE was not due to the dechlorination, and the sorption was dominant iron with SDDBS and NOM. The apparent reaction rate constants of chromate by iron with Triton X-100 and NOM were 1.4-3.1 times lower than without surfactants while that with HDTMA was two times higher than without HDTMA, When the sorbed HDTMA molecules form admicelles, negatively-charged chromate has an affinity for the positively-charged HDTMA head group.

Monodispersed $Bi_2O_2CO_3$ nanoplates with an average width of 320 nm and thicknesses of 50-90 nm were successfully synthesized by a simple solvothermal method in a mixture solution of polyethylene glycol and $H_2O$. The obtained nanoplates were characterized by means of XRD, FT-IR, SEM and TEM. The effect of surfactant sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate on the morphology of $Bi_2O_2CO_3$ product was investigated. Under simulated solar light irradiation, $Bi_2O_2CO_3$ nanoplates exhibited superior photocatalytic activities towards the degradation of RhB as well as high chemical stability upon cycling photocatalytic test. The nanoplates also showed promising photodegradation ability for eliminating refractory pollutant of phenol. The excellent photocatalytic performance of $Bi_2O_2CO_3$ nanoplates as compared with P25-$TiO_2$ endows them as promising high efficiency photocatalysts.
Core-shell composite particles of organic/organic were polymerized by using monomers such as methyl methacrylate(MMA) and styrene(St) in the presence of sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate (SDBS) below critical micelle concentration(CMC) changing concentration, kind of initiators, emulsifiers, addition method of monomers and speed of agitation. In the PMMA/PSt and PSt/PMMA core-shell polymerization, to suppress the generation of new particles and to minimize the coagulation during the shell polymerization, the optimum conditions were $1.45{\times}10^{-5}mol/L$ and $2.91{\times}10^{-5}mol/L$ at concentration of SDBS respectively. The optimum concentration of the other initiator was $1.58{\times}10^{-3}mol/L$ of ammonium persulfate(APS) for core polymerization and $4.0{\times}10^{-4}mol/L$ of APS for shell polymerization.

The aim of this study was to isolate biocontrol bacteria that could antagonize brown rot of Dendrocalamus latiflorus, optimize the culture conditions, and develop an effective biocontrol preparation for brown rot of D. latiflorus. This study isolated a bacterium with an antagonistic effect on bamboo brown rot from healthy D. latiflorus rhizosphere soil. Morphology, molecular biology, and physiological biochemistry methods identified it as Bacillus siamensis. The following culturing media and conditions improved the inhibition effect of B. siamensis: the best culturing media were 2% sucrose, 1.5% yeast extract, and 0.7% potassium chloride; the optimal culturing time, temperature, pH, and inoculation amount were 48 h, 30℃, 6, and 20%. The optimum formula of the applying bacterial suspension was 14% sodium dodecyl benzene sulfonate emulsifier, 4% Na2HPO4·2H2O, 0.3% hydroxypropyl methylcellulose thickener, and 20% B. siamensis. The pot experiment results showed the control effect of applying bacterial suspension, diluted 1,000 times is still better than that of 24% fenbuconazole suspension. The applying bacterial suspension enables reliable control of brown rot in D. latiflorus.
