  • Purpose: This study was performed to identify the influencing factors on alienation among high school students. Method: Data was collected by questionnaires from 550 students of academic and vocational high schools in G city. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, pearson correlation coefficients, and stepwise multiple regression. Result: The scores of alienation among students in financially lower middle class and lower class were higher than those of the upper middle class students, resulting in significant differences(F=6.87, p=.00). A sense of alienation showed a significantly negative correlation with the scores of responding parenting style(r=-.32), family cohesion(r=-.33), school attachment(r=-.51), academic performance(r=-.34), peer relationships(r=-.38), self-control(r=-.43), and social skills(r=-.33). The most powerful predictor of alienation among high school students was school attachment and the variance explained was 26%. A combination of school attachment, self control, peer relationships, family cohesion, demanding parenting style, and academic performance account for 40% of the variance in alienation among high school students. Conclusion: This study suggests that school attachment, self control, peer relationships, family cohesion, demanding parenting style, and academic performance are significant influencing factors on alienation in high school students. Therefore, nursing strategy is needed to manage these revealed factors.

  • This study is to analyze experiences and perceptions of care workers for enhanced user choice since the introduction of voucher in Korea. The analysis shows that as it has increased the influence of service users on care workers'employment, dismissal, labor intensity, and so on, more and more care workers appear to experience 'labor alienation'such as weakened position in the labor domain, the sense of loss and frustration in the meaning of work, and identity confusion as a care work. Because the labor alienation felt by them possibly has a negative impact on quality of social service, it suggests to address improving service users'rights as well as protecting human rights and rights to work of care workers to provide a high quality social service.

The subjects were 548 middle and high school students who were 82 single mother-headed family's adolescents and 466 two-parent family's adolescents in Keoungbok. The data were analyzed by factor analysis, t-test, standard multiple- and hierarchical multiple regression(using SPSS 12.1). Major findings were as follows: (1) The single mother-headed family's adolescents were perceived less positive mother-adolescent communication and higher alienation than two-parent family's adolescents. (2) The adolescents' alienation was associated with mother-adolescent communication in both single mother-headed and two-parent family. The less positive parent-adolescent communication, the higher adolescents' alienation. The subjects were 253 middle school students. The data were analyzed with SPSS win 18.0 using Cronbach's ${\alpha}$, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheff$\acute{e}$ test and stepwise regression. The findings showed that problematic communication with the father was the strongest factor in explaining the alienation of male middle school students. The second strongest factor was the middles school student's open communication with the mother, and the third strongest factor was the middle school student's perception of physical health. Unlike male students, open communication with the father was the strongest factor in explaining the alienation of female middle school students. Problematic communication with the mother was the second strongest factor. Perception of physical appearance was the third strongest, and perception of physical health was the fourth strongest factor. Based on the results of the study, implications were discussed in terms of the alienation of male and female middle school students.

  • In 1950, Anne $H{\acute{e}}bert$ published Le Torrent, a collection of seven short stories. These stories containing many shocking themes and expressions have placed her one of the pioneers of modern novels in Quebec. This paper tries to analyze several phases of alienation described in the novels and the reactions of alienated caracters in their situation. Some examples of alienated and mentally or physically deformed characters in Le Torrent are Fran?ois, $St{\acute{e}}phanie$, Stella, etc. Although the author wanted readers to interpret these characters on ther individual level, this paper interprets them differently. The result of this study is as following. Alienation doesn't come from one's interior but his exterior. Society and history are major agents of alienation. The injustice of life imposed on the caracters results from political and religious underdevelopment, cultural lowness, absence of social security system and of universal education at that time. The conquest of Quebec by England left a deep and historical wound on the French Canadians. This fact is, in my opinion, one of the essential themes of Anne $H{\acute{e}}bert^{\prime}s$ novels. In spite of all these alienating situations, the reactions showed by the caracters of the novels are limited to escapist illusion, self-destruction, mistaken revenge, eternal submission, etc. In conclusion, Le Torrent by Anne $H{\acute{e}}bert$ which deeply approached themes of violence and alienation could be called authentic landscape of the inner world of Quebecois before 'la Revolution tranquille.'

  • The main concern of the study is the playwrights' perspectives toward the relationship between society and individuals rather than specific cultural or social circumstances. This study is justified in that the similarities of both playwrights not only provide an opportunity to bridge two different cultures, but they also help readers understand another culture and deepen the understanding of their own culture in the map of international literature. In their plays, both Miller and Cha express an individual's or a family's frustration, conflict, pleasure, and hope as reflected in the social circumstances. The characters take ideas and values from their social world and thrive or fail. Specifically, I have focused on three elements--obsession, generational value systems, and alienation. With three common features, I examine how closely Miller and Cha deal with ordinary people's tragedies.
