Rearing is important to the growth and development of the child. Traditionally, nurturing is a maternal role which is expressive role. Maternal role was composed of mothering and maternicity. Rearing is a key concept of psychology, education and sociology discipline. Knowledge of the rearing is an essential component for the development of nursing as a science and a profession. The first thing to study a concept is thought to be a concept analysis. So, in this study, concept analysis of the rearing was performed to clarify a concept of the rearing as a basis for the study of rearing afterward. The approach used for the concept analysis was the approach presented by Walker and Avant (1993). The defining attributes of rearing, identified in this study were (1) a series of caring activities in parent-child relation, (2) an essential of the growth and development of a child, (3) changeable according to time, place and object, (4) effort is necessary to the rearing, (5) positive or negative aspects (6) attitude, behavior, environment is sub-concepts of the rearing concept. The identified antecedents of the rearing was child-birth. The identified consequences of rearing were desirable or undesirable outcomes. Desirable outcome was the emotional satisfaction and growth in parent-child relation. Undesirable outcome was the emotional disorder and social maladaptation of the child. The empirical referents of the rearing could be the caring phenomena in parent-child relation.
Purpose: This study aimed to evaluate the relationships among quality of life, caregiver depression levels, and disease severity, especially motor function, in children with cerebral palsy. Methods: Data were collected through questionnaires using survey and interview from 80 caregivers of children with cerebral palsy. The caregivers' quality of life was measured using medical outcomes study 36-item short form health survey, and level of depression was scored using the beck depression inventory. In addition, children's motor function was evaluated using gross motor function measure-88 and functional independence measure scores. Results: Among 8 domains of medical outcomes study 36-item short form health survey, "physical functioning," "physical role functioning," "mental health," and "bodily pain" domains were significantly correlated to "total" percentage scores of gross motor function measure-88. In addition, "mental health" and "bodily pain" domains were correlated to each sub-dimension, including "lying and rolling," "sitting," "crawling and kneeling," "standing," and "walking, running, and jumping." Similarly, the "running" and "jumping" dimensions including motor function measures correlated with "transfer," "locomotion," and "motor subtotal" of functional independence measure scores. The beck depression inventory scores were negatively correlated to "lying and rolling," "sitting," "crawling and kneeling," and the "total" percentage scores of gross motor function measure-88. The beck depression inventory scores were negatively correlated to "sphincter control," "communication," "social cognition," "cognitive subtotal," and "total" functional independence measure scores. Conclusion: It is necessary to consider the quality of life and emotional problems of caregivers of CP children and support them both physically and psychologically with comprehensive rehabilitation.

Understanding teachers in the early childhood education is crucial as it can not only affect the quality of children's education but also cause many critical problems such as child abuse. A significant amount of research work has been made on the use of robots in childcare classrooms. The finding from the research has shown many advantages such as the improvement of learning performance, social/emotional skills, creativity, concentration period, physical and cognitive development. However, most of the study has been implemented at the K-12 classrooms but not much has been focused on the education at the early childhood classrooms. Importantly, it is very crucial to understand teachers' perception, demands and technical competence about the new teaching tool, in order to maximize its educational effect. This paper investigates some critical issues existing in both teaching and managing in the early childhood education. It will also explore teachers' perceptions and expectations on the use of robots to identify some dilemmas that exist in their working and teaching environment. A survey study was conducted with 119 early childhood educators in South Korea. It analyzed the educators' perception of using robots to improve their teaching performance and to make better outcomes for children, investigated job satisfaction and difficulties that they have in the current work environment. This paper concludes with several guidelines for integrating and setting robotics in the early childhood environment, in order to engender productive outcomes for the future early childhood education.
The present study is designed to develop surveying tools to measure stressors of and social supports for Radiological Technologists which may play a role to alleviate their stresses caused from their job environments. For this purpose, an analysis of reliability by factors of personal stressors was conducted on 890 radiologists who are working at 44 general hospitals in 16 cities and provinces across the country. The results of the analysis may be summed up as follows: Six factors in 2 concerned fields turned out to be major tools for use as items of questionnaires to measure social supports for and organizational culture of Radiological Technologists. The factors determined to be applicable for survey with reliability coefficient of more than 0.7 measured by factors for internal coherence included social supports on the job(0.90), off-the-job social supports(0.81), job satisfaction(0.80), devotion for job by length of service(0.81) and emotional devotion for job(0.80), all deemed to be appropriate as survey items. In the verifying process of the results, it was found that normative devotion for job(0.61) showed lower reliability as its statistical coefficient was analyzed to be less than 0.7. It seemed, therefore, necessary to reconstruct items or re-select such ones only that can maintain internal coherence in order to analyze appropriateness of related measuring tools, or to develop new measuring tools. Although the outcomes of this study can be used to verify reliability and appropriateness of concerned concepts to assess stresses caused during the job performance of Radiological Technologists, it may be improper to adopt them to measure all types of social supports and stresses that occur generally under the job environment. It is desired, however, to compare and analyze the findings of the present study with others and to utilize them as basic data for further development of tools that can maintain internal coherence in terms of reliability and appropriateness in spite of changing social environments.
After-school activities were examined for 449 rural children in first through seventh grades. Childrens engagement of after-school activities were significantly different by child and family characteristics, especially childrens age and behavior control ability. Findings showed a decline in amount of time spent studying and reading and a raise in going to a game-room. Childrens school achievement, emotional and social development were also differed by a range of after-school activities. Children spent more time in studying and reading showed higher grades, happiness, school life. Teachers reported greater aggressive behavior and less adjustment of school life among children participating more in game related activities and hanging out. Watching TV, doing house chores and visiting friends were not variables which showed different outcomes.

Objectives: With increasing concerns for the rapidly growing minority population in South Korea, this literature review addressed a range of mental health risks among multiethnic youths (MY) in South Korea by 1) comparing mental health outcomes with those of native-born youths and 2) identifying multiple layers of relevant environmental factors, from family and school relationships to culture. Methods: We reviewed 54 studies that fulfilled specific inclusion criteria. Results: Multiple common risk/protective factors, including family separation, family relationship quality, parental socioeconomic and mental health status, social relationships at school, and cultural acceptance, were noted. Conclusion: In general, empirical evidence indicates that minority youths have relatively heightened risks for emotional and behavioral problems. Future studies must elucidate the complex interplay between multiple risk and protective factors and the long-term adaptation and mental health service utilization of MY.

Objective: This study used a pre-test and post-test quasi-experimental design to evaluate the effectiveness of the Respected Parents & Respected Children parent education program developed for mothers of toddlers. Methods: A total of 40 mothers were assigned to two groups, an intervention group (n = 20) and a waiting group (n = 20). Mothers in the intervention group participated in six weekly sessions of the parent education program. After the termination of the program, differences between the preand post-test in terms of mothers' parenting characteristics (i.e., parenting behaviors, parenting efficacy, and parenting stress) and toddlers' social and emotional characteristics were compared in both groups. Results: Mothers in the intervention group showed significant improvement in their parenting behaviors and parenting efficacy and decreased parenting stress, whereas mothers in the waiting group did not show any significant differences between pre- and post-test scores. Mothers in the intervention group also reported a significant improvement in their toddlers' level of imitation/play. Conclusion: These findings indicate that the Respected Parents & Respected Children parent education program is effective in bringing about positive changes in both mothers' and toddlers' characteristics, which can be crucial for the future developmental outcomes of children.
The present study has the purpose of investigating the moderating effects of social support which college students may feel in the process of their emotional transfer from hopelessness to happiness. For this purpose, a survey was conducted by distributing questionnaires to 734 students enrolled in the 4-year-course colleges located in Jeollabuk-do. Frequency analysis, t-test, ANOVA, correlation analysis and hierarchial regression analysis were performed to process the data collected from questionnaires. Major outcomes of the analyses could be summed up as follows: First, hopelessness turned out to reduce happiness. Second, from the hierarchial regression analysis in which happiness was set as a dependent variable and hopelessness and social support were input gradually, it was learned that hopelessness affected happiness negatively (-) while social support exercised impact in the positive (+) direction as hopelessness had influence on happiness. Based on the results of the study, practical and political implications were discussed with a view to prepare positive mechanism such as promotion of college students' mental health and social support.

This study analyzes the effect of poverty on child development outcomes including academic achievement, self-esteem, depression/anxiety, attention problems, aggression, and delinquency. The poverty experiences among elementary school children are longitudinally observed during 3 years between the 4th grade and the 6th grade. When development outcomes are compared among persistently poor children, transitory poor children, and non-poor children, academic achievement is found to be significantly different. The analyses of the relationships between the poverty status and developmental trajectories show that academic achievement among non-poor children has improved over time, while the level of poor children's achievement has decreased. The result also shows that problematic behaviors such as attention problems, aggression, delinquency has improved over time among all the children. Yet, the gap between poor and non-poor children has not decreased. The multivariate analyses indicate that the effect of poverty remains statistically significant only for academic achievement after children's individual and familial characteristics are controlled. Past experiences of poverty in addition to the current poverty affect academic achievement and persistent poverty has a stronger effect than transitory poverty on academic achievement, although the findings are not consistent across all the estimated models.
Purpose: It remains controversial for the effect of daily functioning and quality of life on therapeutic exercise after stroke. The purpose of this study was to describe the effects on daily functioning and QOL. Methods: Outcome measures of daily functioning included, such as the Functional Independence Measure (FIM), Barthel index. Outcome measures of QOL included, such as Stroke Impact Scale(SIS) and the Medical Outcomes Study short-form 36-item questionnaire(SF-36). Results: 125 stroke patients were recruited, who were in or outpatients. The average age was 55.4 years. 64.8% were male. The mean Bathel index and FIM score was 63.7 and 87.5. The mean SIS score were higher in communication and mean SF-36 score were higher in physical pain. In/out patients are associated with SIS (communication, emotion) and SF-36(social function, energy or fatigue). Sex are associated with SF-36 (physical function). Other disease state are associated with SIS(hand function) and SF-36 (physical function). Paralysis portion are associated with SIS(communication, daily activity). Barthel index are associated with SIS(communication, mobility) and SF-36(social function, physical function, role limits due to emotional problems). Conclusion: These findings may provide the useful with rehabilitation professionals, who specilalized in the importance of QOL in designing treatment modalities.
