  • Composite reinforced fiber materials are used in lots of fields such as a part of aeronautic space, ship, machinery and so on because can make structure wished for necessary condition by control fiber direction and laminated sequence. As the use of advanced composites increase, specific techniques have been developed to repair changed composite structures. In order to repair the damaged part production high quality composite reinforced fiber are completed by control the surrounding temperature and press in autoclave. The quality is influenced heat exposure degree by chemical reaction for precessing. This study considerated influence limit of using by repair structure part and change of properties according to heat exposure degree for repairing.

Induction Heating of a Billet for Semi-Solid Forging (반용융 단조를 위한 소재의 유도 가열)

  • Semi-solid forging is a compound forging technology to deventional forging process. Among several steps of semi-solid forging process, the heating step of a billet prior to semi-solid forging step is necessarily required to obtain globular microstructure. For the forming operation to work properly, it is also important to heat the billet uniformly for the uniformity of solid-liquid distribution. To satisfy these requirements, induction heating has been generally used for a long time. This paper presents the method to find heating condition and the temperature distribution inside of a billet with a induction heating apparatus by comparing the computer simulation with experiment for aluminum alloys Al2024 and A356.

A Plan for Improving Quality of Traditional Soybean Paste (전통된장의 품질개선에 관한 연구)

  • This study is proceeded on the development of standard method for making soybean paste by Korean traditional method. Fermentation condition of Meju was 1) Pre-fermentation : 30 days in about 20$^{\circ}C$ room, 2) Main fermentation : 5 days in 30$^{\circ}C$ or upper temperature, 3) Post fermentation and drying : 30 days in well sunlightened room in January. Meju was soaked in 18% salt solution(Meju 7kg/salt solution 20L) for 35~40 days (from late February to early April) and after soaking Meju was filtered as unsoluble solute and crushed and put into traditional Korean receptacle(named 'Dok'). Crushed Meju was stored from early April to mid September and Meju was changed into soybean paste(Doen-jang). During fermentation amino acid nitrogen in Doen-jang was slightly increased in early period and decreased lately. It has been proved that by panel test soybean paste made by the method suggested in this study was more excellent than commercially fermented soybean paste. This study has presented the possibility of commercial production of soybean paste made by traditional method.

Photovoltaic Performance of Dye-sensitized Solar Cells assembled with Hybrid Composite Membrane based on Polypropylene Non-woven Matrix

  • Hybrid composite membranes were prepared by coating poly(ethylene oxide) and $SiO_2$ particles onto the porous polypropylene nonwoven matrix. Gel polymer electrolytes prepared by soaking the hybrid composite membranes in an organic electrolyte solution exhibited ionic conductivities higher than $1.1{\times}10^{-3}Scm^{-1}$ at room temperature. Dyesensitized solar cell (DSSC) employing the hybrid composite membrane with PEO and 10 wt % $SiO_2$ exhibited an open circuit voltage of 0.77 V and a short circuit current of 10.78 $mAcm^{-2}$ at an incident light intensity of 100 $mWcm^{-2}$, yielding a conversion efficiency of 5.2%. DSSC employing the hybrid composite membrane showed more stable photovoltaic performance than that of the DSSC assembled with liquid electrolyte.

Sooty Mold of Persimmon (Diospyros kaki) Caused by Cladosporium cladosporioides

  • In 2002, sooty mold was observed on persimmon (Diopyros kald) from the Jinju Agricultural Products Wholesale Market in Gyeongnam, Korea. The lesion of the sooty mold usually appeared as scars or wounds formed on the surface of the fruits. The symptom started with water soaking lesion, then the fruit softened rapidly. Colony of the causal pathogenic fungus was dark green in color on potato dextrose agar. The diameter of growing hyphae was 1-2 $\mu\textrm{m}$. The mostly one-celled conidia were ovoid, lemon or cylinder in shape, blastophores, and sized 46-132 $\mu\textrm{m}$. Erected conidiophores were long-branched chains and their lengths varied from 24 to 346 $\mu\textrm{m}$ with 2-5 $\mu\textrm{m}$ width. The optimum temperature for mycelial growth was about 2$0^{\circ}C$. Based on their mycological characteristics, the fungus was identified as Cladosporium cladosporioides. This is the first report in Korea of the sooty mold of persimmon caused by the said fungus.

Occurrence of Stem Rot of Disporum smilacinum Caused by Sclerotium rolfsii in Korea

  • In 2005 and 2007, a basal stem rot of Disporum smilacinum caused by Sclerotium rolfsii occurred sporadically in a herb farm at Hamyang, Korea. The symptom initiated with water-soaking lesion and progressed into stem rot and wilt of a whole plant. Severely infected plants were blighted and died eventually. White mycelial mats appeared on the lesion at early stage and a number of sclerotia were formed on the stem near the soil line. The sclerotia were globoid in shape, 1-3 mm in size and white to brown in color. The optimum temperature for the growth and sclerotia formation was 30 on PDA and the hyphal width was measured $3-8{\mu}m$. The typical clamp connections were observed in the hyphae of the fungus grown on PDA. On the basis of symptom, mycological characteristics and pathogenicity to the host plant, this fungus was identified as Sclerotium rolfsii Saccardo. This is the first report on the stem rot of D. smilacinum caused by S. rolfsii in Korea.

Quality of Popped Rice with Deep-frying for Salyeotgangjung (유탕처리된 쌀엿강정용 팽화쌀의 품질)

  • This experiment was carried out to clarify the effect of frying temperature and gelatinization method on the quality of popped rice for Salyeotgangjung. Frying at 220$^{\circ}C$ or 230$^{\circ}C$ gave a good expansion and score of sensory evaluation. But the frying oil began to smoke at 230$^{\circ}C$. There was no significant difference in the quality of popped rices between the treatments of minimum gelatinization after washing rice and moderate gelatinization after soaking for 80 minutes at 30$^{\circ}C$. In conclusion, frying washed rice with minimum gelatinization at 220$^{\circ}C$ would be considered as the best method for making Salyeotganagjung.

Solid-State Fermentation of Rice by Monascus Purpureus

  • The concept of Solid-State Fermentation is briefly explained in comparison to other fermentation principles, and several types of fermenters are presented. A recently developed "Swing Reactor" for SSF is shown. When inoculated on rice, the mould Monascus purpureus forms red pigments, Which can be used as food colors (Ang-kak, Red Rice). By Response Surface Methodology, serveral factors have been optimized for maximal red colour formation. Showing that presoaking time of rice, pH of soaking water, age of preculture and inoculum size were not of importance within the observed limits. For a fermentation time of 7 days, start humidity is optimal at 34% and temperature is optimal at 28.8 C. These results of small scale fermentation could be transferred to the Swing Reactor.

Possible Factors Affecting Crack Development in Ginseng Roots (인삼뿌리의 균열발생에 관한 연구)

  • The development of cracking in ginseng roots was studied to elucidate the factors affecting it in the field. The cracking of 6-year-old ginseng roots harvested in late October callld be induced in 2 days after soaking in water or in watersatllrated soil. However, it callld be slowed down by approximately 10 days when the roots were kept at a low temperature(5$^{\circ}C$). Roots excavated in late May did not develop cracking tinder the conditions tested. There was no significant difference between rice-straw shade and P.E. net shade in the rate of cracked ginseng roots. Which varied with ginseng varieties in relation to shade material. The rate of cracked roots was about 40% in 6-year plants, but it was extremely high (55.6%) in rusty roots. Healing of the wound formed by cracking was generally low but varied between harvest years.
