In this paper, a block based image approximation technique using the Self Affine System(SAS) from the fractal theory is suggested. Each block of an image is divided into 4 tiles and 4 affine mapping coefficients are found for each tile. To find the affine mapping cefficients that minimize the error between the affine transformed image block and the reconstructed image block, the matrix euation is solved by setting each partial differential coefficients to aero. And to ensure the convergence of coding block. 4 uniformly partitioned affine transformation is applied. Variable block size technique is employed in order to applynatural image reconstruction property of fractal image coding. Large blocks are used for encoding smooth backgrounds to yield high compression efficiency and texture and edge blocks are divided into smaller blocks to preserve the block detail. Affine mapping coefficinets are found for each block having 16$\times$16, 8$\times$8 or 4$\times$4 size. Each block is classified as shade, texture or edge. Average gray level is transmitted for shade bolcks, and coefficients are found for texture and edge blocks. Coefficients are quantized and only 16 bytes per block are transmitted. Using the proposed algorithm, the computational load increases linearly in proportion to image size. PSNR of 31.58dB is obtained as the result using 512$\times$512, 8 bits per pixel Lena image.

The quality of real-time voice communication over Internet Protocol networks based on telematics is affected by network impairments such as delays, jitters, and packet loss. To resolve this issue, this paper proposes a receiver-based enhancing method of VoIP speech quality. The proposed method enables users to deliver high-quality voice using playout control and signal reconstruction, which consists of concealment of lost packets, adaptive playout-buffer scheduling using active jitter estimation, and smooth interpolation between two signals in a transition region. The proposed algorithm achieves higher Perceptual Evaluation of Speech Quality (PESQ) values and low buffering delay than the reference algorithm.

With the increasing requirements for the survey and development of the ocean, the demands on the of AUV(Autonomous Underwater Vehicle) technologies have been increased. Reconstruction and replay of the AUV motion on the basis of the data stored during the execution of mission, can help the development of control strategies for AUVs such as mission planning and control algorithms. While an AUV cruises for her mission, her attitude and position data are is recorded. The data can be used for visualization of the motion in off-line. However, because most of the position data gathered from acoustic sensors have long time-interval and include intermittent faulty signal, the replayed motion by the graphic simulator can not demonstrate the motion as a smooth movie. In this paper, interpolation methods are surveyed to reconstruct the AUV position data. Then, an efficient 3D visualization method for AUV motion using the interpolation method is proposed. Simulation results arc also included to verify the proposed method.
SiC buffer layers were grown on Si(100) substrates by ultra-high-vacuum electron cryclotron resonance plasma (UHV ECR plasma) from $CH_4/H_2$ mixture at 700$^{\circ}C$. The electron densities and temperature were measured by single probe. The axial plasma potentials measured by emissive probe had the double layer structure at positive substrate bias. Piranha cleaning was carried out as ex-situ wet cleaning. Clean and smooth silicon surface were prepared by in-situ hydrogen plasma cleaning at 540$^{\circ}C$. A short exposure to hydrogen plasma transforms the Si surface from 1$\times$1 to 2$\times$1 reconstruction. It was monitored by reflection high energy electron diffraction (RHEED). The defect densities were analysed by the dilute Schimmel etching. The results showed that the substrate bias is important factor in hydrogen plasma cleaning. The low base pressure ($5\times10^{-10}$ torr) restrains the $SiO_2$ growth on silicon surface. The grown layers showed different characteristics at various substrate bias. RHEED and K-ray Photoelectron spectroscopy study showed that grown layer was SiC.
Arthroscopic anterior cruciate ligament reconstructions using bone-patella tendon-bone have been considered the best method by which others are compared. The notchyplasty is one of the important steps of this procedure and it is emphasized recently to prevent retear of the reconstructed ACL caused by impingement. However, until now, there is controversy about adequate amount of notchyplasty. Also, it is hard to examine the adequacy of notchyplasty even in the arthroscopic field, The purpose of this paper is to describe the surgical technique of notchyplasty, using the flexible reamer and preliminary result of its operation. In this study the results of ACL reconstruction with notchyplasty which is made by us were analized from January. 1994 to December, 1995. The results were as follows: 1. The notchyplasty with flexible reamer is the method that can be obtained adequate amount of removal, perfectly smooth notchyplasty. 2. The range of motion of the affected knee joint was normal ROM after post operation 6 month. 3. In the last follow up, 2 cases were positive in anterior drawer test 4 cases were positive in Lachmann's test and 1 knee was positive in Pivot shift test 4. Average Lysholm knee scoring scale was 70 points at preoperative and 92 points at the last follow up.

The paper shows that the combination of the hardware, NI PCI 6110E board and the software, Fourier and continuous wavelet transform(CWT) can be used to implement for extracting the important features of the real-time signal. The results confirmed that CWT produces the fast computation enough for the application of the real-time signal processing except the negligible time delay. In denoising case, because of the lack of translation invariance of wavelet basis, traditional wavelet thresholding leads to pseudo-Gibbs phenomena in the vicinity of discontinuities of signal. In this paper, in order to reduce the pseudo-Gibbs phenomena, wavelet coefficients are threshold and reconstruction algorithm is implement through shift-invariant gibbs free denoising algorithm based on wavelet transform footprint. The proposed algorithm can potentially be extended to more general signals like piecewise smooth signals and represents an effective solution to problems like signal denoising.

This paper presents a detailed realization of direct torque controlled induction motor drive for elevator applications. The drive is controlled according to the well-known space vector modulated direct control scheme (SVM-DTC). As the elevator drives are usually equipped with speed sensors, flux estimation is carried out using a current model where two stator currents are measured and accurate instantaneous rotor speed measurement is used to overcome the need for measuring stator voltages. Speed profiling for a comfortable elevator ride and other supervisory control activities to provide smooth operation are also explained. The drive performance is examined and controllers' parameters are fine-tuned using MATLAB/SIMULINK. The blocks used for flux and torque estimation and control in the offline simulation are compiled for real-time using dSPACE Microlabox. The performance of the drive has been verified experimentally. The results show good performance under transient and steady state conditions.
In this paper we propose a new mesh reconstruction scheme that produces a displaced subdivision surface directly from unorganized points. The displaced subdivision surface is a new mesh representation that defines a detailed mesh with a displacement map over a smooth domain surface, but original displaced subdivision surface algorithm needs an explicit polygonal mesh since it is not a mesh reconstruction algorithm but a mesh conversion (remeshing) algorithm. The main idea of our approach is that we sample surface detail from unorganized points without any topological information. For this, we predict a virtual triangular face from unorganized points for each sampling ray from a parameteric domain surface. Direct displaced subdivision surface reconstruction from unorganized points has much importance since the output of this algorithm has several important properties: It has compact mesh representation since most vertices can be represented by only a scalar value. Underlying structure of it is piecewise regular so it ran be easily transformed into a multiresolution mesh. Smoothness after mesh deformation is automatically preserved. We avoid time-consuming global energy optimization by employing the input data dependant mesh smoothing, so we can get a good quality displaced subdivision surface quickly.

In the dental field, the 3D tooth model in which each tooth can be manipulated individually is an essential component for the simulation of orthodontic surgery and treatment. To reconstruct such a tooth model from CT slices, we need to define the accurate boundary of each tooth from CT slices. However, the global threshold method, which is commonly used in most existing 3D reconstruction systems, is not effective for the tooth segmentation in the CT image. In tooth CT slices, some teeth touch with other teeth and some are located inside of alveolar bone whose intensity is similar to that of teeth. In this paper, we propose an image segmentation algorithm based on B-spline curve fitting to produce smooth tooth regions from such CT slices. The proposed algorithm prevents the malfitting problem of the B-spline algorithm by providing accurate initial tooth boundary for the fitting process. This paper proposes an optimal threshold scheme using the intensity and shape information passed by previous slice for the initial boundary generation and an efficient B-spline fitting method based on genetic algorithm. The test result shows that the proposed method detects contour of the individual tooth successfully and can produce a smooth and accurate 3D tooth model for the simulation of orthodontic surgery and treatment.

To detect defect of FPD(flat panel displays) is very difficult due to uneven illumination on FPD panel image. This paper presents a method to detect various types of defects using the approximated image of the uneven illumination by B-spline. To construct a approximated surface, corresponding to uneven illumination background intensity, while reducing random noises and small defect signal, only the lowest smooth subband is used by wavelet decomposition, resulting in reducing the computation time of taking B-spline approximation and enhancing detection accuracy. The approximated image in lowest LL subband is expanded as the same size as original one by wavelet reconstruction, and the difference between original image and reconstructed one becomes a flat image of compensating the uneven illumination background. A simple binary thresholding is then used to separate the defective regions from the subtracted image. Finally, blob analysis as post-processing is carried out to get rid of false defects. For applying in-line system, the wavelet transform by lifting based fast algorithm is implemented to deal with a huge size data such as film and the processing time is highly reduced.
