In this paper, we propose a novel method of denoising human motion using a bidirectional recurrent neural network (BRNN) with an attention mechanism. The corrupted motion captured from a single 3D depth sensor camera is automatically fixed in the well-established smooth motion manifold. Incorporating an attention mechanism into BRNN achieves better optimization results and higher accuracy than other deep learning frameworks because a higher weight value is selectively given to a more important input pose at a specific frame for encoding the input motion. Experimental results show that our approach effectively handles various types of motion and noise, and we believe that our method can sufficiently be used in motion capture applications as a post-processing step after capturing human motion.
We propose a method to determine camera parameters for character motion, which confiders the motion by itself. The basic idea is to approximately compute the area swept by the motion of the character's links that are orthogonally projected onto the image plane, which we call "Motion Area". Using the motion area, we can determine good fixed camera parameters and camera paths for a given character motion in the off-line or real-time camera control. In our experimental results, we demonstrate that our camera path generation algorithms can compute a smooth moving camera path while the camera effectively displays the dynamic features of character motion. Our methods can be easily used in combination with the method for generating occlusion-free camera paths. We expect that our methods can also be utilized by the general camera planning method as one of heuristics for measuring the visual quality of the scenes that include dynamically moving characters.
High frequency excitation terms in a cam profile can excite vibration of a cam follower system. In this paper, modified smoothing spline curves are used to reduce the high frequency terms. The essential difference between the proposed method and other existing approaches is its ability to make the principal cam motions smooth while still exactly satisfying boundary conditions of follower displacement, velocity and acceleration. The boundary values usually depend on the ramp properties of a cam. Our method, thus, allows designers to smooth the existing cam motion without any damages on its ramp areas. Because the ramp height, velocity and acceleration are maintained exactly, more radical smoothing is possible. An example shows that the proposed method can be a powerful tool of cam profile smoothing, which removes high frequency components in the cam profile excitations without any changes in ramp properties.

The balancing performance of an automatic ball balancer (ABB) in the vertical or horizontal position is studied in this paper. Considering the effects of gravity and angular velocity profiles, a physical model for an ABB installed on the Jeffcott rotor is adopted. The non-linear equations of motion for the rotor with ABB are derived by using Lagrange's equation. Based on derived equations, dynamic responses for the rotor are computed by using the generalized-u method. From the computed responses, the effects of gravity and angular velocity profiles on the balancing performance are investigated. It is found that the rotor with ABB can be balanced regardless of the gravity effect. It is also shown that a smooth velocity profile yields relatively smaller vibration amplitude than a non-smooth velocity profile.

In stamping-die manufacturing, the first step is to build die patterns for lost wax casting process. A recent industry trend is to manufacture the die pattern using 3-axis NC machining. This study identifies technical considerations of the pattern machining caused by the characteristics of Styrofoam material, and proposes technical methods related to establishing a process plan and generating tool paths for optimizing the pattern machining. In this paper, the process plan includes the fellowing three items: 1) deter-mining a global machining sequence-a sequence of profile, top, bottom machining and two set-ups, 2) extracting machining features from a pattern model and merging them, and 3) determining a machining sequence of machining features. To each machining feature, this study determines the machining start point, generates the approach tool path, and proposes a tool path linking method fur reducing the distance of the cutter rapid motion. Finally, a smooth tool path generation and an automatic feedrate adjustment (AFA) method are introduced far raising the machining efficiency.

The dynamic behavior of an automatic ball balancer (ABB) is studied considering the effects of gravity and angular velocity profiles. In this study, a physical model for an ABB installed on the Jeffcott rotor is adopted in order to investigate the effects of gravity and angular acceleration. The equations of motion for the rotor with ABB are derived by using Lagrange's equation. Based on derived equations, dynamic responses for the rotor are computed by using the generalized-o method. From the computed responses, the effects of gravity and angular velocity profiles on the dynamic behavior are investigated. It is found that the balancing of the rotor with ABB can be achieved regardless of gravity. It Is also shown that a smooth velocity profile yields relatively smaller vibration amplitude than a non-smooth velocity profile.
This case study is to embody the birth of a beautiful goddess out of seashells in a contemporary fashion design collection, on the basis of the mythology of The Birth of Venus. The main theme attempts to reinterpret the image of the goddess of love and beauty and express the organic vitality of seashells and oceanic feelings by swirls in motion. To accomplish this, three dimensional silhouette of layered forms of voluminous outer and fitted inner is applied to design ideas with spiral curves. The opposite texture of something sculptural and transparent versus smooth and shiny is used to express the layered structure of seashells with the delicacy of goddess. Neutral colours and different tones of pink appeal to oceanic feelings and feminine emotion in a modern way. Various techniques by the geometric simplicity of flat patterns and pleating with boning are also performed to express the vital movement of organism. Throughout the whole process of this case study, the conceptual idea of Swirls in Motion - a goddess and seashells is reinterpreted to a contemporary fashion by personal and creative design development process. In particular, it is evaluated by the process of primary researches, various design developments and experimentations to the main theme.

The existing conventional motion controller does not perform well in the presence of nonlinear properties, uncertain factors, and servo lag phenomena of industrial actuators. Hence, a feasible and effective fuzzy self-tuning proportional integral derivative (PID) and feed-forward control scheme is introduced to overcome these problems. In this design, a fuzzy tuner is used to tune the PID parameters resulting in the rejection of the disturbance, which achieves better performance. Then, both velocity and acceleration feed-forward units are added to considerably reduce the tracking error due to servo lag. To verify the capability and effectiveness of the proposed control scheme, the hardware configuration includes digital signal processing (DSP) which plays the main role, dual-port RAM (DPRAM) to guarantee rapid and reliable communication with the host, field-programmable gate array (FPGA) to handle the task of the address decoder and receive the feed-back encoder signal, and several peripheral logic circuits. The results from the experiments show that the proposed motion controller has a smooth profile, with high tracking precision and real-time performance, which are applicable in various manufacturing fields.

This paper introduces a robot eye module, of which two degree-of-freedom motions, i.e. panning and tilting, are driven by a pair of wires. The main feature of the module is that each wire can generate push-pull motion without buckling. It is thanks to a Teflon tube which guides the path of the moving wire. End points of the tube and wire have pivot elements so that a smooth push-pull motion is produced even when the end point of wire is moved by eye rotation. This mechanism helps the eye module to be very compact. In this paper, the structure of the robot eye module is introduced in detail, and the required motor angles for a certain direction of eye line are investigated analytically and experimentally.

This paper presents the optimal motion control for 3-axis SCARA robot by using $LabVIEW^{(R)}$. Specifically, for optimal motion control of 3-axis SCARA robot, we study velocity profile based on finite jerk(the first derivative of acceleration) and optimal gain tunig based on frequency response method by using $LabVIEW^{(R)}$. The velocity optimization with finite jerk aims at generating the smooth velocity profile of robot. Velocity profile based on finite jerk is acquired and applied to 3-axis SCARA robot by using $LabVIEW^{(R)}$. DSA(Dynamic Signal Analyzer) for frequency response method is programed by using $LabVIEW^{(R)}$. We obtain the bode plot of transfer function about 3-axis SCARA robot by using DSA, and perform the gain tuning considering dynamic characteristic based on the bode plot. These experiments have shown that the proposed motion control can reduce vibration displacement and response error rate each 33.7% and 51.7% of 3-axis SCARA robot.
