Review of Active Rotor Control Research in Canada

  • The current status of Canadian research on rotor-based actively controlled technologies for helicopters is reviewed in this paper. First, worldwide research in this field is overviewed to put Canadian research into context. Then, the unique hybrid control concept of Carleton University is described, along with its key element, the "stiffness control" concept. Next, the smart hybrid active rotor control system (SHARCS) projected's history and organization is presented, which aims to demonstrate the hybrid control concept in a wind tunnel test campaign. To support the activities of SHARCS, unique computational tools, novel experimental facilities and new know-how had to be developed in Canada, among them the state-of-the-art Carleton Whirl Tower facility or the ability to design and manufacture aeroelastically scaled helicopter rotors for wind tunnel testing. In the second half of the paper, details are provided on the current status of development on the three subsystems of SHARCS, i.e. that of the actively controlled tip, the actively controlled flap and the unique stiffness-control device, the active pitch link.

Lighting Environment Design Research for Well-Being of Elderly People (고령자의 삶의 질 향상을 위한 조명환경 디자인 연구)

  • It is necessary to conduct a basic research on fusion of ighting design or lighting environment to improve the health and quality of life of elderly people. The purpose of this study is to analyze the lighting situation of elderly people 's residential facilities in terms of space environment design plan and to analyze the trends in smart home, design and technology. It is to provide basic data for the prototype of lighting fixtures for elderly people living facilities considering functional, physiological and emotional characteristics. For the study, the target sites were selected and the results of the illumination survey of the target facilities were divided into two types of spaces, residential and other public spaces, and their location, lighting fixtures' type, color temperature, illuminance. The results of the survey showed that the overall physical illumination compared to the recommended illuminance for the elderly satisfied the recommended range and provided the appropriate brightness for the elderly. However, in the application layout of the lighting fixtures, a monotonous arrangement and a lighting fixtures type consisting entirely of simple square type fixtures and downlight types were applied. It would be desirable to use different types of lighting fixtures in the design for various functions, such as making the environment more comfortable. Future research will propose a prototype for the design direction of the subdivided lighting fixtures that classify the space according to functions and understand the vision problem of the elderly while aesthetically.

Design and Implementation of a Control System for the Phase Shift Full-bridge Converter of the On-board Charger for Electric Vehicles (전기자동차 탑재형 배터리 완속 충전기의 위상천이 풀-브릿지 컨버터 제어시스템 설계 및 구현)

  • In this paper, first, a linearized modeling of a phase shift full-bridge converter used in chargers of electric vehicles is derived by using state-space approach and transfer functions from the duty ratio to output voltage and the inductor current are also verified. second, control systems for the output voltage and the inductor current are designed using the root locus technique. It is illustrated by experimental results that the control performance on the output variables is satisfied with the designed digital control system based on a automobile qualified 32-bit microcontroller.

Development of a Peristaltic Micropump with Lightweight Piezo-Composite Actuator Membrane Valves

  • A peristaltic micropump with lightweight piezo-composite actuator (LIPCA) membrane valves is presented. The micropump contained three cylinder chambers that were connected by microchannels and two active membrane valves. A circular miniature LIPCA was developed and manufactured to be used as actuating diaphragms. The LIPCA diaphragm acted as an active membrane valve that alternate between open and closed positions at the inlet and outlet in order to produce high pumping pressure. In this LIPCA, a lead zirconium titanate ceramic with a thickness of 0.1 mm was used as an active layer. The results confirmed that the actuator produced a large out-of-plane deflection. During the design process, a coupled field analysis was conducted in order to predict the actuating behavior of the LIPCA diaphragm; the behavior of the actuator was investigated from both a theoretical and experimental perspective. The active membrane valve concept was introduced as a means for increasing pumping pressure, and microelectromechanical system techniques were used to fabricate the peristaltic micropump. The pumping performance was analyzed experimentally in terms of the flow rate, pumping pressure and power consumption.

  • 상황 인지 컴퓨팅에서 상황정보 추론 기능은 상황정보 관리를 위해 중요한 기능 중의 하나이다. 상황정보 추론 기능은 하위 레벨의 상황정보들로부터 사용자의 상황을 나타내는 상위 레벨의 상황정보를 제공한다. 인프라 기반 지능형 공간에서 중앙 집중 형의 상황정보 관리 시스템은 상황정보 추론을 위한 자원 소모를 고려할 필요가 없었다. 하지만 자원이 제약된 장치들로만 구성된 개인 지능형 공간에서는 공간 내 전체의 자원 소모뿐만 아니라 상황정보 관리자 역할을 하는 장치 (coordinator)들의 자원 소모가 최소화 되어야 한다. 본 논문에서는 중앙 집중적인 상황정보 추론 작업을 분배하여 개인 지능형 공간 내의 다른 장치들에게 작업을 분산시키는 상황정보 추론 작업 분배 기법을 제안한다. 제안된 분배 기법은 건강정보, 환경정보, 지리정보 같이 상황정보가 자주 발생하는 환경에서 더 효율적이다. 상황정보 추론작업을 분배 함으로써 상황정보 추론을 위한 개인 지능형 공간의 전체의 처리량을 크게 증가시키지 않으면서 코디네이터의 처리량을 줄일 수 있다. 본 논문의 작업분배 기법은 상황정보 추론의 역할을 하는 코디네이터와 분산된 로컬 상황정보 추론기능을 제안한다. 본 논문에서는 제안된 상황정보 추론 기능을 개인 지능형 공간을 구성하는 장치들에 각각 구현하고 상황정보 추론을 위한 처리부하를 측정하여 제안된 기법의 실행 가능성을 보였다.

Beamforming Algorithm for Smart Antenna System in Multi-mode Environment (다중 모드 지원이 가능한 스마트 안테나 시스템의 빔형성 알고리즘)

  • This paper proposes a new beamforming algorithm to select beamforming gain or/and diversity gain in CDMA2000, W-CDMA, W-LAN channel according to signal environment on the multipath. In this paper, we present the criteria to obtain deversity gain at any point that based on quantized experimental value. Proposed method proposes represents a performance better than conventional algorithm adopting the largest two eigenvector when angle spread is exit. From the results of performance analysis through various simulation, it is confirmed that proposed method is far superior about $3{\sim}4$ times compare to conventional method in signal environment.

  • Nowadays, Computing environment is changing to ubiquitous. In such ubiquitous computing environments, entities expect to access resources and services at any time from anywhere. Therefore, tile wily how to establish trust relationship among previously unknown devices or resources is needed under such environments. In this paper, we firstly review a model to delegate the trust to communicating entities in ubiquitous environment and its security problems(e.g., malicious right-delegation and revocation of right-delegation). Then, we design a new model for secure delegation over communication entities which is based on two-party signature scheme, and implement it.

  • The recent proliferation of multimedia data necessitates the effectively and efficiently retrieving of multimedia data. These research not only focus on the retrieving methods of text matching but also on using the multimedia data features. Therefore, this paper is a similarity measurement method of trajectory using indexing information of moving object in video, for similarity measurement. This method consists of 2 steps. Firstly, Video data is processed indexing for trajectory extraction of moving objects using CCTV. Finally, we describe to compare DTW(Dynamic Time Warping) to TSR(Tansent Space Representation) algorithm.

  • Recently, many kind of smart projectiles are being developed. In case of smart projectile, studying in advance, it uses a navigation data acquired from the GNSS receiver to check its location on the geocentric(WGS84) coordinates and to estimate P.O.I(point of impact). However, because of various error inducing factors, the result of positioning involve some errors. We introduce the advanced algorithm for the reconstruction of a navigation trajectory using weighted PDOP, based on a simulated trajectory acquired from PRODAS. It is very fast and robust to noise and shows reliable output. It can be widely used to estimate an actual trajectory of a projectile.

  • In this paper, we concern the stability of smart space by using the robust digital controller. The proposed methodologies are based on the intelligent digital redesign (IDR). More precisely, we represent the nonlinear and uncertain analog system as the Takaki-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model. Then the IDR problem can be reduced to find the digital gains minimizing the norm distance between the closed-loop states of the analog and digital control. Its constructive conditions are expressed as the linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). At last, a numerical example, HVAC system, is demonstrated to visualize the feasibility of the proposed methodology.
