Smart sensing plays a key role in a variety of IoT applications, and its importance is growing more and more together with the development of artificial intelligence. Therefore the importance of smart sensors cannot be overemphasized. However, most studies related to smart sensors have been focusing on specific application purposes, for example, security, energy saving, monitoring, and there are not much effort on researches on how to efficiently configure various types of smart sensors to be needed in the future. In this paper, a component-based framework with hierarchical structure for efficient construction of smart sensor is proposed and its application to smart home is designed and implemented. The proposed method shows that various types of smart sensors to be appeared in the near future can be configured through the design and development of necessary components within the proposed software framework. In addition, since it has a layered architecture, the configuration of the smart sensor can be expanded by inserting the internal or external layers. In particular, it is possible to independently design the internal and external modules when designing an IoT application service through connection with the external device layer. A small-scale smart home system is designed and implemented using the proposed method, and a home cloud operating as an external layer, is further designed to accommodate and manage multiple smart homes. By developing and thus adding the components of each layer, it will be possible to efficiently extend the range of applications such as smart cars, smart buildings, smart factories an so on.
The recent emergence of smart phones, wearable devices, and even the IoT concept made it possible for various objects to interact one another anytime and anywhere. Among many of such smart services, a smart home service typically requires a large number of sensors to recognize the residents' activities. For this reason, the ideas on activity recognition using the data obtained from those sensors are actively discussed and studied these days. Furthermore, plenty of sensors are installed in order to recognize activities and analyze their patterns via data mining techniques. However, if many of these sensors should be installed for IoT smart home service, it raises the issue of cost and energy consumption. In this paper, we proposed a new method for reducing the number of sensors for activity recognition in a smart environment, which utilizes the principal component analysis and clustering techniques, and also show the effect of improvement in terms of the activity recognition by the proposed method.

This study introduces an analysis and control method for the variation of neutral point current in a grid-tied three-level neutral point clamped (NPC) converter under various grid imbalance operating conditions. Various fault cases with unbalanced amplitude and phase are systematically categorized and described using a unified metric called the imbalance factor. The fundamental component of neutral point current is generated under grid imbalance cases. The pattern and behavior of this fundamental component of neutral point current highly depend on the imbalance factor regardless of the particular type of grid fault cases. The control scheme for regulating the negative sequential component of AC input current effectively reduces the size of the fundamental component of neutral point current under a wide range of grid imbalance cases. The control scheme will enable a grid-tied three-level NPC converter to operate reliably and stably under various types of grid faults.

An intelligent performance diagnostic program using the Neural Network was proposed for PW206C turboshaft engine. It was selected as a power plant for the tilt rotor type Smart UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle) which has been developed by KARI (Korea Aerospace Research Institute). The measurement parameters of Smart UAV propulsion system are gas generator rotational speed, power turbine rotational speed, exhaust gas temperature and torque. But two measurement such as compressor exit pressure and compressor turbine exit temperature were added because they were difficult each component diagnostics using the default measurement parameter. The performance parameters for the estimate of component performance degradation degree are flow capacities and efficiencies for compressor, compressor turbine and power turbine. Database for network learning and test was constructed using a gas turbine performance simulation program. From application results for diagnostics of the PW206C turboshaft engine using the learned networks, it was confirmed that the proposed diagnostics could detect well the single fault types such as compressor fouling and compressor turbine erosion.

Principal component analysis (PCA) was conducted using hydrochemical data in four testbeds (A to D) built for the development of site characterization technologies to assess the hydrochemical processes controlling the hydrochemistry in each site. The PCA results indicated the nitrogen loading to deep bedrock aquifers through permeable fractures in Testbed A, the chemical weathering enhanced with the biodegradation of petroleum hydrocarbons in Testbed B, the reductive dechlorination in Testbed C, and the different hydrochemistry depending on the depth to bedrock in Testbed D, consistent with the characteristics of each site. In Testbeds B and D, outliers seemed to affect the PCA result probably due to the small number of samples, whereas the PCA result was still consistent with site characteristics. This study result indicates that the PCA is widely applicable to hydrochemical data for the assessment of major hydrochemical processes in contamination sites, which is useful for site characterization when combined with other site characterization technologies, e.g., geological survey, geophysical investigation, borehole logging. It is suggested that PCA is applied in contaminated sites to interpret hydrochemical data not only for the distribution of contamination levels but also for the assessment of major hydrochemical processes and contamination sources.
Recently, smart wearable products, including electromyography (EMG) measurement devices and clothing, have been developed to monitor users' exercise levels, muscle activation, and muscle balance more effectively during fitness activities. However, technical and socioeconomic barriers, such as flexibility and durability, still pose challenges in terms of comfort, ease of wear, and wearability of smart clothing, which includes devices and circuits. To address these issues, this study developed a wearable EMG device integrated with clothing to collect valid EMG signals from desired muscles while maintaining comfort, functionality, and ease of wear. After deriving a combined structure that could stably position the wearable device within the clothing, a prototype was manufactured and evaluated for fit, compression, comfort, and exercise comfort test by ten participants (height = 176.2 cm, weight = 76.4 kg, chest circumference = 101.2 cm). The study found that the prototype had smaller circumferences around the chest, waist, and abdomen compared to commercial products, resulting in lower ratings for wearing comfort and ease of wear. However, the prototype received high ratings for fitting, pressure, and the exercise comfort test. Valid signals were obtained when the EMG device was combined to the prototype for the rectus femoris muscle, indicating stable positioning of the device during exercise.

In order to solve the urban problems caused by the increase of the urban population, the construction of smart city applying the latest technology is being carried out all over the world. In particular, we will create a smart city platform that utilizes data generated in the city to collect and store and analyze, thereby enhancing the city's continuous competitiveness and resilience and enhancing the quality of life of citizens. However, existing smart city platforms are not enough to construct a platform for smart city as a platform for solution elements such as IoT platform, big data platform, and AI platform. To complement this, we will reanalyze the existing overseas smart city platform and IoT platform in a comprehensive manner, combine the technical elements applied to it, and apply it to the future Korean smart city platform. This paper aims to investigate the trends of smart city platforms used in domestic and foreign countries and analyze the technology applied to smart city to study smart city platforms that solve various problems of the city such as environment, energy, safety, traffic, environment.

The study proposes component models in developing an efficient platform for internet-based structural analysis. Since a structural analysis requires an operation of complicated algorithms, a client-side computation using X-Internet is preferred to a server-side computation to provide a flexible service for multi-users. To compete with the user-friendly interfaces of available commercial analysis programs, a window-based interface using Smart Client was applied. Also, component-based programming was performed with the considerations on reusability and expandability so that active Preparation for future change or modification could be feasible. The components describe the whole system by subdivision and simplification. In the relationship between upper-and lower-level components and also in the relationship between components and objects, a unified interface was used to clearly classify the connection between the libraries. By performing data communication between different types of platforms using XML WebService, a conner-stone of data transfer is proposed for the future integrated CAE. The efficiency of the developed platform has been examined through a sample structural analysis and design on planar truss structures.
The security of the data dealt by the smart city system is important because they have many privacy and public information. Therefore, it is necessary to study security in the smart city system. In this paper, we define the security factors for the smart city system composed of three tiers and describe the technologies for each. In addition, the design and implementation of the security layer in the Smart City middleware for the security management of the urban component in the Smart City Infrastructure and middleware, which is one of the most important issues in the Smart City system, is introduced.
In the electronic component assembly business, when product defects occur, it is important to track incoming raw material defects or work defects, and it is important to improve suppliers or work sites according to the results. The core task of the smart factory is to build an integrated data hub to process storage, management, and analysis in real time, and to manage cluster processes, energy, environment, and safety. In order to improve reliability through accurate analysis and collection of production data by real-time monitoring of production site management for electronic parts-related small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the establishment of a smart factory is essential. This paper was developed to be utilized in the construction by defining the system configuration method, smart factory-related technology and application cases, considering the characteristics of SMEs related to electronic components that want to introduce a smart factory.
