The prefabricated vertical drains (PVDs) are one of the most widely used techniques to accelerate the consolidation of soft clay deposits and dredged soil. Discharge capacity is one of the factors affecting the behavior of PVDs. In the field, a PVD is confined by clay or dredged soil, which is normally remolded during PVD installation. Under field conditions, soil particles may enter the PVD drainage channels, and the consolidation settlement of the improved subsoil may cause 131ding of the PVD. These factors will affect the discharge capacity of the PVDs. In this study an experimental study was carried out to estimate the discharge capacity of three different types of PVDs by utilizing the large-scale laboratory model testing and small-scale laboratory model testing equipments. The several factors such as confinement condition (confined by soft marine clay or dredged soil) and variations of the discharge capacity were studied with time under soil specimen confinement, The test results indicated that discharge capacity decreases with increasing load, time, and hydraulic gradient. With load application, the cross-sectional area of the drainage channel of PVD decreases because the filter of PVD is pressed into the core. The discharge capacity of the soft marine clay-confined PVDs is much lower than that of the dredged soil-confined PVDs.
The Purpose of this research is to analyze and discuss the development of yellowtail aquaculture industry in Japan and its management structure. The research includes the following : (a) It confirms the industrial conditions of yellowtail aqaculture which has a national technical and mass production system that has been developed at great speed. (b) It analyzes yellowtail aqaculture development from a family - oriented management to a large scale production. (c) It examines how the fisheries cooperatives harmonized their role with the object of individual aqaculture management and aqaculture fishing ground management. The reasons for this study focusing on the yellowtail aqaculture industry of Japan are : (a) The yellowtail aqaculture is regared as a typical field in aqaculture because it reflects the general aqaculture history, quantity of fisheries aqaculture product, the number of fishermen involved in this industry, technology , and the live and fish market formation in Japan. (b) The aqaculture has the most powerful entrepreneurial in financial and management style. The aqaculture industry also has a most individual management style which includes planned production and shipping strategy. This research has attempted to study the industrial processes of fisheries aqaculture industry and its management development, and focused on the yellowtail aqaculture industry of Japan. This work also includes data about the aqaculture management of fisheries cooperatives and case by case analysis of aqaculture production. The following results were obtained from this study : First, even though ocean, weather conditions, and widespread propagation of places suitable for aqaculture in Japan were crucial factors in aqaculture development, it must be pointed out that fisheries policy in Japan changed from "catching" in the 1960s to "cultivating". Second, the widespread course of fisheries cultivating technology in Japan has had two characteristics. One is that early aqaculture technology spread to the southern part of Japan and the other is that the metal nets were widely used in the northern part in the 1970s. Japan's yellowtail aqaculture industry's overproduction was due to metal nets. However, the use of mwtal nets also contributed to the improvement of aqaculture and the strategic aspects of aqaculture management. In addition, it should be stressed that Kagoshima prefecture as the pioneer of metal nets contributed to fisheries aqaculture development in japan. Third, as aqaculture technology developed, entrepreneurial qualities of aqaculture management also developed this field into a large scale business. Even though it is not clear, large scale management of yellowtail aqaculture shows evidence of superiority over small andmedium - size management of yellowtail aqaculture. Fourth, yellowtail aqaculture management in Japan hascontributed to the production system and aqaculture strategy to meet consumers' needs and market demands from weather - oriented trational fisheries industry, which overcame their overproduction structure. Fifth, Japanese fisheries cooperative played very important roles in the prevention of fishing grounds production from destruction and in promoting suitable aqaculture facilities so that aqaculture could grow continually.ld grow continually.

This Study puts the purpose to explicate the regionalities of land-lease farming by a comparative analisis of the five case study areas in Kungpook Province as the agricultural space system of Teagu metropolitan city. For the regional comparative analysis the province was divided into the three zones with the distance from the central city(Teagu): urban fringes, intermediate and remote zone, and then subdivided into the five regions by farming systems : horticulture, rice-farming, and dry-field farming. The data were collected from 77 land-leasing farmers by questionnaire and interview with farm managers in 5 sample villages representing the regionalities of the above five regions respectively. In spite of relatively restricted scope of the research areas, the analytical results appear remarkable regional differences in the characteristics of land-lease farming within a single agricultural space system. In the final analysis the regionalities of the five land-lease farming regions could be described respectively as follows. (1) Koryong-Gun in the inner urban fringe zone : The developing land-lease farming region of commercialized suburban horticulture with medium scale. (2) Songju-Gun in the outer urban fringe zone : The developing land-lease farming region of highly commercialized horticulture with large scale. (3) Uisong-Gun in the intermediate zone : The stagnated land-lease farming region of commercialized rice-farming with large scale. (4) Yongil-Gun in the intermediate zone : The stagnated land-lease farming region of commercializing dry-field farming with medium scale. (5) Ponghwa-Gun in the remote zone : The stagnated and delayed region in commercializing of intermountain dry-field land-lease farming with small scale. These varied regionalities resulted from the diverse spatiality as a complex of spatial orders and localities. The spatial orders in this study are frequently recognizable as a form of distance-decay, and the locality of a region is determined mostly by the its peculiarity of physical and population conditions. In the comparative analysis of the regionalities the degree of commercialization of a region is a most comprehensive and useful frame of reference because it reflects the degree of development of capitalist land-lease farming. Finally these apparent regional differentiations of land-lease farming within a agricultural space system raise the problem of impracticality of the existing uniform logic on the land-lease farming such as "large scale farms share larger part of leased farmland." This problem suggests the urgent need of reappraisal of many aspatial logics and theories on the land-lease farming.
In order to investigate on the field performance of 3.5PS power tiller and to obtain the optimum using conditions of it, this experiment has been carried on the plowing operation, the rotary harrowing operation and the ridging operation that compared 3.5PS power tiller(KC-450) with the existing 5PS(DT-40) and 8PS(DT-85) power tiller. It has been performed at Suck Jung-Dong, Ansung Country, from March to October in 1980. The results of this field test were obtained as follows; 1. The plowing performance of KC-450 tiller was found to be 125min/10a that was lower than that of DT-85 tiller by 26min/10a in the effective plowing speed 0.9m/sec. 2. The field efficiency of KC-450 tiller was the highest among the power tillers as to be 82 persent that was higher than that of DT-85 tiller by 5 persent in the effective plowing speed 1m/sec. 3. The rotary harrowing performances of DT-40 tiller and DT-85 tiller were higher than that of KC-450 tiller in the rotary harrowing operation of the same speed, and the field efficiency of KC-450 tiller and DT-40 tiller were higher than that of DT-85 tiller in the rotary harrowing operation. 4. The ridging Performance of testing power tillers were nearly equality in the ridging operation of the same speed, and the field efficiency of testing tillers were higher KC-450 tiller than DT-40 tiller, DT-40 tiller than DT-85 tiller. 5. The work performance of power tiller increased with increase in the size of field area. Work performance and field efficiency of KC-450 tiller were higher than other tillers below 8a in field size 6. DT -85 tiller was more useful in deep plowing depth. But below 8a in field size KC-450 tiller was more easily operated and its field efficiency was higher 7. KC-450 tiller should be more useful to operate in the small size field or in the small scale farming and for the cultivation of vegetables, gardening plants, medicinal herb and tobacco plants, or for the cultivation in vinyl house.
Three-dimensional (3-D) optimally-interpolated sea surface temperature (SST) field was produced by using AQUA/AMSR-E satellite data, and its limitations were described by comparing the temporal average of sea surface temperatures. The 3-D OI (Optimum Interpolation) SST showed a small error of less than $0.05^{\circ}C$ in the central North Pacific, but yielded large errors of greater than $0.4^{\circ}C$ at the coastal area where the satellite microwave data were not available. OI SST composite around pixels with no observation due to heavy rainfall or cloudy pixels had estimation errors of $0.1-0.15^{\circ}C$. Comparison with temporal means showed a tendency that overall OI SSTs were underestimated around heavy cloudy pixels and smoothed out by reducing the magnitude of SST fronts. In the low-latitude areas near the equator, OI SST field produced discontinuity, originated from the window size for the OI procedure. This was mainly caused by differences in the spatial scale of oceanic features. Infernal Rossby deformation radius, as a measure of spatial stale, showed dominant latitudinal variations with O(1) difference in the North Pacific. This study suggests that OI SST methodology should consider latitudinally-varying size of window and the characteristics of spatial scales of oceanic phenomena with substantial dependency on latitude and vertical structure of density.

As a method of countermeasure to bed degradation and armoring phenomena of bed material in the downstream area of dam reservoirs, sediment augmentation (replenished sediment) has been carried out in many Japanese rivers. In general, bed of the replenished sediment site is composed of rocks, because the site is located in the downstream area of the dams and sediment supply is very small. Bed deformation process has been researched by many researchers. However, most of them can treat movable bed only and cannot be applied to the bed deformation process of sediment on rocks. If the friction angle between the sediment and the bed surface is assumed to be the same as the friction angle between the sediment and the sediment, sediment transport rate must be smaller without sediment deposition layer on the rocks. As a result, the reproduced bed geometry is affected very well. In this study, non-equilibrium transport process of non-cohesive sediment on rigid bed is introduced into the horizontal two dimensional bed deformation model and the model is applied to the erosion process of replenished sediment on rock in the Nakagawa, Japan. Here, the Japanese largest scale sediment augmentation has been performed in the Nakagawa. The results show that the amounts of the eroded sediment and the remained sediment reproduced by the developed numerical model are $56300m^3$ and $26800m^3$, respectively. On the other hand, the amounts of the eroded sediment and the remained sediment measured in the field after the floods are $56600m^3$ and $26500m^3$, respectively. The difference between the model and field data is very small. Furthermore, the bed geometry of the replenished sediment after the floods reproduced by the developed model has a good agreement with the measured bed geometry after the floods. These results indicate that the developed model is able to simulate the erosion process of replenished sediment on rocks very well. Furthermore, the erosion speed of the replenished sediment during the decreasing process of the water discharge is faster than that during the increasing process of the water discharge. The replenished sediment is eroded well, when the top of the replenished sediment is covered by the water. In general, water surface level is kept to be high during the decreasing process of the discharge during floods, because water surface level at the downstream end is high. Hence, it is considered that the high water surface level during the decreasing process of the water discharge affects on the fast erosion of the replenished sediment.
A knowledge map, which has been recently applied in various fields, is discovering characteristics hidden in a large amount of information and showing a tangible output to understand the meaning of the discovery. In this paper, we suggested a knowledge map for research trend analysis based on keyword-relation networks which are constructed by using a database of the domestic journal articles in the computer engineering field from 2000 through 2010. From that knowledge map, we could infer influential changes of a research topic related a specific keyword through examining the change of sizes of the connected components to which the keyword belongs in the keyword-relation networks. In addition, we observed that the size of the largest connected component in the keyword-relation networks is relatively small and groups of high-similarity keyword pairs are clustered in them by comparison with the random networks. This implies that the research field corresponding to the largest connected component is not so huge and many small-scale topics included in it are highly clustered and loosely-connected to each other. our proposed knowledge map can be considered as a approach for the research trend analysis while it is impossible to obtain those results by conventional approaches such as analyzing the frequency of an individual keyword.
This study was conducted to understand the settlement process of Ascotis selenaria larvae into citrus orchards with respect to oviposition site and analysis of the spatial distribution pattern of the larvae. A. selenaria eggs were not found on citrus trees in field and green house, but not on citrus trees in the field. A. selenaria larvae showed a significant clump distribution in the greenhouse. In the open citrus field, the index of dispersion was around 1.0 in most cases, with a weak clumping degree. However, the d-statistic was between -1.96 and 1.96, indicating a statistically significant random distribution. In addition, the Green's index (a clumping index) was very low in all cases, even though the clump distribution was accepted. for most samples, the probability distribution of larval frequency in the field satisfied the probability distribution functions of Poisson (random pattern) and the negative binomial (clump pattern) distribution. In addition, the temporal distribution of the larvae in the open field showed a pattern which was formed by colonizers from outside oviposition sites. Further, the difference in larval spatial distribution between field and greenhouse orchards was discussed.

In this paper, the dispersion characteristics of elastic waves propagation in sandwich nano-beams with functionally graded (FG) face-sheets reinforced with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) is investigated based on various high order shear deformation beam theories (HOSDBTs) as well as nonlocal strain gradient theory (NSGT). In order to align CNTs as symmetric and asymmetric in top and bottom face-sheets with respect to neutral geometric axis of the sandwich nano-beam, various patterns are employed in this analysis. The sandwich nano-beam resting on Pasternak foundation is subjected to thermal, magnetic and electrical fields. In order to involve small scale parameter in governing equations, the NSGT is employed for this analysis. The governing equations of motion are derived using Hamilton's principle based on various HSDBTs. Then the governing equations are solved using analytical method. A detailed parametric study is conducted to study the effects of length scale parameter, different HSDBTs, the nonlocal parameter, various aligning of CNTs in thickness direction of face-sheets, different volume fraction of CNTs, foundation stiffness, applied voltage, magnetic intensity field and temperature change on the wave propagation characteristics of sandwich nano-beam. Also cut-off frequency and phase velocity are investigated in detail. According to results obtained, UU and VA patterns have the same cut-off frequency value but AV pattern has the lower value with respect to them.

In this paper, a new nonlocal hyperbolic refined plate model is presented for free vibration properties of functionally graded (FG) plates. This nonlocal nano-plate model incorporates the length scale parameter which can capture the small scale effect. The displacement field of the present theory is chosen based on a hyperbolic variation in the in-plane displacements through the thickness of the nano-plate. By dividing the transverse displacement into the bending and shear parts, the number of unknowns and equations of motion of the present theory is reduced, significantly facilitating structural analysis. The material properties are assumed to vary only in the thickness direction and the effective properties for the FG nano-plate are computed using Mori-Tanaka homogenization scheme. The governing equations of motion are derived based on the nonlocal differential constitutive relations of Eringen in conjunction with the refined four variable plate theory via Hamilton's principle. Analytical solution for the simply supported FG nano-plates is obtained to verify the theory by comparing its results with other available solutions in the open literature. The effects of nonlocal parameter, the plate thickness, the plate aspect ratio, and various material compositions on the dynamic response of the FG nano-plate are discussed.
