Effect of milling on the electrical properties of Ba(Fe1/2Ta1/2)O3 ceramic

  • In this work effect of high energy milling on the structural and electrical properties of $Ba(Fe_{1/2}Ta_{1/2})O_3$ (BFT) ceramic synthesized using standard solid-state reaction method were investigated. X-ray diffraction studies indicated that the unit cell structure for all the samples to be hexagonal (space group: P3m1). FTIR spectra also confirmed the formation of BFT without any new phase. The milled (10 h) BFT ceramic showed the formation of small grain sizes (<$2{\mu}m$) which is beneficial for dielectric applications in high density integrated devices. Besides, the milled (10 h) BFT ceramic sample exhibited superior dielectric properties (enhancement in ${\varepsilon}^{\prime}-value$ and reduction in $tg{\delta}-value$) compared to un-milled one. Impedance analysis indicated the negative temperature coefficient of resistance (NTCR) character. The correlated barrier hopping model (jump relaxation type) is found to successfully explain the mechanism of charge transport in present ceramic samples.

개에서 세가지 단단장문합 봉합법에 따른 유착비교 (A Comparison of Three Suture Techniques on Adhesion in End-to-end Intestinal Anastomosis of Dogs)

  • 이 연구에서는 개의 소장에 세가지 장문합법이 유착에 어떠한 영향을 미치는 지 알아보았다. 스물 여섯 마리의 개를 무작위로 세 군으로 나누었다. Group I은 단순 연속봉합을 실시하였고, Group II은 단순 결절 접합봉합을 실시하였으며, Group III는 단층 연속 코넬 봉합을 실시하였다. 모든 실험견에 단단장문합술 후 대망막이식을 실시하고, 복막을 닫기 바로 전에 1% Sodium carboxymethylcellulose을 체중 kg 당 5ml되는 용량으로 복강안에 주입하였다. 수술후 14일째 되는날 실험견들의 수술후의 유착소견을 관찰하였다. 모든 개에서 장문합 부위와 대망막 이식 부위 사이의 유착이 발견되었으며, 장막끼리의 유착이 Group I에서 두 마리, Group II에서 세미리, Group III에서 세 마리가 관찰되었다. 모든 군의 평균 유착 점수는 2이하였다. 장문합부와 대망막사이의 유착길이는 Group I에서 13.13$\pm$4.97mm(mean$\pm$S.D.), Group II에서 17.29$\pm$4.68mm, Group III에서 14.64$\pm$3.80mm가 관찰되었다. 단순 연속 봉합법이 유착을 가장 적게 일으켰고, 단순 결절 접합 봉합법이 가장 유착을 많이 일으켰다. 그러나 유착정도에 있어서 세가지 봉합법의 유의성 있는 큰 차이는 나타나지 않았다. 수술후 합병증인 장중적이 한 마리에서만 나타났고, 수술후 생존하였다. 14일간 매일 체온, 활력, 식욕, 배변 및 배뇨를 관찰하였다. 모두 정상범위에 속했으며, 군간의 뚜렷한 차이는 없었다. 결론적으로 개에서 세가지 단단장문합 봉합법이 유착정도에 미치는 영향에서 군간 유의성 있는 차이가 관찰되지 않았지만, 단순 연속 봉합법이 유착을 가장 적게 일으키므로 단단장문합법시에 다른 두기지 봉합법보다 더 권장될 수 있을것이라 사료된다.

Environmental Dependence of Galactic conformity in the Virgo Cluster

  • It is known that the galaxy evolution by direct interaction between galaxies is most active in a galaxy group. As a result, the satellite galaxies are closely related to their central galaxy in properties such as morphology, color and star formation rate (so-called 'galactic conformity'). However, it is not clear yet whether such conformity between galaxies is found in a galaxy cluster. Recently, Lee et al. (2014) have found a measurable correlation between the colors of bright galaxies and the mean colors of their faint companions in a cluster WHL J085910.0+294957 at z = 0.3, using the photometrically-selected cluster members. They suggest that such correlation may be the vestige of infallen groups in the cluster as one possibility. In order to confirm the small-scale conformity in galaxy clusters with higher reliability, we study the Virgo cluster using the Extended Virgo Cluster Catalog (EVCC). The cluster members are selected spectroscopically unlike in WHL J085910.0+294957. We examine the galactic conformity in two distinct areas of the Virgo cluster: the inner X-ray emission region and its outer region. We find a marginal conformity in color (> $2{\sigma}$ significance to bootstrap uncertainty) in the outer region, while no meaningful signal of small-scale conformity is detected in the X-ray emission region. We discuss the implication of this result, focusing on cluster mass assembly and cluster environmental effects on galaxy evolution.

Binder-free Sn/Graphene Nanocomposites Prepared by Electrophoretic Deposition for Anode Materials in Lithium Ion Batteries

  • Nanocomposites consisting of Sn nanoparticles and graphene oxide (GO) were electrophoretically deposited onto Cu current collectors that was used for anodes in Li ion batteries (LIBs). In order to optimize the electrochemical performance of nanocomposites as an anode material by controlling the oxygen functionality, the GO was subjected to $O_3$ treatment prior to electrophoretic deposition (EPD). During thermal reduction of the GO in the nanocomposites, the Sn nanoparticles were reduced in size, along with the formation of SnO and/or $SnO_2$ at a small fraction, relying on the oxygen functionalities of the GO. The variation in the duration of time for the $O_3$ irradiation resulted in a small change in total oxygen content, but in a significantly different fraction of each functional group in the GO, which influenced the Sn nanoparticle size and the amount of SnO (and/or $SnO_2$). As a result, the EPD films prepared with the GO that possessed the least amount of carboxylic groups (made by treating GO in an $O_3$ environment for 3 h) showed the best performance, when compared with the nanocomposites composed of untreated GO or GO that was $O_3$-treated for a duration of less than 3 h.

Inhibition of ENNG-Induced Pyloric Stomach and Small Intestinal Carcinogenesis in Mice by High Temperature- and Pressure-Treated Garlic

  • High temperature- and pressure-treated garlic (HTPG) has been shown to have enhanced antioxidative activity and polyphenol contents. Previously, we reported that HTPG inhibited 1,2-dimethylhydrazine-induced mucin depleted foci (premalignant lesions) and $O^6$-methylguanine DNA adduct formation in the rat colorectum. In the present study, we investigated the modifying effects of HTPG on N-ethyl-N'-nitro-N-nitrosoguanidine (ENNG)-induced pyloric stomach and small intestinal carcinogenesis in mice. Male C57BL/6 mice were given ENNG (100 mg/l) in drinking water for the first 4 weeks, then a basal diet or diet containing 2% or 5% HTPG for 30 weeks. The incidence and multiplicity of pyloric stomach and small intestinal (duodenal and jejunal) tumors in the 2% HTPG group (but not in the 5% HTPG group) were significantly lower than those in the control group. Cell proliferation of normal-appearing duodenal mucosa was assessed by MIB-5 immunohistochemistry and shown to be significantly lower with 2% HTPG (but again not 5% HTPG) than in controls. These results in dicate that HTPG, at 2% in the diet, inhibited ENNG-induced pyloric stomach and small intestinal (especially duodenal) tumorigenesis in mice, associated with suppression of cell proliferation.

Periodontal regeneration with nano-hyroxyapatite-coated silk scaffolds in dogs

  • Purpose: In this study, we investigated the effect of silk scaffolds on one-wall periodontal intrabony defects. We conjugated nano-hydroxyapatite (nHA) onto a silk scaffold and then seeded periodontal ligament cells (PDLCs) or dental pulp cells (DPCs) onto the scaffold. Methods: Five dogs were used in this study. Bilateral 4 mm${\times}$2 mm (depth${\times}$mesiodistal width), one-wall intrabony periodontal defects were surgically created on the distal side of the mandibular second premolar and the mesial side of the mandibular fourth premolar. In each dog, four of the defects were separately and randomly assigned to the following groups: the PDLCcultured scaffold transplantation group (PDLC group), the DPC-cultured scaffold transplantation group (DPC group), the normal saline-soaked scaffold transplantation group, and the control group. The animals were euthanized following an 8-week healing interval for clinical, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and histologic evaluations. Results: There was no sign of inflammation or other clinical signs of postoperative complications. The examination of cellseeded constructs by SEM provided visual confirmation of the favorable characteristics of nHA-coated silk scaffolds for tissue engineering. The scaffolds exhibited a firm connective porous structure in cross section, and after PDLCs and DPCs were seeded onto the scaffolds and cultured for 3 weeks, the attachment of well-spread cells and the formation of extracellular matrix (ECM) were observed. The histologic analysis revealed that a well-maintained grafted volume was present at all experimental sites for 8 weeks. Small amounts of inflammatory cells were seen within the scaffolds. The PDLC and DPC groups did not have remarkably different histologic appearances. Conclusions: These observations indicate that nHA-coated silk scaffolds can be considered to be potentially useful biomaterials for periodontal regeneration.

법랑기질 유도체가 치주질환에 이환된 자가이식 치아의 치유에 미치는 영향 (The Effect of Enamel Matrix Derivative on the Healing of Autotransplanted Periodontally Diseased Teeth)

  • The prognosis of transplanted teeth is strongly related with periodontal healing. Several experimental studies showed that the application of enamel matrix derivatives on periodontitis-affected root surfaces resulted in periodontal regeneration. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of enamel matrix derivatives on periodontitis-affected root surfaces prior to transplantation in dogs. Class III Furcation defects were surgically created on the left second, the third and the fourth premolar in the mandibles of nine mongrel dogs and experimental periodontitis was induced by placing small cotton pellets into defects for 3 weeks. Periodontitis-affected roots were treated by scaling and planing and the coronal portions were removed. Each root was extracted and implanted into recipient bed prepared in the contralateral premolar area. The transplanted roots were grouped according to the treatment modalities; Group I- roots treated with saline only, Group II- roots conditioned by neutral EDTA, and Group III- roots conditioned by neutral EDTA and enamel matrix derivatives ($EMDOGAIN^{(R)}$, BIORA Co., Sweden). The animals were sacrificed at 1 week, 3 weeks, and 10 weeks after transplantation and decalcified specimens were prepared for histologic examination. In Group I, healing was most frequently characterized by root resorption and ankylosis. In Group II, with root resorption and ankylosis in a few specimens, connective tissue attachment was partly seen on denuded root surface, but no cementum formation was seen. In Group III, there was regeneration by new cementum and periodontal ligament on denuded root surface, although slight root resorption and ankylosis were found in a few specimens. This result suggests that enamel matrix derivatives treatment on periodontitis-aggected root surface could reduce the frequency of root resorption and ankylosis and contribute to periodontal regeneration, and might be useful for autologous transplantation.

주조 합금 Alloy 718에서 미세조직과 인장특성에 미치는 열처리의 영향 (Effect of Heat-treatment on Microstructure and Tensile Properties in Cast Alloy 718)

  • The effect of various types of heat-treatment on the mechanical properties of cast Alloy 718 has been investigated. Cast Alloy 718 bars were subjected to 'standard heat-treatment'_(SHT), 'HIP (Hot Isostatic Pressing) heat-treatment'_(HHT), and 'HIP-simulated heat-treatment'_(HS). In the absence of long time high temperature heat-treatment, a small amount of Laves phase remained in the 'SHT' specimen, and needle shaped ${\delta}$ precipitated in the vicinity of the Laves phase. Due to the formation of the Laves and ${\delta}$ phases in the 'SHT' specimen, it exhibited lower tensile properties than those of the others_specimens. On the other hand, the Laves phase was completely dissolved into the matrix after 'HHT' and 'HS' treatments. It is known that isostatic pressure reduces the self-diffusion coefficient, because of the lower self-diffusivity under HIP conditions in the interdendritic region, Nb segregation and the high amount of ${\gamma}^{{\prime}{\prime}}$ precipitation that occurs. Due to the higher fraction of coarse ${\gamma}^{{\prime}{\prime}}$ phases, the 'HHT' treated Alloy 718 showed excellent tensile strength.

Rat에서 carboxymethyl chitosan의 복강수술후 유착형성에 미치는 효과 (Effect of carboxymethyl chitosan on postoperative intraperitoneal adhesion formation in the rat)

  • 본 실험은 carboxymethyl chitosan(CMC)이 복강유착에 미치는 효과를 밝히고자 수행하였다. 총 44마리의 rat를 유착유도후 아무런 처치하지 않은 대조군과 각각 1, 2, 3% CMC 용액 3ml로 처치한 3개 실험군 등 총 4군으로 나누었다. 유착은 회장의 장간막 반대측 장막부위를 노출시켜 수술도로 $0.5{\times}1cm$ 크기로 긁어 점상출혈을 유도하고, 우측벽측복막을 $0.5{\times}1cm$ 간격으로 창상을 유도한 후 두 창상을 봉합하였다. 2주후 halothane에 의한 안락사 후 유착정도를 computerized tensiometer로 측정하였다. 유착부 분리에 필요한 장력(Newton)은 대조군이 평균 $2.48{\pm}0.88$이었으며, 1% CMC 처치군은 $1.86{\pm}0.56$, 2% CMC 처치군은 $1.75{\pm}0.71$, 3% CMC 처치군은 평균 $1.55{\pm}0.60$로 3% CMC 처치군에서 유의적인 감소(p<0.01)가 나타났다. 이상의 결과로 미루어 rat에서 복강수술후 CMC의 복강내 투여는 복강장기 유착방지에 효과적이라고 사료된다.

백서 태자 두 개관에서 유래된 조골세포의 증식 및 골결절 형성양상 (THE ASPECT OF PROLIFERATION AND BONE NODULE FORMATION IN OSTEOBLAST-LIKE CELLS DERIVED FROM FETAL RAT CALVARIA IN VITRO)

  • 백서 태자 두개관을 효소처리하여 얻은 조골세포 유사세포군의 증식능 및 골결절의 형성에 미치는 dexamethasone의 영향과 형성된 골결절의 조직학적 형태 관찰을 위하여, 12 well 배양접시의 각 well 당 $4{\times}10^4cell$ 을 접종하였으며, 30일간 표준배양액으로만 배양한 군, 표준배양액에 ascorbic acid와 Na-${\beta}$-glycerophosphate를 첨가한 군, 그리고 각각에 dexa methasone을 첨가한 군등 4군으로 분리 배양하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 골세포의 증식율은 표준용액으로 배양한 군에 비해 dexamethasone 을 단독으로 투여한 군에서 약간 증가하는 경향을 보였으나 통계적인 유의성은 없었다 (p<0.05). 2. 골세포의 증식율은 ascorbic acid 에 의해 영향을 많이 받았으며, 특히 ascorbic acid와 dexamethasone을 동시에 투여했을때 더욱 현저히 세포증식율이 감소됨을 볼 수 있었다(p<0.05). 3. 배양 초기에는 세포들이 주로 섬유아세포 양으로 나타났으나, 밀생상태에 이르면서 점차 다각형 형태로 바뀌었다. 4. 배양 9일후 지방세포와 연골세포들이 관찰되었으며, 이들은 모두 dexamethasone이 첨가된 군에서 발견되었다. 5. 골결절은 ascorbic acid와 Na-${\beta}$-glycerophosphate가 첨가된 군에서만 형성되었으며, dexamethasone 을 병용첨가한 군에서 광화된 골결절이 현저히 증가됨을 관찰할 수 있었다. 6. 골결절 형성이 되지 않은 부위의 세포들은 평면형상을 이루고 있었으나, 골결절 부위를 덮고있는 세포들은 많은 세포돌기를 가진 조골세포양 세포들로 나타났으며, ascorbic acid, Na-${\beta}$-glycerophosphate 그리고 dexamethasone 을 첨가한 군에서는 침상의 돌기를 가진 광화물질들이 다발의 교원섬유들 사이에 현저히 많이 존재하였으며, 골결절 내부에는 매몰된 골세포(osteocyte)양 세포들이 관찰되었다.
