System optimization of the low noise Wave Fan (저소음 Wave Fan 의 System 최적화)

  • For the past decade many effort has been delivered to understand noise generation mechanism for the small size engine cooling fan. As a result of that effort, the low noise fan such as the Wave fan was developed. Now the Wave fan becomes the well known low noise engine cooling fan. But in case of the new car development, the system in the new car will be different from previous one. So we need system optimization for every new model. In case of special application, a low speed fan should be developed to match system requirement. In that case, we meet severe engineering requirement by conducting fan system optimization instead of the simple fan scaling. In this paper, I will show you the system optimize process.

  • In this study the characteristics of E-EGR valve developed by UNICK were analyzed and the feasibility of application to vehicles were evaluated. Smart car(3L/100km, cdi version) and engine which is small-displacement size, 0.8-liter, of diesel passenger car developed from Mercedes-Benz were used for this experiment. It was installed a 3-cylinder turbo-charged light duty diesel engine with an electronic EGR valve. After the analysis and comparison of E-EGR valve performance under test benchs, the estimation of vehicle application was executed through the EGR map and CVS-75 test result measured on the chassis dynamometer.

  • A low-cost current-sensing scheme for the motor drives with MOSFET is described. Many motor drives usually employ the common current sensors to measure current for the purpose of control or protection. These current sensors, however, significantly burden the power circuit with the size and cost. The proposed current-sensing scheme utilizes information concerning MOSFET's On-voltage and On-resistance. An analogue circuit detecting On-voltage can overcome the above disadvantages because the circuit is small and is made at a low cost, and the fuzzy inference for On-resistance is also simply designed based on MOSFET's characteristics. The validity of this scheme will be experimentally verified by adopting the current control of a battery car.

  • Automobile airbag deployment process has been studied with MADYMO software. Based on the FMVSS208 and USNCAP(United States New Car Assessment Program) regulations, four parameters were chosen for the design improvement with reference to the 5th percentile female passenger dummy: time to fire, vent hole size, tether length and tank test pressure of inflator. Sensitivity analyses based on orthogonal arrays show that enhanced protection of small females can be achieved with improved USNCAP rating within the boundary of FMVSS 208.

An Experimental Study on the Aerodynamic Drag of Model Cars with Cooling Air Passage (냉각유동이 자동차항력에 미치는 영향에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • This paper presents the experimental results of aerodynamic drags of model cars. The effects of cooling air on total drag were introduced by using momentum theorem. Vehicle-liked Ahmed body and 1/5 model car were used to evaluate the increments of drags due to the internal flow. The results were compared with momentum theorem and other's experiments and showed good agreements. In the case of Ahmed body, drags were increased by 22% due to the internal flow and decreased linealy by reducing internal air flow rates and inlet areas. The experiments on 1/5 model car with ill-defined air flow passage showed 10% increment of drag. The results of present study showed that cooling drag could be predicted by momentum theorem within small errors.

Effect of Driver's Posture with Different Car Pedal Systems and Skilled Levels (운전 숙련도에 따른 자동차 페달시스템 유형이 운전자세에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare drivers' postures with different car pedal systems and skilled levels. Fourteen subjects participated in this experiment and for three-dimensional analyses, six cameras (Proreflex MCU-240, Qualisys) were used to acquire raw data. The parameters were calculated and analyzed with Visual-3D. In conclusion, the patterns of pelvic, hip, knee and ankle joint angles were different as to pedal systems and skilled levels, and distal joints ROA pelvis have large angles. ROA(range of angle) of a double pedal system was small, but ROA of a single pedal system was large. These findings suggested that we should improve a present single pedal system.

The Corporate Spinoffs and Long-run Stock Returns (기업분할의 장기성과에 대한 실증연구)

  • We examine whether spinoffs improve long-run stock returns and analyze the factors of long run stock returns. The measures of long run stock returns are CAR(Cumulative Abnormal Returns) and BHAR(Buy and Hold Abnormal Returns). The expected factors of abnormal returns are methods of spinoffs, size, BV/MV, administrative costs, cashflow and Herfindahl index. We find that long-run returns of the case such as carve-out methods, small size, high BV/MV, low administrative costs, low cashflow and low Herfindahl index are larger than those of other cases. We show positive relationship between spinoffs and long-run stock returns(CAR and BHAR). The results supports spinoffs, as the methods of focusing on core business, are very usefulness of corporate restructuring.

  • The vertical slope of railway track is the differences of attitude for the horizontal distances between two positions of railway. It is better to be small vertical slope for the comfortable of passengers and the operation of railway system. However, the variable vertical slope is required that the simple vertical slope causes the huge quantities of embankment and cutting, the continuous welded rail tunnels, the continuous welded rail bridges, etc,. This research is for the relation between the vertical slopes and the trainset performances. This research shows that the effective vertical slopes for the operation of railway. The velocity of car and operation time and the consumed energy was considered for each vertical slope and type of car power system. The result of suitable vertical slope from this research is to be used for the design of railway plan.

Development of electrode tips for spot welding to reduce indentation of car body surface of stainless rolling stocks (스텐레스 철도차량 외판 압흔 깊이 감소를 위한 스폿용접용 전극팁 개발)

  • Stainless rolling stocks are usually fabricated by spot welding process without painting. Indentation on the surface of the car body after spot welding injures the beauty of the stainless rolling stocks. In this study, electrode tips to reduce the indentation are developed and applied to the actual spot welding works. The developed tips are composed of head, nut hole far cooling water, body and resistance material. They provide large surface contact area with the base materials during spot welding and enhance the current density by necking. Experimental results using the developed tips show that small indentation and sufficient tensile shear strength is produced due to large contact area and enhanced current density.
