Design of Optimal Locating Points of the Hydraulic Cylinder Actuating a Sluice Gate Using the Complex Method (컴플렉스법에 의한 수문 유압실린더의 최적 설치점 설계)

  • The hydraulic cylinder is used for actuating the sluice gate which controls the volume of water in the reservoir. The locating points of hydraulic cylinder are restricted to limited space and determined to minimize the cylinder force necessary for actuating the sluice gate. Generally, the head end point of cylinder is fixed at underground and the rod end point of cylinder is connected to the gate plate when it is fully opened. Therefore there exist three parameters to be determined to minimize the cylinder force in the operation range of sluice gate. The optimal locating points of hydraulic cylinder are obtained using the complex method that is one kind of constrained direct search m method.

  • In general a main technology of control a sluice gate is accurate synchronous position control for the two cylinders when they are moving with the sluice gate together over 10[m]. Because the nonlinear friction and the unconstant supply flow. Cylinders' displacement will be different. In this case the sluice gate may be deformed and abraded, and even the sluice gate may unable to work. In order to design the controller for this system, we designed two kinds of Fuzzy PI controllers. Fuzzy PI position controller and Fuzzy PI synchronous controller have been designed. We show some simulation results for its availability.

Numerical Modeling on the Change in Discharge Performance of the Sluice for Tidal Power Plant According to the Apron Shape (물받이 형상에 따른 조력발전용 수문의 통수성능 변화 수치모델링)

  • In this study, numerical modeling was performed to investigate influence of the apron shape on the discharge performance of the sluice for tidal power plant. The numerical modeling was carried out for comparison of the difference in the discharge coefficient when the apron width, slope, and the length of the horizontal section were different, without considering change in the shape of the sluice caisson itself. The modeling result showed that significant discrepancy in terms of the overall discharge performance appeared according to the apron geometry. In order to achieve maximum discharge performance of the sluice caisson, it is desirable to make the design by putting a space equivalent to the width of the sluice caisson on its both sides, by making the apron slope be 1:5, and by keeping length of the horizontal section to be 50 m that is corresponding to the streamwise length of the sluice caisson.

A Study on the Hydroulic Phenomenon at the Douvstream Channel of the Drainage Sluice (배수갑문 물받이의 수리현상에 관한 연구)

  • To insure the safety of the drainage sluice, topogrophical change due to erosion as well as capability of discharging the design flow in a very important factor. In consideration of the fact that the drainage sluice is built in the sea, its construction has many topographically restricted problems and naturally requires a completeness of research and experiment. This thesis is a comparative and analytic study of discharging flow acting on the erosion at the bottom of the structure on the basis of the measured velocity on the downstream channel of the drainage sluice. (1) The measured velocity shows a little higher values than the computed velocity, because the measured velocity was observed at the surface of the stream. There fore, it is reasonable that the compated velocity should be taken in this study. (2) The field observation was conducted to have the measurement of the flow velocity without surveying the area of flow. Therefore, the coefficient of discharge could not be computed. The survey of the area of flow is planned to be conducted along with the measurement of the flow velocity. (3) The apron of the drainage sluice is free discharging type and it was designed to be about 80m in length less than it should be. (4) The apron of free flow discharging type should have a solid foundation to protect the structure by preventing erosion damage to upstream and downstream channels against weathering of rock and strong torrent. Whether free flow discharging type or energy-dissipating type is best chosen depends on the topographical condition of the forage site, therefore, there would be a comparative study before the final decision was made about the protrection for the structure. (5) It is considered to be appropriate that the design and construction of the drainage sluice should have a complete study which is based on hydraulie model test before the type of protection is decided. (6) It is much requested that a variety of experiment equipments be installed and observed to study the protection for the drainage sluice.

  • Achieved monitoring regularly about fishway that is a intake dam belongings to Kyeongchon for 5 years. Result that achieve monitoring, discovered pressing issue of opening and closing degree of discharge control part in fishway. In this research, analyze discharge relation with fishway and intake sluice and presented operation plan of opening and closing of discharge control part. Investigated necessity intake discharge and benefited area to analyze relation of discharge that is flowed in fishway and discharge escaping by intake sluice. When opened discharge control part step by step gradually, analyzed discharge. Compared with survey discharge making ration curve of fishway and intake sluice using orifice and submerged weir formula. Because operation of intake dam is necessary intake discharge and upriver inflow discharge by time, operation uses by survey discharge and calculated opening discharge of fishway by opening discharge of intake sluice via monthly inflow discharge. To sum up, calculated floodgate opening height of fishway by water level to present maintenance standard of intake dam.

  • This study proposes the system of new small sluice gate operated without the upper concrete structure. The new mechanism is composed of hydraulic system, driving mechanism to feed the floodgate up and down, hydrological locking device, safety device and etc. The hydraulic pumps and control systems away from the location of the sluice gate systems are installed and controled in place. The feed device with the hydraulic rack, pinion and hydraulic actuator is installed on the side of the sluice gate. The following results take the advantages of cost reduction, operation safety and compact product.

  • Nowadays, it is convenient to use 3D modeling tools for general planning before construction. Normally, a 3D model is built with 3D CAD such as 3D Studio Max, Maya, etc. or simply with AutoCAD. All these software packages are effective in building 3D models but difficult to use, because many provided functions and tools require prior knowledge to build both 2D and 3D designs. Moreover, the traditional method of building 3D models is most time-consuming as experienced operators and manual input are required. Therefore, how to minimize the building time of 3D models and provide easy-to-use functions for users who are not familiar with 3D modeling becomes important. In this paper, the VisualLISP programming language is used to create a convenient tool for efficient generation of 3D components for the AutoCAD environment. This tool will be demonstrated with the generation of a 3D sluice, an artificial passage for water fitted with a valve or gate to stop or regulate water flow. With the tool, users only need to enter the parameters of a sluice in the edit box and the 3D model will be automatically generated in a few seconds. By changing parameters in the edit box and pressing the "OK" button, a new 3D sluice model will be generated in a short while.

  • The turnover-type sluice gate is typically actuated by the hydrauic system. The hydraulic system may be a open circuit type or a closed circuit type. The open circuit type hydraulic system is composed of a uni-directional pump, a directional control valve, pilot operated check valves, flow control valves, single-rod cylinders. The closed circuit type hydraulic system is composed of a bi-directional pump, pilot operated check valves, check valves, a counter balance valve, single-rod cylinders. The energy efficiencies of two hydraulic systems for the turnover-type sluice gate are compared here.

Contact Fatigue Life of Rack-Pinion for Small-Sized Sluice Gate (소형 수문용 랙-피니언의 접촉 피로수명)

  • Gate-lifting devices in small- to mid-sized sluice gates mostly employ the mechanical roller rack pinion (RRP) system. This RRP system, which consists of a rack-bar and a pinion, transforms a rotation motion into a linear one. The rack-bar has a series of roller trains that mesh with the pinion. In this study, we adopt an exact involute-trochoid tooth profile of the pinion to obtain a higher contact fatigue strength using the profile modification coefficient. Further, we determine the contact forces and investigate Hertz contact stresses to predict the pitting life of the pinion according to varying the shape design parameters. The results indicate that the design fatigue life of an RRP system for sluice gate can be achieved only when the design value of the profile modification coefficient reaches or exceeds a certain level.
