Solenoid valve cleaner is used for clean the solenoid valve in automatic transmission for a car when it is clogged with transmission oil sludge. Nevertheless when the solenoid is turned off, the residual current in the solenoid coil makes slow motion of the plunger in the solenoid which makes lower in cleansing performance and speed. In this paper, the method of performance Improvement for solenoid valve cleaner is proposed. The residual current in the solenoid coil is eliminated rapidly by the proposed method and it improves the cleansing performance and speed. The experimental results show the validity of the reposed method.
Degradation of the starch-polyethylene composite film by an activated sludge treatment and a soil burial test was examined. The treated films had deformed structures which were resulted from the removal of starch during the treatments. The added auto-oxidant caused the degradation of the polyethylene matrices and the crosslinking reactions after the oxidation of polyethylene chains as well. As a result of soil burial test, the degradation reaction of the composite film containing corn oil as an auto-oxidant was, however, prevalent : number- and weight-average molecular weight of polyethylene decreased, while the molecular weight distribution increased.
Produced water is the largest wastestream of oil and gas exploration. It consists of various organic and inorganic compounds that hinder its beneficial use. This study compared the treatment of produced water in a batch suspended and biofilm activated sludge process. The biofilm carrier material was made from Gardenia Carinata shell. COD, $NH_4{^+}-N$ and $NO_3-N$ removal was monitored in both the suspended (control) and floating carrier bioreactors. The results show a rapid reduction of produced water constituents in the floating carrier bioreactor. COD, $NH_4{^+}-N$ and $NO_3-N$ removal was in the range of 99%, 98% and 97% for the floating carrier bioreactor whereas it was 88%, 84% and 83% for the control bioreactor. The rapid reduction of COD, $NH_4{^+}-N$ and $NO_3-N$ clearly indicate that the floating carrier materials served as an attached growth medium for microorganisms, improved the breakdown of produced water constituents and reduced inhibition of microbial metabolic activities.

A construction process of hydrogen peroxide supply system was investigated to use hydrogen peroxide as an oxidizer of bi-propellant liquid rocket engine. To use hydrogen peroxide as a rocket propellant, it has to be in high concentration over 90%. It is very important to make the supply system free of pollutants, because highly concentrated hydrogen peroxide has a characteristic of hypersensitive reaction to pollutants such as dust and oil sludge. We suggested the cleaning and passivation process of main components to minimize pollutants of the supply system. In conclusion, we verified stability of the constructed supply system by leak test and hot test.
This study was performed to develop an analytical method in specified wastes for preventing the environmental pollution from hazardous wastes. Few analytical methods were developed using the waste standard reference materials of sludge, waste oil, bottom ash, etc. which contain As, CN, Cd, Cr, Cu, Pb, and Hg compounds. The pre-treatment method was considered by whether or not the synchronous analysis is possible. Waste samples obtained from the 34 representative facilities, which are emitting the hazardous substances, were analyzed.
Anaerobic digestion(AD) is the most promising method for treating and recycling of different organic wastes, such as organic fraction of municipal solid waste, household wastes, animal manure, agro-industrial wastes, industrial organic wastes and sewage sludge. During AD, i.e. organic materials are decomposed by anaerobic forming bacteria and fina1ly converted to excellent fertilizer and biogas which is a mixture of carbon dioxide and methane. AD has been one of the leading technologies that can make a large contribution to produce renewable energy and to reduce $CO_2$ and other green-house gas(GHG) emission, it is becoming a key method for both waste treatment and recovery of a renewable fuel and other valuable co-products. Currently some 80% of the world's overall energy supply of about 400 EJ per year in derived from fossil fuels. Nevertheless roughly 10~15% of this demand is covered by biomass resources, making biomass by far the most important renewable energy source used to date. The representative biofuels produced from the biomass are bioethanol, biodiesel and biogas, and currently biogas plays a smaller than other biofuels but steadily growing role. Traditionally anaerobic digestion applied for different biowaste e.g. sewage sludge, manure, other organic wastes treatment and stabilization, biogas has become a well established energy resource. However, the biowaste are fairly limited in respect to the production and utilization as renewable source, but the plant biomass, the so called "energy crops" are used for more biogas production in EU countries and the investigation on the biomethane potential of different crops and plant materials have been carried out. In Korea, with steadily increasing oil prices and improved environmental regulations, since 2005 anaerobic digestion was again stimulated, especially on the biogasification of different biowastes and agro-industrial biomass including "energy crops". This study have been carried out to investigate anaerobic biodegradability by the biochemical methane potential(BMP) test of animal manures, different forage crops i.e. "energy crops", plant and industrial organic wastes in the condition of thermophilic temperature, The biodegradability of animal manure were 63.2% and 58.2% with $315m^3CH_4/tonVS$ of cattle slurry and $370m^3CH_4/tonVS$ of pig slurry in ultimate methane yields. Those of winter forage crops were the range 75% to 87% with ultimate methane yield of $378m^3CH_4/tonVS$ to $450m^3CH_4/tonVS$ and those of summer forage crops were the range 81% to 85% with ultimate methane yield of $392m^3CH_4/tonVS$ to $415m^3CH_4/tonVS$. The forge crops as "energy crops" could be used as good renewable energy source to increase methane production and to improve biodegradability in co-digestion with animal manure or only energy crop digestion.
Impurities removal from waste carbon black was carried out to produce high-grade carbon black. A large amount of hydrophilic carbon black is produced as a byproduct of the hydrogen production process by flame decomposition of water. Due to its impurities content such as sulphur, iron, ash, etc., it can only be used as low-grade carbon or burnt out. High-grade hydrophilic carbon black is 3~5 times more expensive than oil-based carbon black because of high production cost associated with process complexly and pollutant treatment. Hydrophilic carbon is normally used for conductive materials for batteries, pigment for plastics, electric wire covering, additives for rubber, etc. In these applications, impurity content must be blow 1 fe. In this study, magnetic separation, froth flotation and ultrasonic treatment were employed to remove impurities from the low-grade hydrophilic carbon black. Results showed that the ash, iron and sulphur content of product decreased to less than 0.01 wt.%, 0.01 wt.% and 0.3 wt % respectively and the surface area of product was about 930 $m^2$/g for conductive materials.
Aromatic hydrocarbons, such as phenol, have been detected frequently in wastewater, soil, and groundwater because of the extensive use of oil products. Bacterial strains (56 isolates) that degraded phenol were isolated from soil and industrial wastewater contaminated with hydrocarbons. GN13, which showed the best cell growth and phenol degradation, was selected for further analysis. The GN13 isolate was identified as Neisseria sp. based on the results of morphological, physiological, and biochemical taxonomic analyses and designated as Neisseria sp. GN13. The optimum temperature and pH for phenol removal of Neisseria sp. GN13 was $32^{\circ}C$ and 7.0, respectively. The highest cell growth occurred after cultivation for 30 hours in a jar fermentor using optimized medium containing 1,000 mg/l of phenol as the sole carbon source. Phenol was not detected after 27 hours of cultivation. Based on the analysis of catechol dioxygenase, it seemed that catechol was degraded through the meta- and ortho-cleavage pathway. Analysis of the biodegradation of phenol by Neisseria sp. GN13 in artificial wastewater containing phenol showed that the removal rate of phenol was 97% during incubation of 30 hours. The removal rate of total organic carbon (TOC) by Neisseria sp. GN13 and activated sludge was 83% and 78%, respectively. The COD removal rate by Neisseria sp. GN13 from petrochemical wastewater was about 1.3 times higher than that of a control containing only activated sludge.

This study was carried out to evaluate the effects of initial concentration on composting of diesel-contaminated soil. Silt loam was used in this study. Target contaminant, diesel oil, was spiked at about 2,000, 4,000, and 10,000mg/kg of dry soil, respectively. Mix ratio of soil to sludge was 1:0.3 as wet weight basis. Temperature was maintained at $20^{\circ}C$ Volatilization loss of TPH was 0.7-3.5% of the initial concentrations. Volatilization loss of TPH was not increased in proportion to the initial concentration. After 30 days of operation, 86% and 94% of the initial concentrations at about 2,000 and 10,000mg TPH/kg were biodegraded. Normal alkanes were degraded more rapidly than TPH. The compounds of C12 to C14 were volatilized greatly among n-alkanes. The first order degradation rate constants of about 2,000, 4,000, and 10,000mg TPH/kg were 0.079, 0.069, and 0.061/day, respectively. Produced-$CO_2$ and degraded-TPH were correlated highly regardless of the initial TPH concentration(r = 0.97-0.99).

This study was carried out to investigate the effects of aging and soil texture on composting of diesel-contaminated soil. The soils used for this study were silt loam and sand. Target contaminant, diesel oil, was spiked at 10,000mgTPH/kg of dry soil. Aging times of diesel-contaminated soils were 15days and 60days, respectively. Fresh diesel-contaminated soil was also investigated. Moisture content was controlled to 70% of soil field capacity. Mix ratio of soil to sludge was 1:0.3 as wet weight basis. Temperature was maintained at $20^{\circ}C$ Volatilization loss of TPH was below 2% of initial concentration. n-Alkanes lost by volatilization were mainly by the compounds of C10 to C17. Diesel in contaminated soil was mainly removed by biodegradation mechanism. First order degradation rate constant of TPH in sandy soil was ranged from 0.081 to 0.094/day, which is higher than that in silt loam(0.056-0.061/day). From fresh to 60day-aged soils, there was little difference of TPH biodegradation rate between the soils. Carbon recovery ranged from 0.61 to 0.89. TPH degradation rate was highly correlated with $CO_2$ production rate.
