In the present study, oblique L-shaped monopole slot antenna with broadband characteristic is newly proposed. For bandwidth enhancement as well as size reduction, L-shaped slot with two open-terminations on the ground edge is used. The lower part of L-shaped slot comprises oblique form for bandwidth enhancement in low frequency band, whereas its higher part comprise tapered form for its enhancement in high frequency band. The short-circuit terminated microstrip line which is generally known to be more useful for bandwidth enhancement than open-circuit termination is used. The measured impedance bandwidth($S_{11}{\leq}-10dB$) and gain of the fabricated antenna have been observed to be 4.72 GHz (2.28~7 GHz) and more than 3dBi over the passband respectively.

In this paper we design and fabricate the Skeleton slot antenna which operates dually in GSM 900 and 1800 bands. Its simulation results are also compared with the measured ones. The original Skeleton slot antennas had the problems of unsatisfactory VSWR characteristics and considerably changing horizontal radiation patterns at high frequencies, but the proposed design improves these problems using multi-path feeding network and folding structure. The size of the radiator is 154 $\times$ 106(mm), and its height is 33(mm), and the reflector of 190$\times$190(mm) is used. The material of the radiator and reflector is 1mm-thick aluminum. Using NTC process reduces the mass production cost significantly. The measured return losses are 13.7 % at 900 MHz band and 16.4 % at 1800 MHz band, respectively. The horizontal radiation beam width is stable within $\pm$ 1$^{\circ}$ at both frequency bands.

In the information age, internet was developed from the wired access to the wireless Internet access. When a surge in demand for wireless Internet access, efficiency and performance of 2.4 and 5GHz band which leads to saturation of the communication was significantly fall. In this paper, we studied the design and fabrication of slot patch antenna to be used in wireless communication systems operating at around 10GHz band. To obtain optimal antenna parameters such as patch size, inter patch space, sL, sW, feed L, feed w, slot patch antenna was simulated by HFSS(High Frequency Structure Simulator). From these parameters, slot and patch antenna is fabricated using FR-4 substrate of dielectric constant 4.4. The characteristics of fabricated antenna were analyzed by network analyzer. The fabricated slot patch antenna showed a center frequency as 10.23GHz, the minimum return loss as -32dB, and -10dB bandwidth as 420MHz respectively.
Purpose: For aesthetic reasons, composite resin brackets are widely used. However, related studies are rare. This pilot study sought to compare the stress distributions in two commercially available composite resin brackets with metal slot. Materials and Methods: Two commercially available resin brackets -- full-metal slot resin bracket (fSRB) and partial-metal slot resin bracket (pSRB) with straight wire appliance dimension of $0.022{\times}0.028$ in -- were selected. In each bracket, 3-dimensional finite element models were constructed, and stress level was evaluated using finite element analysis. By loading the tipping force and torsion moment, which are similar to those applied by the stainless steel rectangular wire ($0.019{\times}0.025$ -in), stress distributions were calculated, and von Mises stress values were obtained. Results: In pSRB and fSRB, the stress value of the torque moment was much higher than that of the tipping force. The pSRB showed higher stress value than fSRB in both tipping force and torque moment because of the difference in size and configuration of the metal frame inserted into the slot. More stress was also found to be concentrated on the slot area than the wing area in fSRB. Conclusion: The slot form of fSRB was found to be more resistant to the stress of tipping and torque than the slot form of pSRB. In addition, the slot areas -- rather than the wing areas -- of the bracket showed breakage susceptibility. Therefore, resistance to the torque moment on the slot area should be considered in bracket design.

Slot coating process, in continuous and patch modes, has been applied for the many precise coating products, e.g., flat panel displays and second batteries. However, manufacturing uniform coating products is not a trivial task at high-speed operations because various flow instabilities or defects such as leaking, bubbles, ribbing, and rivulets are frequently observed in this process. It is no wonder, therefore, that many efforts to understand the various aspects of dynamics and coating windows of this process have been made both in academia and industry. In this study, as the first topic, flow dynamics within the coating bead in slot coating process has been investigated using the one-dimensional viscocapillary model by lubrication approximation and two-dimensional model by Flow-3D software. Especially, operability windows in both 1D and 2D cases with various slot die lip designs have been successfully portrayed. Also, effects of process conditions like viscosity and coating gap size on slot coating window have been analyzed. Also, some experiments to find minimum coating thickness and coating windows have been conducted using slot die coater implemented with flow visualization device, corroborating the numerical results. As the second topic, flow dynamics of both Newtonian and Non-Newtonian fluids in patch or pattern slot coating process, which is employed in manufacturing IT products such as secondary batteries, has been investigated for the purpose of optimal process designs. As a matter of fact, the flow control in this system is more difficult than in continuous case because od its transient or time-dependent nature. The internal die and die lip designs for patterned uniform coating products have been obtained by controlling flow behaviors of coating liquids issuing from slot. Numerical simulations have been performed using Fluent and Flow-3D packages. Flow behavior and pressure distribution inside the slot die has been compared with various die internal shapes and geometries. In the coating bead region, efforts to reduce irregular coating defects in head and tail parts of one patterned coating unit have been tried by changing die lip shapes. It has been concluded that optimal die internal design gas been developed, guaranteeing uniform velocity distribution of both Newtonian and shear thinning fluids at the die exit. And also optimal die lip design has been established, providing the longer uniform coating layer thickness within one coating unit.

Tag collection is one of the major functions in Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems. IS0/IEC 18000-7 defines the tag collection algorithm using the anti-collision algorithm, based on the framed slotted ALOHA for active RFID systems. However, it has inefficiency problems that reduce tag collection performance by deciding non-optimum slot size or using point-to-point commands to put collected tags to sleep. In this paper, we propose two mechanisms to overcome the inefficiency problems and improve tag collection performance: 1) a new slot size decision mechanism to allow the reader to choose the optimum slot size flexibly and 2) a broadcast-based sleep mechanism to put collected tags to sleep effectively. We also implemented an active RFID system, composed of an active RFID reader and multiple tags, and the reader is designed to maximize tag collection performance when the proposed mechanisms are applied. In experiments, we evaluated the tag collection performance using one reader and 50 tags in the real-world environment. The experimental results show that when two mechanisms are applied and the initial number of slots is chosen appropriately, the performance of the proposed tag collection algorithm is greatly enhanced, compared with that of the standard.

One of the biggest problems that should be solved in present RFID systems is a reduction of identification efficiency by the collision of singals between different tags. As the number of tags, which should be identified, increases over the size of allocated round, more slots experiences the collision between them. It can causes generation of tag collision assigning the fixed round size and so, allocated round size should be regulated properly. This paper proposes the algorithm which can reduce collision between tags, and allocate specific round size dynamically for efficient tag identification. After each round is finished, the reader allocates the round size dynamically using the collision information of the slot. All collision informations of the slot consists of the number of slots which came into conflict, tags which were realized properly without any conflictions and empty slots. We used slotted aloha algorithm as the collision detection algorithm and finally, checked that this could be used very usefully when this algorithm which was proposed effectively could not know how many number of tags were exisisted through the simulation in advance.
Sensor nodes have various energy and computational constraints because of their inexpensive nature and ad-hoc method of deployment. Considerable research has been focused at overcoming these deficiencies through faster media accessing, more energy efficient routing, localization algorithms and system design. Our research attempts to provide a method of improvement MAC performance in these issues. We show that traditional carrier-sense multiple access(CSMA) protocols like IEEE 802.11 do not handle the first constraint adequately, and do not take advantage of the second property, leading to degraded latency and throughput as the network scales in size, We present more efficient method of a medium access for real-time wireless sensor networks. Proposed MAC protocol is a randomized CSMA protocol, but unlike previous legacy protocols, does not use a time-varying contention window from which a node randomly picks a transmission slot. To reduce the latency for the delivery of event reports, it carefully decides a fixed-size contention window, non-uniform probability distribution of transmitting in each slot within the window. We show that it can offer up to several times latency reduction compared to legacy of IEEE 802.11 as the size of the sensor network scales up to 256 nodes using widely used simulator ns-2. We, finally show that proposed MAC scheme comes close to meeting bounds on the best latency achievable by a decentralized CSMA-based MAC protocol for real-time wireless sensor networks which is sensitive to latency.

In this paper, a design method for a compact stepped open slot antenna for an operation in the UWB band is studied. The proposed antenna is miniaturized by inserting L-shaped slots on the ground plane of the stepped open slot antenna through the creation of a resonance in the low frequency, and a strip director is appended to the antenna in order to increase the gain in the middle and high frequency regions. The effects of varying the length of the L-shaped slots, the distance between the director and the slot antenna, and the director length on input reflection coefficient and realized gain characteristics of the proposed antenna are analyzed. The optimized antenna with the size of $30mm{\times}30mm$ is fabricated on an FR4 substrate, and the experiment results show that the antenna has a frequency band of 3.02-11.04 GHz for a VSWR < 2, which assures the operation in the UWB band.

Experimental results on a 4-bit charge-coupled A/D converter are described. Major operations in the successive approximation algorithm are implemented in a monolithic chip, CCADC, which was fabricated usir p-channel CCD technology, with its die size of 4,200 mil2 Typical operating frequency range has been found out to be from 500Hz to 200kHz. In that frequency range, no missing code has been found in the whole signal range of 2.4 volts for ramp signal slewing at 1 LSB/(sampling time). A discussion is made on several layout techniques to conserve the nominal binary ratio of (8:4:2:1) among the areas of four adjacent potential wells (M wells), whose charge storing capacities correspond to each bit magnitude - 3.6 pC, 1.8 pC, 0.9 pC, and 0.45 pC nominal in the order of MSB to the LSB. The effect of 'dump slot', which is responsible for the excessive nonlinearity (2$\frac{1}{2}$LSB) in the A/D converter, is explained. A novel input scheme called 'slot zero insertion' to circumvent the deleterious effects of the dump slot is described with the experimental results.
