In this paper, Ive propose a bow-tie-shaped meander slot antenna find by a microstrip line to achieve compact size as well as wideband characteristic. While conventional bow-tie slot antennas exhibit wide band characteristic, they have relatively large size. On the other hand, the meander slot antennas are very small, but they reveal quite narrow bandwidth (typically less than 1 %). To realize miniaturized antennas balling large bandwidth, combination of the bow-tie slot and the meander slot geometries is proposed in this paper. Theoretical results show that the proposed antenna with uniform slot width is 65.5 % smaller than that of the conventional bow-tie antenna in size, while the bandwidth is 3 times larger than that of the meander slot antenna. Moreover, the non-uniform slot width antenna shows 60 % smaller in size and about 3.5 times wider in bandwidth than the previous antennas. Measured antenna performance reveals excellent agreement with the predicted values.

This study deals with the experimental and numerical investigations to design the high performance otter board. Experiment was carried out to determine the most effective slot size of single-slot cambered otter board in the circulation water channel of BAEK KYUNG IND. Co. LTD. Numerical analysis was done by the commercial CFD code, FLUENT, to provide some valuable physical interpretations and finally to design the otter board section by numerical method. The major results are as follows ; 1. In experiment, the maximum lift and drag coefficients of simple cambered type otterboard were 1.41, 0.55, respectively, at the angle of attack $28^\circ$, while those of slot one with slot size 0.02C (C denotes the chord length) were 1.72, 0.42 at the angle of attack $24^\circ$. 2. The hydrodynamic characteristics depending upon slot size shows the greatest at 0.02C of the slot size. 3. Numerical results well visualized the streamlines, pressure fields, and speed vectors of a simple cambered and slot cambered otter board with slot size 0.02C. The slot cambered one with slot size 0.02C was shown that pressure field was distributed moderately on front and back side of otter board. And, the delay and decrease of separation were favorably achieved by flow through slot. 4. Computed result on the pattern of hydrodynamic field and the values of $C_L$ and $C_D$ by the commercial CFD code, FLUENT, show almost the same as those of the experimental result.

Objective: To investigate how bracket slot size affects the direction of maxillary anterior tooth movement when en-masse retraction is performed in sliding mechanics using an induction-heating typodont simulation system. Methods: An induction-heating typodont simulation system was designed based on the Calorific Machine system. The typodont included metal anterior and resin posterior teeth embedded in a sticky wax arch. Three bracket slot groups (0.018, 0.020, and 0.022 inch [in]) were tested. A retraction force of 250 g was applied in the posterior-superior direction. Results: In the anteroposterior direction, the cusp tip of the canine in the 0.020-in slot group moved more distally than in the 0.018-in slot group. In the vertical direction, all six anterior teeth were intruded in the 0.018-in slot group and extruded in the 0.020- and 0.022-in slot groups. The lateral incisor was significantly extruded in the 0.020- and 0.022-in slot groups. Significant differences in the crown linguoversion were found between the 0.018- and 0.020-in slot groups and 0.018- and 0.022-in slot groups for the central incisor and between the 0.018- and 0.022-in slot groups and 0.020- and 0.022-in slot groups for the canine. In the 0.018-in slot group, all anterior teeth showed crown mesial angulation. Significant differences were found between the 0.018- and 0.022-in slot groups for the lateral incisor and between the 0.018- and 0.020-in slot groups and 0.018- and 0.022-in slot groups for the canine. Conclusions: Use of 0.018-in slot brackets was effective for preventing extrusion and crown linguoversion of anterior teeth in sliding mechanics.
In this paper, we propose the folded PIFA with its made an alteration to a factor of resonance for L-slot PIFA. Proposed antenna maintain diminished size patch and improve each bandwidth of GSM(0.88$\sim$-0.96 GHz) and W-CDMA(1.92$\sim$2,17 GHz) for miniaturized repeater. The non-slot step folded PIFA's structure that design of essence was general L-slot PIFA for dual-band. It has no U-slot, multi band and the another slot. The parameters of proposed antenna were optimized for dual-band and compact size by folded singleness patch. Proposed antenna by using folded singleness patch take satisfaction main point, bandwidth of GSM and W-CDMA, compact patch size($39{\times}21{\times}13mm^3$). The antenna was designed by FDTD simulation tool and it was made from result of simulation. Measured data shown that the proposed non-slot step folded PIFA was strong possibility.

In the Gen-2 Q-algorithm, the values of weight C, which is the parameter for incrementing or decrementing the slot-count size, are not optimized in the standard. However, the standard suggests that the reader uses small values of C when the slot-count is large and larger values of C when the slot-count is small. In this case, if the reader selects an inappropriate weight, there are a lot of empty or collided slots. As a result, the performance will be declined because the frame size does not converge to the optimal point quickly during the query round. In this paper, we propose a scheme to select the weight based on the slot-count size of current query round. Through various computer simulations, it is demonstrated that the proposed scheme achieves more stable performances than Gen-2 Q-algorithm.

This study was conducted to evaluate ventilation efficiency of 4-stage slot hood by variation of slot width, flow rate, hood size and baffle size. The slot velocity, control velocity and plenum velocity were related to slot width and the distance between source of contamination and hood. The results obtained from laboratory experiment for local exhaust ventilation systems were as follows ; 1. When slot widths were constant(equally changed) and the velocity was 6-10 m/s, the slot velocity from 1st slot to 4th slot gradually decreased. As the slot width-to-slot length ratio(WLR) decreased, the slot velocity of each stage increased. But if WLR value was less than 0.04, the slot velocity decreased. 2. When slot velocity exceeded 10 m/s with constant slot widths, the slot velocity of each stage was uniform. 3. When the slot velocity was uniform within 10 m/s and the first slot width was 14-20 mm, the slot width ratio between 1st slot and each of three other slots were 1, 1.25, 1.5 and 3.0, respectively. 4. The slot and plenum velocity were uniform when exhaust flow rate changed from 14 to $19m^3/min$ and there were no hood splitter vanes. 5. When the slot velocity at each stage was uniform, the control velocity at site 30 cm away from hood No.2 increased from 0.15-0.30 to 0.25-0.45 m/s and the control distance from 20 to 30 cm(about 1.5 times).

In this paper, we propose uniform slot width bow-tie-shaped meander slot antenna for 5 GHz application. The conventional bow-tie slot antenna has broadband characteristic, however, its size is large. Meanwhile, the meander slot antenna has small size, but it has quite narrow bandwidth. The proposed antenna geometry is a variation of the meander slot antenna incorporating bow-tie shape to realize miniaturized antenna having relatively large bandwidth. Simulated results show that with the same slot width and total slot length, the bandwidth of the proposed antenna is 3 times wider than that of meander slot antenna, and its resonant frequency is 3.01 GHz lower than that of the equal size(H x V) bow-tie slot antenna, and measured results show that the bandwidth of proposed antenna is 218 MHz(5.142 GHz ~ 5.360 GHz) which satisfy the required bandwidth from 5.15 GHz to 5.35 GHz.
Objective: The coefficients of friction (COFs) of aesthetic ceramic and stainless steel brackets used in conjunction with stainless steel archwires were investigated using a modified linear tribometer and special computer software, and the effects of the bracket slot size (0.018 inches [in] or 0.022 in) and materials (ceramic or metal) on the COF were determined. Methods: Four types of ceramic (one with a stainless steel slot) and one conventional stainless steel bracket were tested with two types of archwire sizes: a $0.017{\times}0.025$-in wire in the 0.018-in slots and a $0.019{\times}0.025$-in wire in the 0.022-in slot brackets. For pairwise comparisons between the 0.018-in and 0.022-in slot sizes in the same bracket, an independent sample t-test was used. One-way and two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey's post-hoc test at the 95% confidence level (${\alpha}$ = 0.05) were also used for statistical analyses. Results: There were significant differences between the 0.022-in and 0.018-in slot sizes for the same brand of bracket. ANOVA also showed that both slot size and bracket slot material had significant effects on COF values (p < 0.001). The ceramic bracket with a 0.022-in stainless steel slot showed the lowest mean COF (${\mu}$ = 0.18), followed by the conventional stainless steel bracket with a 0.022-in slot (${\mu}$ = 0.21). The monocrystalline alumina ceramic bracket with a 0.018-in slot had the highest COF (${\mu}$ = 0.85). Conclusions: Brackets with stainless steel slots exhibit lower COFs than ceramic slot brackets. All brackets show lower COFs as the slot size increases.

This paper proposes a modified tag collection algorithm that improves the drawback of the identified slot scan-based tag collection algorithm presented in a previous paper to improve the tag collection performance in active RFID systems. The previous identified slot scan-based tag collection algorithm is optimized in situations where all the tags store the fixed size of data, so it could not result in a good performance improvement with tags having the variable size of data. The improved tag collection algorithm proposed in this paper first collects the slot size information required for the data transmission from each tag via the identified slot scan phase, and then performs the tag collection phase using the information, which resolves the problem of the previous identified slot scan-based tag collection algorithm. The simulation results for performance evaluation showed that the proposed tag collection algorithm resulted in the almost same tag collection performance as the previous algorithm when all the tags have the same size of data and led a large improvement of the tag collection performance in ISO/IEC 18000-7 unlike the previous algorithm when each tag has a random size of data.

In EPCglobal Class-1 Gen-2 RFID system, a slot-count selection algorithm has been proposed to determine the slot-count size depending on the status of reply slot. In the slot-count selection algorithm of Gen-2, the slot-count value is increased or decreased by the weight C, which is identical and independent of the slot status. It has an advantage that the algorithm is simple, but it is difficult to maintain an optimal slot-count size. Therefore, in this paper, we propose an adaptive slot-count selection algorithm, which applies the parameter C differently based on the result of tag replies. Through simulations, it is demonstrated that the collision rate for the proposed scheme is about 42% and 65% lower than the schemes proposed by Wang and Gen-2. Therefore, the adaptive slot-count selection algorithm achieves faster tag identification time compared with the existing algorithms due to the low collision rate.
