Since sloshing effects influences ship motions including floater's natural frequencies. The significant factors changing ship motions are inner liquid impact loads and inertia forces and moments with respect to its filling ratio. This means that changing sloshing loads with sloshing effects reduction device (SERD) may control ship motions. In this regard, conceptual model for adjustable SERD was suggested by authors and then implanted into fully coupled program between vessel motion and sloshing. By changing clearances of baffles in the inner tank which were component of SERD, then the roll RAOs from each case were obtained. It is revealed that using well-controlled SERD can maintain natural frequencies of floater even inner tank has different filling ratio.

The oscillation of the fluid caused by external forces is call ed sloshing, which occurs in moving vehicles with contained liquid masses, such as trucks, railroad cars, aircraft, and liquid rocket. This sloshing effect could be a severe problem in vehicle stability and control. In this study, the optimization design technique for reduction of the sloshing using evolutionary method is suggested. Two evolutionary methods are employed, respectively the artificial neural network(ANN) and genetic algorithm. An artificial neural network is used for the analysis of sloshing and genetic algorithm is adopted as optimization algorithm. As a result of optimization design, the optimized size and location of the baffle is presented
The sloshing tank causes the instability of the fluid flows and the fluctuation of the impact pressure by the liquid on the tank. These flow characteristics inside the sloshing tank can generate the uncomfortable sloshing noise. In the present study, a numerical analysis for the reduction of a fuel tank sloshing noise was performed. To simulate the flow characteristics in a sloshing tank with partially filled liquid, a VOF method was used for interfacial flows by applying a momentum source term for the sloshing motion in a non-inertial reference frame. This numerical method was verified by comparing its results with the available experimental data. For the reduction of the sloshing noise, the horizontal and vertical baffles and porous media inside a sloshing tank were considered and numerically analyzed in the present study. For various installations of these baffles and porous media, the characteristics of the liquid behavior in the sloshing tank were obtained along with the impact pressure on the wall and the height of the free surface along the wall. These basic results can be used for the design of the actual vehicular fuel tank with the reduced sloshing noise.

Recently sloshing that fluid in fuel tank is undulating by the external force during motion of automobile, ship and aircraft is greatly affecting by damaging the inside of structure. It's most important to precisely analyze the behavior of fluid by computational fluid dynamics for minimizing the effect of sloshing for the loaded fuel. This study characterized volume of fluid and pressure according to the length and number of vertical baffle and horizontal baffle in fuel tank for Kia Frontier cargo and analyzed for reduction of sloshing during driving on corner and hill by using ADINA-CFD. As a result of analysis, the optimum length for sloshing reduction shows 0.19 m for vertical baffle and 0.08 m for horizontal baffle. And it shows that vertical baffle is better for the reduction effect of sloshing during driving on corners, on the other hand, horizontal baffle is effective and stable during driving on hills.

Storage tank filled with fluid has unique dynamic characteristics compared to general structures, due to the interaction between fluid and structure. The oscillation of the fluid surface caused by external forces is called sloshing, which occurs in moving vehicles with contained liquid masses, such as trucks, railroad cars, aircrafts, and liquid missles. In this study, the evaluation method for the reduction of sloshing, the optimized size and location of wing and diaphragm baffles are suggested based on the experimental results. The experimental device can simulate the translation motion. A rectangular tank and various baffles are fabricated to study on the sloshing characteristics. The forces measured using the load cell at tank wall and those are compared with each other through the Fourier transformation for various conditions. The study of the sloshing of the rectangular tank equipped with baffles is conducted under the same conditions with non-baffled rectangular tank experiment. From the experimental results, the sloshing reduction effect by the baffles is observed. In conclusion in case of diaphragm baffles, the optimized size ratio of the width of baffle to the water height is 0.44 and the installation location has no effect to the damping of sloshing. In case of wing baffles, the optimized size ratio of the width of baffle to the length of a rectangular tank is 0.1 and the optimized location ratio of the baffle to the water height is 0.9.

In this paper, numerical investigations for tank sloshing, based on commercial CFD package FLUENT, are performed to study effects of boundary layer grid, liquid viscosity and compressible air on sloshing pressure, wave height and rising time of impact pressure. Also, sloshing experiments for liquids of different viscosity are carried out to validate the numerical results. Through comparison of numerical and experimental results, a computational model including boundary layer grid can predict the sloshing pressure more accurately. Energy dissipation due to viscous friction leads to reduction of sloshing pressure and wave elevation. Sloshing pressure is also reduced because of cushion effect of compressible air. Due to high viscosity damping effect and compressible air effect, the rising time of impact pressure becomes longer. It is also found that liquid viscosity and compressible air influence distribution of dynamic pressure along the vertical tank wall.
The oscillation of the fluid caused by external forces is called sloshing, which occurs in moving vehicles with contained liquid masses, such as aircraft. cars and liquid rocket and so on. This sloshing effect could be a severe problem in vehicle stability and control. So, various baffles are used in order to reduce the sloshing. The Lagrangian, Eulerian and ALE numerical method is widely used on the analysis of sloshing presently. But, these numerical methods are needed so many CPU time. In this study, for the reduction of the sloshing analysis time, me multi.layer perceptron artificial neural network is introduced and analysis results are presented.
In the present study, a numerical analysis on the sloshing in a tank with the harmonic motion was investigated. A VOF method was used for two-phase flows inside the sloshing tank and a source term of the momentum equation was applied for the harmonic motion. This numerical method was verified by comparing its results with the available experimental data. The sloshing in a tank causes the instability of the fluid flows and the fluctuation of the impact pressure on the tank. By these phenomena of the tank sloshing, the sloshing problems such as the failure and the noise of system can be generated. For the reduction of these sloshing problems, the various baffles such as the horizontal/vertical plate baffles and the porous baffles inside the tank are installed. With the installations of these baffles, the characteristics of the liquid behavior in the sloshing tank, the impact pressure on the wall, the amplitude of the free surface near the wall and the sloshing noise were numerically analyzed.
The ability of baffles in increasing the sloshing damping is investigated in this study by theoretical, numerical, and experimental methods. Baffles Installed as separators in containers, can change the dynamic properties of sloshing. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of baffle placement. The main purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of placing baffles in order to provide appropriate frequencies and damping and to present a practical baffle arrangement in the design ofsloshing. In this regard, an experimental setup is designed to study the fluid sloshing behavior and damping properties in cylindrical tanks filled up to an arbitrary depth. A new combination of annular and sectorial baffles is employed to evaluate fluid sloshing in the tank. The results show that the proposed baffle arrangement has a desired effect on the damping and fluid sloshing frequencies and optimally satisfies the anticipated design requirements. In addition, the theoretical frequencies exceed empirical frequencies at the points far from baffles, while at the points close to baffles, the empirical ones are higher than theoretical ones. Also, at the depths near the bottom of container sloshing frequencies are not affected by sectorial baffles, although the theoretical curve predicts a reduction in the fundamental frequency of sloshing. Finally, the results of finite volume and finite element methods which compared with experimental data, indicated a good agreement between different approaches.
The interaction between a sloshing liquid damper (SLD) tank and a rectangular pontoon was investigated under the assumption of the linear potential theory. The eigenfunction expansion method was used not only for the sloshing problem in the SLD tank but also for analyzing the motion responses of a rectangular pontoon in waves. If the frictional damping due to the viscosity of the SLD tank was ignored, the effect of the SLD appeared to be an added mass in the coupled equation of motion. The installation of the SLD tank had a greater effect on the roll motion response than the sway and heave motion of the pontoon. One resonance peak for rolling motion showed up in the case of a frozen liquid in the SLD tank. However, if liquid motion in the SLD tank was allowed, two peaks appeared around the first natural frequency of the fluid in the SLD tank. In particular, the peak value located in the low-frequency region had a relatively large value, and the peak frequency located in the high-frequency region moved into the high-frequency region as the depth of the liquid in the tank increased.
