  • This study is about investigating students' recognition and expression on relationship of 'time, distance, speed' via teaching experiment. In this process, students showed not only a change in perception of the relationship of 'time, distance, speed' but also recognizing the average speed as a viewpoint of the slope of the line connecting the end points of the interval in the distance function as well as another way of perceiving average speed of a height of a rectangle. In this process, the study shows the scene of expanding the relation of 'distance = time ${\times}$ speed' to 'distance = time ${\times}$ average speed', and also the student who makes the continuous reasoning shows the possibility of constructing a new function that can explain the change of the primitive function by allocating the average rate of change to the interval. Although this study was conducted with a limited number of students, this study suggests some implications through the observation of relationship of 'time, distance, speed' the students'. We hope that these results will be the starting point for various studies for constructing the integral learning model in the future.

  • Optical flow estimation based on multi constraint approaches is frequently used for recognition of moving objects. However, the use have been confined because of OF estimation time as well as error problem. This paper shows a new method form effectively extracting movement information using the multi-constraint base approaches with sobel edge detection. The moving objects anr extraced in the input image sequence using edge detection and segmentation. Edge detection and difference of the two input image sequence gives us the moving objects in the images. The process of thresholding removes the moving objects detected due to noise. After thresholding the real moving objects, we applied the Combinatorial Hough Transform (CHT) and voting accumulation to find the optimal constraint lines for optical flow estimation. The moving objects found in the two consecutive images by using edge detection and segmentation greatly reduces the time for comutation of CHT. The voting based CHT avoids the errors associated with least squares methods. Calculation of a large number of points along the constraint line is also avoided by using the transformed slope-intercept parameter domain. The simulation results show that the proposed method is very effective for extracting optical flow vectors and hence recognizing moving objects in the images.

  • Fundamental frequency/pitch period are major characteristics of speech signals. They are used in many speech applications like speech coding, speech recognition, speaker identification, and so on. In this paper, some of inflection points are used to estimate the pitch which is the inverse of the fundamental frequency. The inflection points are defined as points where local maxima, local minima or the slope changes occur. The speech signal is preprocessed to remove unnecessary inflection points due to the high frequency components using a low pass filter. Only the inflection points from local maxima are used to get the pitch period. While the existing pitch estimation methods process speech signals in blockwise, the proposed method detects the inflection points in sample and produces the pitch period/fundamental frequency estimates along the time. Computer simulation shows the usefulness of the proposed method as a fundamental frequency estimator.

  • Responses of real-time control parameters, such as ORP, DO and pH, to the conditions of biological animal wastewater treatment process were examined to evaluate the stability of real-time control using each parameter. Also an optimum index for supplemental carbon source addition based on NOx-N level was determined under a consideration of denitrification rate by endogenous respiration of microorganism and residual organic matter in liquor. Experiment was performed with lab-scale sequencing batch reactor(SBR) and working volume of the process was 45L. The distinctive nitrogen break point(NBP) on ORP-and DO-time profiles, which mean the termination of nitrification, started disappearing with the maintenance of low NH4-N loading rate. Also the NBP on ORP-and DO-time profiles was no longer observed when high NOx-N was loaded into the reactor, and the sensitivity of ORP became dull with the increase of NOx-N level. However, the distinctive NBP was constantly occurred on pH(mV)-time profile, maintaining unique profile patterns. This stable occurrence of NBP on pH(mV)-time profile was lasted even at very high NOx-N:NH4-N ratio(over 80:1) in reactor, and the specific point could be easily detected by tracking moving slope change(MSC) of the curve. Revelation of NBP on pH(mV)-time profile and recognition of the realtime control point using MSC were stable at a condition of over 300mg/L NOx-N level in reactor. The occurrence of distinctive NBP was persistent on pH(mV)-time profile even at a level of 10,000mg/L STOC(soluble total organic carbon) and the recognition of NBP was feasible by tracing MSC, but that point on ORP and DO-time profiles began to disappear with the increase of STOC level in reactor. The denitrfication rate by endogenous respiration and residual organic matter was about 0.4mg/L.hr., and it was found that 0.83 would be accepted as an index for supplemental carbon source addition when 0.1 of safety factor was applied.

  • Amphibians are a taxonomic group that ecologically connects terrestrial ecosystems and aquatic ecosystems. They play a very important role in the food chain of the ecosystem. It is known that there are about 5,948 species distributed all over the world, but after the Industrial Revolution, due to industrialization and urbanization, there has been a decrease in species and populations. In particular, it is becoming a factor in exacerbating habitat fragmentation or fragmentation due to artificial canals. In orderto improve the survivalrate of wild animals in artificial canals, escape facilities are installed to reduce it. This study analyzed the slope, height of the escape facility, escape rate, and travel distance in the operating facility for Bombina orientalis, which mainly inhabits near forests. The slope of the escape facility showed a relatively similar escape success rate regardless of height at 50° and 60°, while at 70°, it showed a relatively high escape success rate at only 40cm in height. The success rate of escape from the waterway escape facility in operation was 14.71%, showing a very low utilization rate, and the recognition rate of the artificial canal escape facility was found to be very low as it moved along the side wall of the artificial canal. Therefore, in the case of a waterway escape facility for Bombina orientalis, it is possible to construct it at an angle of 60°, and if the side walls of the artificial canals are built within 60°, Bombina orientalis can move freely in both directions, overcoming the low utilization rate of existing waterway escape facilities. It is expected to minimize the impact of movement and death of artificial canals. In addition, if the spacing between escape facilities is narrowed from the installation standard of 30m and ramps are constructed in both directions upstream and downstream, the escape success rate of amphibians, reptiles, and small mammals otherthan lady frogs is expected to improve.

  • Recently, DL (Deep Learning) has been rapidly applied in various fields. In particular, classification and object recognition from images are major tasks in computer vision. Most of the DL utilizing imagery is primarily based on the CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) and improving performance of the DL model is main issue. While most CNNs are involve with images for training data, this paper aims to classify and recognize objects using DSM (Digital Surface Model), and slope and aspect information derived from the DSM instead of images. The DSM data sets used in the experiment were established by DGPF (German Society for Photogrammetry, Remote Sensing and Geoinformatics) and provided by ISPRS (International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing). The CNN-based SegNet model, that is evaluated as having excellent efficiency and performance, was used to train the data sets. In addition, this paper proposed a scheme for training data generation efficiently from the limited number of data. The results demonstrated DSM and derived data could be feasible for semantic classification with desirable accuracy using DL.

  • The objectives of this study are to identify flood disasters resulted from heavy rainstorm including earth and stone-debris avalanches and also to develope the scientific data to be needed for establishing the landslide-related disaster prevention countermeasures. For this study, 5 Gun (district) regions including Booyeo, Seochun, Gongju, Boryung, and Chungyang in Chungchongnam-do of the central part of Korea, in which severe landslide damages have been triggered during 3 days from July 21 to July 23, 1987, were investigated. Mostly, landslides having death of human lives triggered from 6 a.m, to 8 a,m. on July 22, and the principal factor was proved to be the continuous heavy rain ; the continuous rainfall of internal region for 3 days measured about 300-673 mm. The structural measures for slope failure prevention countermeasures at the hollow part of upper hillslope should be required. Natural drainage network on slopes should not be disturbed in case of land use alteration, such as a chestnut planting work on hillslopes behind the houses particularly. There are so many problems in recognition of landslide disaster prevention countermeasures including evacuation exercises. More actual education of countermeasures for control of flood and landslide should be put to practice through "civil defense education" and "inhabitants' meeting." In this context, existing Erosion Control Stations of 13 regions established in each Province should not be reduced. The designation criterion and surveying processes of "Landslide Prone Site" published by Forest Administration should also be improved scientifically.

  • It is important to create a decent pedestrian space in order to realize a public space that can ultimately improve the quality of life based on guaranteeing people's right to move while also enhancing urban activity. The goal of this study is to develop a pedestrian path evaluation system in order to lay the foundation for data construction leading to the creation of such elegant walking space. First, a basic system was established in keeping with factors and the space, and this system was used as the basic framework of the study. The trends identified in the literature can be divided into eight categories, denoted here as: Walking safety policy, Walking focused plan, Recognition transition, Transportaion system, Activity-linked walking, Facility utilization walking, Nature and history linked walking and Content convergence walking. The macro- and micro-indices and factors mentioned in related studies were synthesized and classified, and the basis for universality and differentiation was established by integrating them. Next, according to the basic composition of the walking system, Walking potential and slope safety in the Safety category, Basic walking connectivity and Traffic linkage in the Efficiency category, Walking arrangement and Rest convenience in the Health category, and Resource connectivity and Activity abundance in the Comfortability category macro evaluation system of the eight categories were established and a corresponding measurement method was developed.

  • In most cases, optical images have been used as training data of DL (Deep Learning) models for object detection, recognition, identification, classification, semantic segmentation, and instance segmentation. However, properties of 3D objects in the real-world could not be fully explored with 2D images. One of the major sources of the 3D geospatial information is DSM (Digital Surface Model). In this matter, characteristic information derived from DSM would be effective to analyze 3D terrain features. Especially, man-made objects such as buildings having geometrically unique shape could be described by geometric elements that are obtained from 3D geospatial data. The background and motivation of this paper were drawn from concept of the intrinsic image that is involved in high-level visual information processing. This paper aims to extract buildings after classifying terrain features by training DL model with DSM-derived information including slope, aspect, and SRI (Shaded Relief Image). The experiments were carried out using DSM and label dataset provided by ISPRS (International Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing) for CNN-based SegNet model. In particular, experiments focus on combining multi-source information to improve training performance and synergistic effect of the DL model. The results demonstrate that buildings were effectively classified and extracted by the proposed approach.

  • The characteristics of the six rock cleavages(R1~H2) in Jurassic Hapcheon granite were analyzed using the distribution of ① microcrack lengths(N=230), ② microcrack spacings(N=150) and ③ Brazilian tensile strengths(N=30). The 18 cumulative graphs for these three factors measured in the directions parallel to the six rock cleavages were mutually contrasted. The main results of the analysis are summarized as follows. First, the frequency ratio(%) of Brazilian tensile strength values(kg/㎠) divided into nine class intervals increases in the order of 60~70(3.3) < 140~150(6.7) < 100~110·110~120(10.0) < 90~100(13.3) < 80~90(16.7) < 120~130·130~140(20.0). The distribution curve of strength according to the frequency of each class interval shows a bimodal distribution. Second, the graphs for the length, spacing and tensile strength were arranged in the order of H2 < H1 < G2 < G1 < R2 < R1. Exponent difference(λS-λL, Δλ) between the two graphs for the spacing and length increases in the order of H2(-1.59) < H1(-0.02) < G2(0.25) < G1(0.63) < R2(1.59) < R1(1.96)(2 < 1). From the related chart, the six graphs for the tensile strength move gradually to the left direction with the increase of the above exponent difference. The negative slope(a) of the graphs for the tensile strength, suggesting a degree of uniformity of the texture, increases in the order of H((H1+H2)/2, 0.116) < G((G1+G2)/2, 0.125) < R((R1+R2)/2, 0.191). Third, the order of arrangement between the two graphs for the two directions that make up each rock cleavage(R1·R2(R), G1·G2(G), H1·H2(H)) were compared. The order of arrangement of the two graphs for the length and spacing is reverse order with each other. The two graphs for the spacing and tensile strength is mutually consistent in the order of arrangement. The exponent differences(ΔλL and ΔλS) for the length and spacing increase in the order of rift(R, -0.08) < grain(G, 0.14) < hardway(H, 0.75) and hardway(H, 0.16) < grain(G, 0.23) < rift(R, 0.45), respectively. Fourth, the general chart for the six graphs showing the distribution characteristics of the microcrack lengths, microcrack spacings and Brazilian tensile strengths were made. According to the range of length, the six graphs show orders of G2 < H2 < H1 < R2 < G1 < R1(< 7 mm) and G2 < H1 < H2 < R2 < G1 < R1(≦2.38 mm). The six graphs for the spacing intersect each other by forming a bottleneck near the point corresponding to the cumulative frequency of 12 and the spacing of 0.53 mm. Fifth, the six values of each parameter representing the six rock cleavages were arranged in the order of increasing and decreasing. Among the 8 parameters related to the length, the total length(Lt) and the graph(≦2.38 mm) are mutually congruent in order of arrangement. Among the 7 parameters related to the spacing, the frequency of spacing(N), the mean spacing(Sm) and the graph (≦5 mm) are mutually consistent in order of arrangement. In terms of order of arrangement, the values of the above three parameters for the spacing are consistent with the maximum tensile strengths belonging to group E. As shown in Table 8, the order of arrangement of these parameter values is useful for prior recognition of the six rock cleavages and the three quarrying planes.
