  • Since slipping has been identified as a major hazard, it is important to understand the mechanism of a slip. Many researches, based on biomechanical studies, had been attempted to do that. Thowever, the correlation between the mechanism of a slip and psychophysical behaviors of people had rarely been verified. For example, the existence of small slips in a forward direction, which do not normally perceived by human subjects, has been established by several experimenters. However, the term "microslips are not perceived by the walkers[4]." has not been examined precisely by any experiments. The objective of this study is, using a Signal Detection Theory (SDT), to define a microslip and slip more quqntitatively with the biomechanical measurement of slip distance. The results showed that, the slip distance around the 3 centimeters, there was a obvious change in the accident detectability of the subject. The conclusion is that it is possible to identify the boundary of a microslip and slip around the 3 centermeters of slip distance.

  • In recent years, energy prices have soared, which of course have increased costs for railway operators. Simultaneously, the energy market has considerably changed that in most developed countries, it is deregulated, giving railway operators an opportunity to define new ways of using energy. Efficient operation of the railway system is considered as an essential way to energy saving while an efficient management of power level helps to lower the reference subscribed power, giving access to better energy rates. It is studied on the relation between time and force for the energy efficient driving of train in railway when the train is braking according to several slips.

  • An Amplitude Proportional Friction Damper (APFD) is considered in order to improve the characteristics of Coulomb friction damper. The frictional force is proportional to the amplitude in APFD system and the system is non-linear as is Coulomb damper system. A free vibration analysis on the 1-DOF system has made to demonstrate the characteristics of the APFD system. The results show that APFD system has similar damping characteristics to the viscous damper. Also, the solution for the response of a base-excited system with APFD is developed through the application of a Fourier series to represent the frictional force of APFD. It is assumed that no stick-slips occur during any portion of the steady-state oscillation.

  • This study summarizes the results of tests on 18 two-slab push out specimens. The main purpose of tile survey was to evaluate the capacity and behavior of stud shear connectors embedded in high strength normal concrete (F$\sub$c/=260~390kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$). The normal concrete was made with crushed stones and natural sand near the Han River. Two different diameters (ø19mm, ø16 mm) of stud shear connectors were used for push out specimens. The following conclusions were drawn from this study. 1) The shear strength of stud connectors embedded in high strength concrete (F$\sub$c/=260~390kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$) was influenced by tensile stress of the stud shear connectors. The following empirical function described the test results: q$\sub$u/=0.5A$\sub$s/√F$\sub$c/E$\sub$c/$\leq$0.7A$\sub$u/F$\sub$u/ 2) The maximum load in this study was reached at slips varying from 2.5~6mm.

  • Clinical laboratory order communication system was developed to run fast and effective laboratory tests at the Chungbuk National University Hospital. The present system incorporated with the main Hospital Management Information System accepts :aboratory orders, classifies them based on the predefined logical system, and outputs various practical informations for the user. These assist sample taking, sample management, and work plan organization. A special care was taken to the sample management by introducing the bar code system. The system was written in the INFOS hierarchical database and COBOL, and is currently in the practical use for both in - and out-ward patients. The present system enabled fast and effective data communication as well as reducing the time and man power indispensable when the manual slips are used for order communication.

  • In this Study, as the structure of IT module for smart phone display becomes thin to catch up with slim product trend, the reliability of display module is on the rise as a issue for product design. Especially, almost part of cellular phone should undergo thermal dissipation test. thus many manufacturers have considered design guide line using CAE and simulation for more effective usage of limited resources on the market. This test simulates the case when cellular phone slips through user's fingers while he is talking on the phone. This paper studies a thermal simulation of display module in smart phone. This design for reliability improvements are suggested on the basis of the results of FVM Analysis and display of IT module and smart phone design.

  • The upshoot and downshoot in Duane's retraction syndrome is believed to be related to a leash effect from the lateral rectus muscle. When the eye is rotated into the adducted position, the lateral rectus muscle slips over the globe, producing the up-and downshoot on adduction. The splitting of the ends of the lateral rectus into a Y configuration prevents the rotation of the globe up or down by stabilizing the muscle's position on the eye. Three patients with Duane's retraction syndrome demonstrated abnormal vertical movement on adduction and underwent a Y-splitting on the lateral rectus. In all patients, marked decrease in the up-and downshoot is noted after surgery.

  • An analytical method based on the nonlinear layered finite element method is used to simulate the load-deflection behavior of strengthened beam. Beams considered in this study are the ones strengthened either with external steel plate or Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) sheets bonded to the overlay soffit or with reinforcing rebars in the overlay. The theoretically obtained load-deflections and strains of the strengthened beam are compared to the corresponding experimental values. Comparing the approximate measures on the cumulative slips, efficiencies of the repairing techniques are evaluated. Parametric studies are, then, peformed using the developed model to investigate the effects of design variables on the overal flexural behavior of the strengthened beam. Simply supported beams under monotonically increasing symmetrical loads are considered exclusively.

  • Characteristics of Ham Pyong clay and clay-organic complexes were investigated by means of geological exploration, chemical analysis, X-ray diffraction, differential thermal analysis, electron microscopy, thermal mechanical analysis, cation exchange capacity and viscosity measurement. The results are as follows; 1) This caly is a transported clay which has black and white colors, and the amounts of deposit are estimated about 1, 600, 000M/T. 2) The major mineral phases identified by X-ray diffraction are kaolinite, sericite and halloysite and the minor phases are quartz and feldspar, these mineral phases can be seperated very easily by the elutriation method. 3) It was supposed that the black colored clay involved a certain clay-organic complexs by the mechanism of intercalation as well as surface absorption. 4) The clay-organic complexes in clay seemed to improve dispersity, to increase the fluidity of clay-water slips, to decrease the firing shrinkage and to promote the thermo-chemical reaction at temperature range up to 50$0^{\circ}C$, but not to effect on the resulted firing color.
