The fatigue test under the constant amplitude repeated loading is performed to investigate the fatigue behavior of the Torque Shear type high tension bolted joint which is able to manage the axial force uniformly. From the test results, it's known that the reduction of the axial force of T/S bolt followed by the elasped time is similar to that of the high tension bolts. The difference of relaxation is not occurred according to the position of bolts, the size of the introduced axial force but the effect of the variation of temperature is large. In the reduction of the axial force followed by the cumulation of the fatigue load, the outer bolt is larger than the inner bolt. This result depends on the difference in the distribution of the non-slip zone. The variation of the surface roughness affects the slip and the reduction of the anal force.
The new rotary friction damper was developed using several two-nodal rotary frictional components with different clamping forces. Because of these components, the rotary friction damper can be activated by building movements due to lateral forces such as a wind and earthquake. In this paper, various dependency tests such as displacement amplitude, forcing frequency and long term cyclic loading were carried out to evaluate on the structural performance and the multi-slip mechanism of the new damper. Test results show that the multi-slip mechanism is verified and friction coefficients are dependent on displacement amplitute and forcing frequency except long term cyclic loading.
This paper reviews the dynamic load phenomenon referred to as 'silo quaking', caused shock vibration and loud noise, during gravity discharge in coal silos. Quaking in tall silo is examined using experimental data obtained from a Coal Power Plant and several experimental and numerical investigations available in the published literature. In the experiment, the acceleration was measured at various height on the silo column and floor and by doing so, not only could the variation of the amplitude of the quaking be observed, but also the propagation of waves could clearly be seen. Through an overview of recent research on this subject, it is shown that the current silo quaking is produced by slip-stick friction between the internal wall of silo and the granular material, i.e. coal.

Fretting of fuel rod cladding material, Zircaloy-4 tube, in PWR nuclear power plants must be reduced and avoided. Nowadays the introduction of surface treatments or coatings is expected to be an ideal solution to fretting damage since fretting is closely related to wear. corrosion and fatigue. Therefore. in this study the fretting wear experiment was performed using TiAlN coated Zircaloy-4 tube as the fuel rod cladding and uncoated Zircaloy-4 as on of grids, especially concentrating on the sliding component. Fretting wear resistance of TiAlN coated Zircaloy-4 tubes was improved compared with that of TiN coated tubes and uncoated tubes and fretting wear mechanisms were brittle fracture and plastic flow at lower slip amplitude but severe oxidation and spallation of oxidative layer at higher ship amplitude.
Inconel 690 for nuclear steam generator tube has more chromium than the conventionally used Inconel 600 in order to increase the corrosion resistance. TD evaluate the tribological characteristics under fretting condition the fretting tests as well as sliding tests were carried out in elevated temperature water environment. Fretting tests of the cross-cylinder type were done under various vibrating amplitudes and applied normal loads in order to measure the friction forces and wear volumes. Also, the conventional sliding tests of pin-en-disk type were carried out to compare the test results. In fretting, the friction was very sensitive to the load and the amplitude. The friction coefficient decreased with increasing load and decreasing amplitude. Also, the wear of Inconel 690 can be predictable using the work rate model. Depending on normal loads and vibrating amplitudes, distinctively different wear mechanisms and of ten drastically different wear rates can occur. It was fecund that the fretting wear coefficients in water were increased as increasing the temperature of water.

This paper proposes the design and implementation of a direct torque controlled induction motor drive system. The method is based on control of decoupling between amplitude and angle of reference stator flux for determining reference stator voltage vector in generating PWM output voltage for induction motors. The objective is to reduce electromagnetic torque ripple and stator flux droop which result in a decrease in current distortion in steady state condition. In addition, the proposed technique provides simplicity of a control system. The direct torque control is based on the relationship between instantaneous slip angular frequency and rotor angular frequency in adjustment of the reference stator flux angle. The amplitude of the reference stator flux is always kept constant at rated value. Experimental results are illustrated in this paper confirming the capability of the proposed system in regards to such issues as torque and stator flux response, stator phase current distortion both in dynamic and steady state with load variation, and low speed operation.
In the previous paper (Hyun et al.,2002), we have investigated the shape of storage modulus (G') and loss modulus (G") of complex fluids under large amplitude oscillatory shear (LAOS) flow. As the strain amplitude increases, owever, the stress curve becomes distorted and some important information may be smothered during data processing. Thus we need to investigate the stress data more precisely and systematically. In this work, we have obtained the stress data using high performance ADC (analog digital converting) card, and investigated the nonlinear response of complex fluids, 4wt% xanthan gum (XG), 2 wt% PVA/ 1 wt% Borax, and 1 wt% hyaluronic acid (HA) solutions, using Fourier transformation (FT) rheology. Comparing the strain signals in time domain with FT parameters in frequency domain, we could illustrate the sensitivity and importance of FT rheology. Diverse and unique stress patterns were observed depending on the material system as well as flow environment. It was found that they are not the outcome of experimental deficiency like wall slip but characteristics of the material system. When nonlinear response of complex fluids is analyzed, the intensity and phase angle of higher harmonic contributions should be considered together, and the shape of the stress signal was found to be strongly dependent upon phase angle.ngle.
The slip-weakening model developed by Ohnaka and Yamashita is extended over the breakdown zone by equating the scaling relationships for the breakdown zone and the whole rupture area. For the extension, the study uses the relationship between rupture velocity and radiation efficiency, which was derived in the theory of linear elastic fracture mechanics, and the definition of fmax given in the specific barrier model proposed by Papageorgiou and Aki. The results clearly show that the extended scaling relationship is governed by the ratio of rupture velocity to S wave velocity, and the velocity ratio can be determined by the ratio of characteristic frequencies of a Fourier amplitude spectrum, which are corner frequency, fc, and source-controlled cut-off frequency, fmax, or vice versa. The derived relationship is tested by using the characteristic frequencies extracted from previous studies of more than 130 shallow crustal events (focal depth less than 25 km, MW 3.0~7.5) that occurred in Japan. Under the assumption of a dynamic similarity, the rupture velocity estimated from fmax/fc and the modified integral timescale give quite similar scale-dependence of the rupture area to that given by Kanamori and Anderson. Also, the results for large earthquakes show good agreement to the values from a kinematic inversion in previous studies. The test results also indicate the unavailability of the spectral self-similarity proposed by Aki because of the scale-dependent rupture velocity and the rupture velocity-dependent fmax/fc; however, the results do support the local similarity asserted by Ohnaka. It is also remarkable that the relationship between the rupture velocity and fmax/fc is quite similar to Kolmogorov's hypothesis on a similarity in the theory of isotropic turbulence.
The sliding wear behaviors of Zircaloy-4 nuclear fuel rod were investigated using two support springs with convex and concave shapes in room temperature air and water. The main focus is to compare the wear behavior of various test variables such as slip amplitude, environment, contact contours with different spring shape and a number of cycles. The results indicated that wear volume and maximum wear depth increased with slip amplitude in both air and water, but their trends tended to change according to the spring shapes and test environments. In air condition, the wear volume was controlled by wear debris behavior generated on worn surface. As a result, final wear volume and maximum wear depth decreased if a ratio of protruded wear volume to worn area $(D_p)$ would be saturated to specific value. This is because wear particle layer could accommodate large strain by accumulating and transforming wear particle layer. However, in water condition, metal-to metal contact was more dominant and wear volume was greatly affected by changed mechanical behavior between contact surfaces since wear debris should be generated after repeated plastic deformation and fracture. After wear test, worn surfaces were examined using optical microscope and SEM and details of wear mechanism were discussed using a ratio of wear volume to worn area $(D_e)$ at each test condition.
